  1. I do see exactly where you are coming from, and I completely understand how this split community isn't really a good thing, especially the hate created between the 'fanboy' groups like you mentioned. But I'm still glad 07 happened, I wouldn't be back if it didn't. Also I nearly voted a month ago which means I need to renew my membership, and I can tell you I'm likely to go for the 3 or 6 month option. I totally intend to keep playing (though I do really need to manage my time so the game doesn't rule my life). Also, even though I'm not a fan of the current direction of some things in RS, I am actually tempted to play a bit... I'm thinking some PvM.
  2. Doesn't that message only appear a few times? If it didn't, I'd much rather jump over a ditch then quit a popup every time I go in the wilderness. I don't want Jagex wasting their time and effort on removing things like this. Personally I don't care if the ditch is there or not, but I don't see how it hinders on anyone by being there. I've never been lured and I really don't understand how it happens (I really don't understand people's stupidity), but since luring seems to be pretty apparent, it's probably for the best anyway. And as Omali said, it's also annoying when you waste your time with 'wannbe lurers'.
  3. And I just want to add, obviously 07 doesn't and won't have the same community as it did back in 2007, but it has already formed its own unique community that so far feels great :)
  4. There is no problem with the ditch at all unless you want to lure. Seriously get over it. (pun half intended).
  5. Ah fair enough, just a quick guess. But yeah those quests!
  6. Yeah I hate it, but I can completely understand that it really is too hard to enforce a rule like that. And from what Artemis was saying, it also sucks because people who manage to be completely successful just in OSRS will look like they eoc trade. All we can really do is discourage it and try to ignore it. I wish Jagex didn't openly say it was acceptable, in the Q&A they should have been a bit more vague and highly discouraged it. While I'm sure it did happen in the past with other games, it didn't happen anywhere near the scale of this.
  7. When I got my white beret I got heaps of offers for eoc cash :/ (one for 30m) It is having a negative effect on the cool idea of the fresh start, but really there's not much anyone can do about it.
  8. Maybe those long bones?? Since genie lamps don't work until you have a house.
  9. It's mostly people eoc trading unfortunately.
  10. No extra fee!!! WOO! :D I'm pretty happy with the outcome!
  11. If people were holding off from voting because they weren't going to pay an extra $15 then no one would be voting. It would not give a true result because people who would be interested would not vote. So going by that logic, if there were 500k people who would play only if it cost no extra, but held off from voting, then they would never reach that 500k when ironically there would have been enough people to make it there. I'm pretty sure Jagex never intended on actually charging people an extra $15, it was purely to get more people to vote, and for people to get their friends in to vote. The fact that Jagex have even said things like voting to make your friends happy, etc, just shows that this whole voting thing is just smart marketing, and while it shows a fairly decent indication of interest, it's mostly the marketing thing!
  12. Okay fair enough, we all have opinions and I do see where you are coming from but I still think you're being a bit too pessimistic about it all. Anyway I guess we'll leave it at that and watch and see how it goes ;)
  13. So do people think Jagex will extend the poll for a couple extra days? Considering it ends on a Friday, they could easily extend the voting over the weekend and I can see them telling people to urge their friends to vote as a 'last chance'. Or they'll just say close enough and pass whatever votes they get off as the 500k tier. I don't think they'll settle for the 250k option.
