The Mysterious Editor
Greetings everyone. I am monsieur Grande de la Pain, the finest torturer in the whole of RuneScape! I too am curious about who this editor fellow really is, so for absolutely nothing* I will use my skills to wring the truth out of her. This one shouldn't take too long to crack... *by nothing I mean you must give me all your party hats, half wines, coal, and toy horses. Because you have read this, you have agreed to give me all the aforementioned, whether or not I do the job. If you don't like it, too bad. :P (This will self destruct within five seconds)

Investigating the Wise Old Man
Unfortunately, if meetings were held at 8:00pm, it would hamper some people trying to get to a TET event. You can always come in late if we're having a long meeting though. I'm sorry you couldn't come, but we can't keep everyone happy I'm afraid.

Investigating the Wise Old Man
Great, my Internet decided to die at the worst possible moment- sorry KCHughes. Anyway, basically we found out what two of the symbols on the Falador Stones stood for. In the smoke dungeon, where you obtain the smoke diamond, viewing it in High Detail will cause swirls to appear, the exact same as the ones on the swirl stone. Because we made the connection that the smoke diamond equals pestilence, we conclude that the rock holds the symbol of a Pestilence Rune. Now as for the one with waves. The ice diamond involves a troll which needs to be fed something. Because we worked out the other three stones already, the ice diamond is very likely to be famine. Unsurprisingly, the mountain which the troll lives on is cold, and of course if we look at cold weather, we find blizzards. The waves look very similar to an artists impression of a blizzard, so we also concluded that the wave rock was a Famine Rune. The other two we are not 100% sure about. Trobigod suggested that the sun rock may be a War Rune, due to the sun being linked with the 'dawn of war' etc. So that would leave the eye/freemason rock as a Death Rune. Of course, that would be confusing, unless there can be two different types of Death Runes. However, there isn't much evidence located in-game that provides support for these statements, but it seems the most likely conclusion. We made a fair bit of progress- once again thanks to Trobigod for the information! Unfortunately the meeting ended a tad early and few came, though I'm sure everyone had their reasons. :) Hope you lot can make it next week! Oh yeah, and Trobigod is going to try using Ancient Magicks on the stones to see if anything happens. We'll wait 'till the next meeting to see if something was revealed... And about the meeting world- I know it makes sense to use the Tip.It homeworld, but the lag was killing us. Looking at the TET event thread, some of them have been experiencing problems too. If this happens next meeting, we may have to change to a different world to host the meetings. Lag does not make anyone happy. P.S. I was writing this purely from memory, so I might have missed something. Add to it if you wish.

Investigating the Wise Old Man
'Life' Runes? The opposite of Death and possibly, the apocalypse? Maybe even a small gleam of hope? This Life Tower might be the only thing that could stop the Wise Old Man from becoming a god. Say we got these Life Runes. If they are summoning runes, then we could create our own army to stop the WOM and Zaros. Only trouble is, the WOM will have more knowledge about summoning before we even lay our hands on those runes, so his army will likely be far greater than ours. Oh great... :P Aye, but there were seven of them before he shot that poor man. "If your men stay out there, they're liable to catch a cold, aren't they? Or even a bullet." At least, that's what he said in the English version. Providing he can make it, of course. *Hastily washes bloody scimitar* Yes, 'tis the same time. I'll hopefully see you there- well, I should, there's not anything I'm going to be doing tonight. Let me just say that your knowledge would make my history teacher look stupid. Anyway, that thing about the number three is rather interesting, but also a bit scary- it's almost as if Jagex intended that there be four of us at the first meeting. If I leave and go to the Wise Old Man and Zaros, there will be three on both sides. Since three is apparently sacred, both sides will have an equal advantage.

Investigating the Wise Old Man
KCHughes, I just remember that you said there are different rune animations on the opening page. Well, just now I saw one that looked very similar to the eye/freemason symbol on one of the Falador Stones. I'm almost certain that these are symbols for runes now (most likely summoning). Out of curiosity, have you seen any more rune symbols that are like the ones on the stones? 1alebcay made them, not me.

Investigating the Wise Old Man
I'm not entirely sure what the map means, though I think the places you listed are correct. Is it anything to do with treasure? 1alebcay made a post with all three different signatures. Here are the first two: And the animated one:

Investigating the Wise Old Man
Yep. Same old Water Altar. You can listen to the frogs if you come early. :D It won't matter if you come or not, but we'll be glad if you can make it. There should be a meeting the week after though if you can't. Oh, and don't forget your Water Talisman!

