No, Norton would be your biggest mistake ever. If you want to try something else, It's NOD32 or Kaspersky that you should go to. Internet Explorer has a lot of security holes that are still waiting to be plugged. Use Firefox instead of Internet explorer and you'll be like me, Opera as main browser, and Firefox as second. Firefox has a lot less security holes (or so I read) and is much faster than both Internet Explorer and Opera.

I can already say that Kaspersky does. I wouldn't even try Norton though, even if they have a 30 days trial, all it's gonna do is freeze the machine, if it's already slow, and you add something taking so much juice.

That's biased. Says that Norton has better scores than what most of antiviruses and that it's very fast. I wouldn't trust a site like that.

AVG gives a ton of false positives. It'd call it's own mother a virus. Its free. Yes, but AVG can find viruses where other virus scanners fail. That's why it's useful to have AVG in combination with others. Be wary of software conflicts. There's also viruses like AntivirusXP 2008 that AVG didn't detect on one of my friend's computer :roll:.

I'm running low on money, and it's a lot cheaper to give the files and DVDs to my friend then to buy a $40 burner that I'll use like 10 times in my life :lol: But thanks for the suggestion! You know not how much you would really use a DVD burner, until such time as you really have one of your own. Keep saving $$$ for later, so that you can eventually get one. I do have a small fear of heights as well. It will not stop me from going in roller coasters though, since I like having more emotion on them than my brothers, and the other thing I don't like though is I will stop going in rollercoasters before my brothers as well :wall:

Problem is solved, installing the SP3 from the CD did it, I'm now able to download and install correctly the updates. Btw I'm posting this from the desktop : thank you guys for helping me :).

Well, I won't add much, but if something does go wrong, you can still talk on the phone with your ISP, that's how I set my highspeed internet connection (their CD didn't work lol). Now that I know how, and that it's amazingly easy, I don't need them anymore.

Nop, I put the time at the exact same time it is on the laptop, and it didn't help. Although I see something weird, my computer says it's Media Center Edition 2002, but the updates are for Media Center Edition 2005, which I used to see in my computer properties... @ Devnull, I will be doing this when I get a CD -_- lol. I have a constant connection to it, I connect using a modem that is a router at the same time. Oh, and the updates have no problems downloading, it's the install that fails.

To those talking about bumping a few year old threads, I say if the threads are interesting, why not contribute to them and let them being bumped? Also, I have never called 911. I went close to call them when I had my car accident though. I figured it'd cost less to not put the repairs on insurance.