  14. The costume room was also a useful update...
  15. Or they could not. Since the 750,000 tier is gone, it looks like free players aren't going to get in regardless. Jagex has said that if 750k is earned F2P will open up, even after they bumped the rewards for 750k down to 500k. We are under 450k votes with like 25 hours remaining - it's going to take a sudden surge of votes to get 500k, 750k may as well not exist as a tier at this point. Never say never. We had math equations predicting 208k at 2 week end and that doubled. I was just saying the 750k tier still exist even if it's not gonna be earned. That is true but mathematical predictions at an early stage are likely to be off by a fair margin - they rely on the assumption the existing curve of vote rate will persist indefinitely - a fact which is unlikely to be true given any length of time, not to mention the various PR stunts of course had an impact. What is interesting s the convergence of misplacedme's estimations in the past 24 hours or so By votes during the most recent log: 460,098 By votes in the last hour: 457,361 By votes in the last 24 hours: 450,687 By votes since logging began: 465,490 She's(?) not using any fancy predictive algorithms just simply projecting the last Vote per minute (from the 5 min logs) Vote per hour, vote per 24 hours and votes in the entire time of the poll forward at a flat rate to the final timeframe. The fact that all 4 are converging suggests, baring any miraculous change to voting, the estimation is getting quite accurate. Which puts our final tally quite neatly in the 450-460k ballpark, which in turn implies even with a final PR stunt to create another bump (based on how the prior ones worked) we aren't going to hit 500k very easily at all. Well of course they will get closer as the time gets closer to finishing. That's the point. But it will be interesting to see if Jagex do anything else to push up the votes, though I would assume a lot of last minute people would be rushing in to vote in the last day, which might lead to small increase in votes per minute. And if it ends up in the 450-460k area which seems quite likely, it will be interesting to see if Jagex call that close enough to 500k. Only time will tell ;)
  16. It was less than 2 weeks (when they originally said 1-2 months) and yes sounded like some overtime, but that's not much developer time, especially since it was only a small team and only a fraction of the whole RuneScape staff. Who says it was only a fraction of the staf? I read otherwise, out of the 'pen'of J-mods who said they got a lot of the staf to test 07, besides it is not done yet.. they are constantly working on it and already messed up by glitching the clan highscores. Yeah that's fair enough, there probably were quite a few testing it (perhaps more than normal as people who don't usually spend time testing would probably be willing to give it a go). And yes it's not done yet, I know, but the dedicated team will take care of that. Also the quest was likely delayed because if it was released at the same time as OSRS then it wouldn't have recieved as much attention as it deserved. I don't know much about this quest, but from what I heard it is to be a new grandmaster quest that Jagex have been working on for close to a year? If that's the case, maybe they needed an extra week to give it that final polish, it's not like it's unheard of that Software development often gets delayed. If the quest had been delayed because it needed more time, that would have been totaly fine, hapenes a lot. It was not however, since an other J-mod stated the quest was fully completed. Sadly I do not have quickfind codes, so you you can choose to believe me or not.. up to you, I for one want all I contend to be true as far as I know it to be true. It is possible the quest was delayed because it and 07 would otherwise be competing for atention.. if that is the case, how do you justify postponing something already anounced for the live game to do a sideproject a week or 2 early? You can easily justify it: 1. Release 07 early and increase popularity hugely making the hundreds of thousands of people who voted happy = more money (continuing to build on the excitement and momentum), or 2. Release a quest which provides a few hours of content. Also as Jagex said, it's not really just a side project, it's a new service launched by Jagex. The fact that players on OSRS and RS has roughly the same concurrent users shows how popular it is (not to mention that RS includes a whole heap of bots and f2p players), so OSRS has significantly more members playing on the launch. (And I'm not saying that as to say OSRS will be/is more popular, obviously on launch it is likely to have inflated numbers, but it's just to show how much support and interest it holds). I do not doubt many players like to, at least for a little bit, revisit the past. I would have if it had not requirered a vote. You should not overdo it though, it was at max about 40/ 60 07/13. Someone who like me seems to have to much time on their hads tracked it on the forums. As far as bots are concerned, I do not know from personal experience how many 07 has, but I hear a lot of them and see many offers to sell gold for 07 already, which has to come from somewere. I can tell you, from having seen it with my own eyes that most goldfarmer bots are as we speak gone from the live game. No more wilderness green dragon bots what so ever in any world.. I liek to kill them, so I looked . The mature grotworms are doable again since there are a lot less bots and those there seem to be player-owned-bots. Same for runeessence mine. Summers garden is empty in some worlds, and till populated in others. This would suggest the numbers need to be adjuasted in favor of the live game. If however 07 continues to be more popular thenJagex, like TS-stormrage said, has really shot themselves in their foot, since there is no way you can build a future on nostalgia. I'm assuming you're talking about this which backs me up: http://www.misplaced.../2007online.php I agree with your last part, while I want it to be very successful, I hope that main RS still has most popularity as it may be concerning that Jagex's most popular product is just the older version of it's current product. However, the game is not just nostalgia, most people seem to think it is. There are many reasons why 07 appeals to people, and while I enjoy the nostalgia aspects of it, I enjoy the game and the fresh start prospects more (but the game is surprising me, I thought the nostalgia aspect would get old fast but I'm still loving it, and that's probably because there is so much to do before it even starts to get old). Also these stats I got right now: Date: 2013-02-27 22:45:00 Live Users: 53,410 [49.75%] 2007 Users: 53,954 [50.25%] Also it's a week... for a quest. People acting like Jagex have failed them miserably because of a one week wait really need to calm down and get over it, a week of extra QA and development will make it even better. It is not the week that matters, it is the slap in the face of the loyal players who normaly do not rant and rave. This part of the community would fully understand a delay for technical reasons, but noone can seriously contend rushing 07 is a good reason, since 07 was suposed to take 2 months anyway and the poll is not even closed. bringing 07 out sooner was a smart business move, in the end Jagex are doing it to better position themselves, they are hoping it will be as successful as possible and if they succeed it will benefit all RS players. In this extra week they are likely to continue testing it, and you never know, it might just end up slightly better with the extra testing. Also where did they say it would possibly delay the new skill? (not to mention that doesn't make sense since OSRS has their own small development team). They did not, it was asserted on the forums, that is why I did not state this as a fact. OSRS having a small development team seems to not be likely. If they had enough programmers to spare they would have fixed the to some rather disasterous clan highscore glitch already. That is also part of 07 developement, sicne 07 servervisits by clanmates caused this glitch.