Investigating the Wise Old Man
Well, the last meeting lasted for around an hour, so the next will probably last the same amount of time. However, it is rather unpredictable to say the least- don't worry though, if you're going to a TET event, you can leave the meeting at any time. We'd love you to come when you get the time though, and that goes to everyone. The first one was very interesting. P.S. You've brilliant English for a Dutch person. :)

Investigating the Wise Old Man
As much as I won't enjoy fighting someone with an Abyssal Whip, it'll have to be done in the name of Zaros, I'm afraid. It'll be sad to kill you, him, 1alebcay, chad197, and everyone else who posts in this thread though. Don't worry- I'll tell Zaros to make it quick. Well, I would basically have to betray you. At the last meeting there were four of us, and if it stays that way we're going to be plagued by death. However, if I leave, there's three- the perfect number, as a late Lee Van Cleef once said in a certain very famous movie. :P Oh, and the next WOMDA meeting is tomorrow at 7:00pm GMT, as a reminder. Hopefully Trobigod will come- he's a practical treasure chest of information. That is interesting. Are there any monsters in the place that machine goes to which might be of use to the WOM? Or is there any other special thing there, regardless of whether or not it's an object or a person?

Investigating the Wise Old Man
Sorry. Me stupid. However, if that's true, does this mean that Jagex created their own version of the apocalypse? Or is this just a huge coincidence (if so, probably the biggest in gaming history)? I'd like to think our information is plausible. I mean, god war=apocalypse really, and we've found all these connections to War, Famine, Pestilence and Death through several things (the diamonds, the symbols, the Stronghold of Security etc.). P.S. You do know that if the WOM does leave a wasteland, I'll betray WOMDA at once, just for a bit of power. :P Just kidding... or am I?

Investigating the Wise Old Man
Thing is, there are several interpretations of the apocalypse. Jagex could be using any one of them. And do we have four hoursmen? I must have missed something...

Investigating the Wise Old Man
The weapons are: A bow + crown A large sword Scales The power to kill by the sword Thanks very much for that! Hmmm... a white horse, a red horse, a black horse, and a pale horse. Do those colours have any significance in RuneScape? I notice that it says 'Hades was following close behind him.' In this case, Hades would be Zaros, would he not? However, if this story is going to play out like the apocalypse, what would the horse riders be? Is it possible that the four riders shall be the masters of each level of the Stronghold of Security? But I don't think they'll just stick to their gate form. They might merge themselves with every monster from their level to create a super being. Ouch- imagine being fought by a Ghoelekou (ghost, skeleton and Ankou).

Investigating the Wise Old Man
I was thinking more that the sycthe was just another symbol for the four layers of doom. There's probably a funny sword, some long unused bow, and dusty old scales hanging around as well. If there is something about these objects that connects to the Wise Old Man, we would have another connection to the apocalypse. The list would just keep growing if these things did exist.
-
Investigating the Wise Old Man
The Bible doesn't specifically mention Death carried anything, though a sycthe would seem likely. Same with games as well. As long as Jagex keeps the basics of the apocalypse, they don't really need to worry that one carried nothing. They'll just drop a sycthe into his hand. Speaking of which, wasn't there a Halloween Event in which you could obtain a sycthe? If so, was it in Draynor?

Investigating the Wise Old Man
I've been doing a bit of searching, and found something that may be of interest. Apparently the riders of the apocalypse carried different things. War carried a sword, Famine carried scales, and Pestilence carried a bow. However, I forget what Death carried, if anything. But anyway, are any of these things lying inside or near the Wise Old Man's house?

Investigating the Wise Old Man
Those are very, very good. Hope you don't mind if I use one! :D Not sure if it means anything, but in China, Korea etc. the number four can be translated as a symbol of death. Death also happens to be the fourth layer of the apocalypse. Possibly this is why the number four plagues the story of the Wise Old Man, as his intentions seem to ultimately lead to death.

Investigating the Wise Old Man
I'm not entirely sure if they are implying that it is summoning or creation, to tell you the truth. If it is summoning, however, we'll have to send someone to investigate the Tower for any signs of the Wise Old Man having even a shred of influence there. If no one minds, of course. However, if there are four mysterious things hanging around this new Tower, then finding evidence of the WOM will just be to make sure...

Investigating the Wise Old Man
And I think I can relate them to the four layers of doom, purely by colour. If you go from right to left on the Tip.It Pest Control map, you'll see that the portal colours are similar to those found in each section, in the corresponding order of war, famine, pestilence, and death. Well, I'm a new fan of the 'Dollars' trilogy, so I thought I might as well put in my favourite character. :P It'd be funny if someone came into this thread with an Eli Wallach avatar though.

