  1. I feel like you owe me compensation now as you guarantee proved bogus. Never had malware issues, so never bothered with malwarebytes. Decided to run scans on all my systems just out of curiosity. 6 month old laptop - nothing found. 1 year old always on automated media box - nothing found 6-ish year old desktop pc that was cloned from a hard drive ~10 years old and upgraded overtime - nothing found. Don't get me wrong, its a great little program and all, but good internet practice and a decent AV is enough to avoid malware 99.9% of the time. Really malwarebytes should not be finding anything unless you have done something to garner a malware issue - visited an iffy site or grabbed a dodgy extension etc. Same applies to your AV of choice you should not expect it to find anything because it is a safety net for if you do something wrong, not a battering ram to allow you to charge into dodgy content and let it soak up damage. That's not the way Dat_Booty meant that but ok. Antivirus and Malwarebytes don't find anything on my computers either but that's because I have good internet practice and usually tell people to stick to their usual websites which are usually safe. It's just that if there are some stuff that got on the computer, the antivirus is usually not enough to catch it all, and that's where Malwarebytes gets into play and catches what the antivirus missed.

Ubuntu is a pretty unstable Linux Distro, you'd be better off getting Mint without cinamon (even if it's based on Ubuntu it's much more stable) or something like Fedora or any other popular distro. Mageia is extremely similar to Windows for a Linux distro. This weekend I'm planning on rebuilding one of my old computers (used parts of it on my brand new computer but bought old parts on kijiji for the purpose of rebuilding the old one), and then making it an ESXi server and moving my current Win Server 2012 to it from the physical old almost dead computer I have it on. Considering it's my DHCP/DNS/Domain server here at home, it's time I move from the old core 2 duo infrastructure to the old i3 first gen I had before building this new i5 last gen computer I'm currently using. Replaced that i3 last month and now I have something more powerful than a core 2 duo for the server.
  3. That's one the first possibilities that were mentionned in this thread or a previous one, iirc.
  4. A laptop naturally runs a bit hotter than a desktop, and Intel Burn Test actually overworks the CPU, so I say temperatures are ok until the high 60s/low 70s on the Intel Burn Test.
  5. Yes but it seems the ads just started after the extention was installed. I would remove the extention, set chrome to its defaults and run Malwarebytes and AdwCleaner.

You have an awesome job that they let you do that.
  7. Agreed on what Arceus posted. Please let us know if it didn't work. Steam should be uninstallable from the control panel but if it's not there are other ways to do it. If you really don't want steam to have internet access you could always block the steam website in the host files (just never forget you did that since you'd lose access to the steam website as well).
  8. Good thing to spread awareness, and I thought it had been like that for very long. I've been getting rs and wow phishing emails for years, although I don't even have a wow account.
  9. Tbh I think in most cases its not about profits as much as it is about quality. Where battery tech is at right now a decent laptop battery should easily out live most other system parts (like hdd and cpu) or at least long enough that the system becomes obsolete and ought to be replaced anyway. Compared to a few years ago where the batteries would lose capacity and die quite quickly. Plus by having a hardwired battery it allows for more efficient delivery of power to the system making 1 charge last longer and eliminates a removable connection point that can easily be damaged via removing the battery or things shifting around, in transit or whatever. It's the same reason most high-usage tech these days has done away with removable battery packs, about the only ones left that I can think of are Wiimotes. The only decent brand I know of where the non-removable battery appears to be profiteering because the battery dies like something for the early 00s is apple. Don't the batteries still last 3 to 4 years? Then again my laptop batteries have lasted longer than that so I guess you're right. One of my laptops I had for 7 years now and the battery still charges, although it doesn't keep the charge while the other is current gen and the battery has yet to go down in capacity.

Hockey isn't stupid, it's fun to watch. Then again to each his own, I don't watch Baseball because I find it very boring.
  11. Hmm pretty hard to say what the cause would be. If it's a contact that's become faulty the best bet is probably to bring it in for repairs so they can find it, but appart from that, if it's not overheating it probably does have something to do with power. Very hard to say with what we have so far.. As far as my laptop, I have one with the latest generation intel i5 and I have a removable battery. I hope they don't bring that way of making profits to the americas (or Canada if it's already in the US).
  12. I don't know where you live but here laptops have removable batteries even brand new, except for Apple laptops.
  13. Considering my friend's $3000 macbook pro was equivalent to my $1200 ROG laptop, I'm against getting an apple computer. And seeing my old post, I'm even further from recommending Dell than I was when I posted that. We have all Dells at work and we're probably switching to HP because they're much more optimized for Autodesk applications. We'll probably put much less of them on warranty too! Out of a 2000 computer park we put several of them on warranty repairs every week.

Man, this is something I wouldn't want :\ Good luck to you.
  15. If it still turns on, it's not fried. If it overheat this quick, I'd have it checked, dust is usually the cause of overheating.
  16. I think after 4 years they were able to fix their problem.

Tif is probably the forum I've been the longest on. And to think we all came here because of one specific game!
  18. Best option would be to get a tech savvy friend to replace the fan for you. Much less expensive except if your Future Shop warranty is still valid. Future shop, a Canadian company, was bought by BestBuy in 2001 if I'm not mistaken, but they closed down all Canadian Future Shops last weekend or the one before iirc, some to be rebranded BB and others to be definitely closed down. It's a shame because Best Buy always had higher prices, which is why I never bought anything at Best Buy.

Lol your snow banks aren't high compared to some parts of NB and PEI (Canada) Especially PEI they have like 20' snowbanks. Could've tried seeing some yesterday night and tonight, although I think they receded and weren't as far south tonight. According to the NOAA they were seen as far south as Northern California. The magnetic storm knocked out the power a few short times around here.

Well, I learned to not believe guys like Rotten Tomatoes and such, I prefer making my own idea of the movies. I find that often times they will give bad reviews for movies but they will still be good movies.

Hell I live in Winnipeg and our car still has all seasons on it. It's not that hard to just drive carefully. Completely agree with you, but in more and more provinces it's mandatory to have winter tires. I know some friends that couldn't afford another set of tires right away and they had to store their car for the winter, until they can buy winter tires during next summer. Anyway pretty sure right now would be the best time to buy them, lower pricefs because they're looking to sell them to make more space for 4seasons inventory.

Well depending on where you'll be in Canada next winter, you can be prepared to see some temperatures ranging from 10 to -35 (Celsius of course). In the north it's even colder but I guess you'll probably somewhere somewhat close to the border.
  23. I'm pretty sure you tried a power cycle of your router/modem? Always the first thing everyone does anyway. Appart from that, almost seems like a dns problem if they can connect to the internet but not use it. I'd check that setting in the router.
  24. They used to be awesome and good computers but in recent years their quality has diminished so much that I don't recommend Dell.
  25. LOL Dell durable... This week I put 4 Dell computers on warranty. 2 Latitude Laptops, 1 Precision laptop, and a Precision Desktop. Those are professional grade which usually are more durable and have more quality than consumer models.