  17. I had no idea until people were mentioning it, but I haven't really played RS in 2 years and I don't really play it now so I guess that doesn't count.
  18. Little things like scroll button for map and tab to reply are likely to make its way into the game, as countless people have asked in the rsof, and considering there is a small development team, and since these features aren't content that will ruin the old school vibe then I don't see why Jagex wouldn't consider them. Anyway, if you find EoC a lot more enjoyable then that's great, you should play what you enjoy more :)
  19. If i'm not mistaken, the old thing Jagex did to interfere, was increase the awareness of the 2007scape poll and release the game early? Yes, but those are both very obvious PR stunts they pulled out of the bag when votes started to flat-line. You can see it quite clearly on misplaced graph, right where the curve levelled off to near flat they suddenly spammed twitter and fb and moved the vote to the front page with an instan vote button producing a nice bump. Then as it started to flatline again they suddenly pulled out early access servers to create another bump. Certainly they are not doing anything wrong to play the pr game, but it says a lot when they have to take such dramatic steps, both at points when the voting was flat-lining to bump things along. Not to mention dragging most of the 750k+ tier down to 500k+ At the end of the day, the people who aren't going to vote aren't going to vote, these "dramatic" steps of marketing only help to spread the word and get a more true interest in the servers. If Jagex didn't market it as much as they could they would be stupid. I see you acknowledged there's nothing wrong with it, but you seem to speak of it in negative tone like it is a problem. For me personally, i know a couple of people that weren't gonna vote for the servers and ended up voting after jagex bribed them into playing by offering first month free. This goes far beyong just "marketing", it was a full on bribe, vote yes for this and get immediate access to the server with no payment cost. Majority of my friend list (again personal experience) voted yes for it just to see what it was like and then immediately went back to the live game or other games they were playing. Yeah that's true, and some of those people might end up enjoying it and playing it when they originally weren't going to vote. But my point still stands, that those who aren't going to vote, won't. Maybe those people didn't intend on voting but they did.

  21. You also have to remember that main game has not only lots of bots, but lots of f2pers. So there is considerable amount more RS members playing 07 than main game (of course this can be attributed to the initial peak), but since there was the post showing how much of a drop there already was, I just think it's interesting.
  22. In-game experience with players you meet is anecdotal evidence at best. If you are really interested in finding a more wholesome survey of the base, checking the various forums is a great place to start, and you will most definitely find hordes of people who fit into MBII's generalizations. How is his anecdotal evidence different from yours? Yeah I agree with you. @ Yoko Kurama: In-game you have a nice spread of people who are actually playing the game. The forum is mostly full of loud unhappy people who always want what's best for themselves, in fact it's like 90% filled with those people. Those who are happy are not talking on the forum, they are in-game enjoying themselves. And the in-game community has been excellent so far, maybe I've been lucky and only met friendly people, so I'm not going to make any assumptions, but I've found it to be very positive. (and I'm not trying to make conclusions or prove a point, just stating what I've experienced)

  24. I'd imagine you just get the xp, construction is only untrainable because PoH are turned off due to needing to find/make work the old poh servers. Well I only ask because you cannot use skill lamps or any other means of getting xp since you don't own a house, and since no one has even got any xp yet I'm curious. If no one still has any xp in a few days I'd bet that these quests are unavailable or you don't get the con xp reward (yet).
