/me Shudders... I don't know how you can live with dial-up. I get annoyed when pages dont load instantly. Glad a don't live in a small town...
-
I want to go to your school...
-
As long as it's still selling it shouldn't be in public domain.

I remember at my high school, they took out the two soda machines for juice machines... Of course everyone was a bit annoyed and such, but the real kicker was that if you looked at the nutrition facts for the juice that they sold it was actually quite a bit worse than your for soda. And tasted horrible too. People just need to, I don't know, eat less? And healthier. It's not a hard concept to grasp. To quote Bash: The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

Math/Computer Science. They're basically the same thing in my mind.

mind telling me what that is? ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Although from what you said if it is something like that, it would be ADD, not ADHD. However, chances are it is not that. Getting distracted isn't exactly the same as having ADD.

Not to sound completely geeky, but I'm someone who really enjoys learning. Well, I enjoy learning everything but English and history (strict history I mean. I like things like economics). The only down side to school is writing papers. The tests and homework I was able to deal with, but papers really got me. I'm just not one to write a huge paper. Homework was no problem because I never did it, and tests were no problem either because I understood the material. Actually, I guess what I don't like about school is the emphasis on homework. In numberous classes I have gotten near perfect scores on every test, yet not as good grades as others because I didn't do the homework most of the time. I just don't see the point in doing busy work when I understand the material.

I don't drink soda anymore, but I know that Coke and Pepsi have very different tastes. I don't really prefer one over the other though. Vanilla Coke was amazing though.

(Argh, I just typed out a pretty long post then accidentially did the mouse gesture to close the tab... I really need to take that option off. Consequentially, this post will be much shorter.) I take morning showers too, mainly because I have only a couple of minutes from the time I wake up to get out the door. As for what can't go without daily, It's probably just my computer. I need at least a few minutes of Internet access everyday to feel complete. Even a cell phone will do if I'm desperate.

Not funny, have some respect. :x their not the only one in this topic with no respect. All you people saying how selfish it was the he killed himself are sick. Yes it may be selfish but he killed himself and is no longer here. He obviously had a rough life and didnt feel he can handle it anymore. I feel bad for his family because im sure the researched the game that was a factor in his death and i really hope the dont see some of the things people have said about him on here. very sad..... I do feel bad for his family too. It's a shame that they have to lose a loved one because he couldn't cope with life anymore. I don't feel sorry for him though.

I truly hope one day you may feel the pain of a depression yourself. If it's true what Maarten did then it can never be because of something as silly as a RS scam, even though it may have been everything he had in RS. He most likely was depressed already, had severe problems in his real life, perhaps family problems as well, and now that his 'best' friend scammed him it must've become too much for him. But one fact can never lead to suicide, it's always a combination of multiple factors, the disease we know as depression often being the most important one. Why can't people see that depression is just a disease inside some1's brain? Damn them, I wish they'd be confronted with it some day so that they can stop treating those people as mentally weak idiots. There are generally two things which I feel are evil in this world: Killing and lying. (Though lying is a bifferent issue which I will not get into now.) Killing someone is almost never justified (there are exceptions... If the only way to stop a murderer is to kill him, then I would have to accept that he must be killed... But only as a final option), and killing yourself is NEVER justified. It's just something that I feel very strongly about. No matter how cliche it sounds, people should treasure their lives. I believe that everyone has a purpose in their life and you shouldn't be quick to dismiss your life as unnecessary.

At what point in your life where you were the least social
db26 replied to TheRealist's topic in Off-Topic
Probably my freshman year of high school. Honestly, I can't even remember what I did in my free time that year... Or even what friends I had. It's just a blur. -
Even if what the only actual math that you are including in your code is simple arithmetic, computer science is basically the application of math. I always feel that to do any programming you need to have a good concept of math and logic. You may not be using complicated formulas and equations, but it's still largely math-based. So, yeah, tell your students that if any of them wants to do anything with computers math is very important, even if you don't use the exact things you learned in school. It's more about the way that you think through problems. (Maybe my opinion is a bit biased because I LOVE math, but still...) Also, while it's not as serious as the rest of this topic, you can suggest that they watch the TV show Numb3rs. It's a bit of an exaggeration of what is true for most people, but it's still interesting.

*has visions of db26 dressed as a chav with a pink polo shirt* lol I'm not really sure what "chav" means as it's slang I'm not familar with, but you're right on the pink polo part. I try to not wear it too often though... Maybe only once every two months. People either love it or hate it.

How many quests have you done (or left to do)
db26 replied to saylorkev's topic in General Discussion
/me Points to sig. I don't really feel like checking now, but it's not that many. I think I haven't done two or three F2P quests, and I've done about 5-7 P2P quests. I only do them when they're absolutely necessary to me... I haven't even done Hero's Quest. Or Shield of Arrav. -
About 3 hours on line at Best Buy on Black Friday a few years ago. It was worth it though, got some great deals that year.

I used to wear all these "ghetto" clothes like Ecko, Mecca, Enyce, School of Hard Knocks, Marithe Francois Girbaud, etc, but I'm trying to phase that out now. I'm slowing moving into another group of conformity with Lacoste, Ralph Lauren, Le Tigre, Calvin Klein, and all those other polo and button-down shirt makers...

lol from that you sound like a bit of a geek, maybe just coz I ain't got a clue bout any of this, but yeh. :D If one must be labeled as a geek for loving anime then so be it. It's just so much better than the garbage that we get on TV in America. I can't stand this whole reality tv craze and have been waiting for it to die out for years. Yet, they just keep on diving lower and lower into the barrel with worse and worse ideas for new shows. There's actualy only two American shows that I watch now (with new episodes, I mean): Scrubs and The Office. Okay... This is turning into more of a rant, so I'll stop there. But in summary, anime owns. :D

FMA kicks [wagon]. Maybe not nearly as much [wagon] as FLCL or Trigun or Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien, but still an amazing show. I can't really come up with a favorite part of the series, so I'll just go with the music. Some of the best openings and endings I've seen in an anime.

That flyer for Bob's Axes. Not sure why...

I think it lasted a bit too long... And it might be funnier if it was in a language I could understand. I think it's a fake too.

How is it not the mark of cowardice? It is the very epitome of not facing your problems and taking the easy way out.

1. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES) 2. Perfect Dark (N64) 3. Dragon Quest 3 (SNES/GBC) Other notables on my list are: -Dance Dance Revolution (If I want to be specific, 5th mix is my favorite) (PS1) -Tetris (Classic...) -Super Smash Bros. Melee (GCN) -Megaman X (SNES... and remake for PSP) -Balloon Fight (NES) -Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64) -Every other Dragon Quest I could go on... But I think that about covers it well enough.

I think I only have one sports related injury in my recent memory. I think it was about half a year ago. I was playing handball at the park (not team handball, as some people thing... look at http://www.ushandball.org/ for more info if you don't know) and the court was pretty much fenced in except for the top, and a small cutout in the fence for the entrance. The entrance was probably only about 4 and a half or five feet high, so it is necessary to duck quite a bit when entering or exiting the court. Well, I was playing for a while and eventually I made a really bad hit and smacked the ball out over the fence and into some grass or the street somewhere. Given that the ball is pretty small and I've lost many of them before because of mis-hits (even though they only cost about 1.50 each for decent ones, I've probably spend at least $100-$200 a year on handballs because they always get lost or pop), I dashed out of the court to get the ball before it rolled away. MISTAKE. This was not a court that I usually played on, maybe only five or six times previous to this time, so I wasn't as used to the environment. As I was running to get the ball, I ducked to get through the hole in the fence, but apparently not nearly enough. I ran full speed in a metal pipe used to give shape to the cut-out. my feet flew out in front of me and I landed on my back outside of the court. It hurt like hell, but I thought I was okay, just probably going to have a big bump on my head for a while... Then I realized that there was a pool of blood quick amassing on the floor next to my head. Being in a park there was really no where to go around there, so my friends walked me down a couple blocks to a Dunkin Donuts. The blood was pouring down my face at this point, and I was getting pretty worried looks from people driving by in their cars, so I was pretty worried. I rushed into the bathroom in the Dunkin Donuts and ran my head under the faucet. My friends got some ice to put on my head once the blood stopped coming out so quickly in a few minutes. To my luck there just happened to be a woman eating at the Dunkin Donuts who was a nurse. She looked at my head and said that I needed to go to a hospital immediately to get stiches. She gave me a business card of a nearby hospital (it wasn't really a hospital, like a mini hospital... I'm not sure of the right word for it) where she worked. I got a ride to the hospital and got quite a number of stiches in my head, which proceeded to hurt a ****ing lot over the next couple of days... Luckily everything worked out fine... The only remnants of the injury are a bump on my head which will probably never go away and hair not growing so well on the place where I hit my head. Okay, so that was a pretty anti-climactic ending to my story, but I'd prefer something like that to going into a coma or something like that. That was also a very long-winded version of the story. Normally, the story I tell people is "Someone hit me with a pipe." Granted it was myself who hit me with the pipe, but it makes for a much more interesting conversation piece if I say it this way :)

If we have to go with groups, I probably have to go with Bone Thugs, A Tribe Called Quest, and Public Enemy. If individuals are allowed, probably Common, Talib Kweli, Immortal Technique, and Slick Rick. Maybe Eminems stuff from a couple years ago too... I hate his newer albums.