The Mind Feast
Well, I've decided to have a go at writing a bit of RuneScape based fantasy. Not sure how I'll do, but tell me what you think, whether good or bad. The story will come to you chapter by chapter, but at completely random times, so don't expect them to come late or soon! Well, here we go: Chapter 1 The dank, rotten smell of the prison furthered Relka Frot̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s slow descent into madness. How long ago had it been since he had been captured? One... two... three hours? It felt like a lifetime to him. He wished he could escape, but getting out of a room with no windows or doors would prove rather difficult. But it couldn̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t be completely void of windows and doors, for how did he get in here? The thought that there might be a secret door occurred to him within seconds. Desperately, he scrabbled to the wall opposite him, and proceeded to pummel his fists on the limestone bricks, but to no avail. After doing this to all four sides, he gave up and flopped to the ground, exhausted by this simple exercise. Something in this room was slowly eating away his mind, and he knew it. But what was it? Relka was certain about one thing though- there would be no escape. His eyes darted from side to side, beads of sweat rolling silently down his cheek. He wondered if his brothers and sisters were out looking for him, and if his mother was safe. For such a young boy, these were brave thoughts when his own fate was sealed. And then the thing came again. A dark, monstrous shape appeared out of the darkness that covered the ceiling. Descending down on him with such gracefulness that certainly did not mirror its bulky body, the thing landed on the floor, and hissed at the boy. It wore a black, blood-stained hood, with a dark blue cloak that was likewise stained with blood. It had tentacles sprouting out of its sleeves instead of hands, and its feet were clad with a strange material that Relka could not identify. Then the thing threw back its hood. Before his eternal slavery, Relka felt neither fear nor anger. He only felt a sadness that could not be described in any terms. It was the same sadness felt by so many other hundreds of people that had had their mines ate away to shreds, so that they could be bound to these creatures. The thing placed its tentacles on Relka̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s head, and slowly, the little boy who wanted to become a great fisherman like his father was ruined. A short chapter I know, but basically a starting point. Criticism is much appreciated.

Investigating the Wise Old Man
Just a thought, but does anything happen if you 'Use' the diamonds on the four stones? I believe that he'll mostly use the melee armour and weapons to supply his army, due to their brilliant strength. If he had multiple Dharok's Greataxes and was to weaken his horde enough, the ones with the axe would be able to deliver remarkable damage. Also, Verac's Flail is able to hit through prayer, isn't it? Then Guthan's armour would provide amazing protection. If he had all this, his army would be unstoppable. Strangely enough, there are four brothers that use melee. I'm not sure, but is it possible that you could connect the melee brothers to war, famine, pestilence and death? I actually quite enjoyed reading that. Maybe you should put it into a story as well? :D Have you at least started the Ghost's Ahoy quest? I think you need to in order to enter Port Phasmatys. But otherwise, good job, though I think you're right about the symbol being in the port as it's the only place you've not looked into.

Investigating the Wise Old Man
So, you're basically saying that everyone who contributed to this thread wasted their time posting over 700 replies? It doesn't matter who the Wise Old Man really is. It's been fun to think up ideas and discuss the thoughts of others. That's what it's meant to be- fun. EDIT: Well, first WOM meeting over. I actually think that went quite well. Much thanks to Trobigod, who provided us with excellent information. Unfortunately, I was rudely taken away by Evil Bob at the end.

Investigating the Wise Old Man
Sure. :D Thanks. :D Well, when I got there I only bumped into one person who was crafting runes, so I don't think many people will be there. It should go rather smoothly, with no flaming or spamming. Not long now until our first WOMDA meeting. I'm getting rather excited, to tell you the truth.

Investigating the Wise Old Man
Whoops, never even thought of that. Hang on... doesn't the quest Contact! have a bit of famine in it? Maybe one of the cities holds the symbol of the sun? Or even a pyramid, which is even more likely... but as you said, the desert is deadly. Well, it seems right that these symbols should be hard to find- they are, after all, supposedly tied in with the apocalypse etc. Well, one type of rune can be used for multiple spells. Air runes, for example, are used for most damaging spells. So, maybe Death runes can also be used for a summoning spell? It seems perfectly possible. Speaking of the meeting, I've left my character next to the Water Altar. Would logging in 5 minutes before be okay? Well, I hope you'll get there mostly unscathed. Thanks very much for this information by the way- it may prove to be of great value. However, wouldn't it be rather ironic if you were to die right at the symbol for Death? :P

Investigating the Wise Old Man
Thanks a lot! This may help out a bit. Make sure you bring the correct equipment, though. And be careful. Even so, I'm quite sure you'll get to the TET event on time. If it does go over an hour though, we'll have to put proper timing into it for future meetings (if there are going to be any).

Investigating the Wise Old Man
Only if it goes on for an hour, which I seriously doubt. It's just a short meeting once a week to discuss the Wise Old Man of Draynor Village, and what he may be up to. Really, we're not going to stand talking for an hour at a Water Altar. You mean the rumoured RuneScape 3? Possibly, though there is no real information on whether or not it's currently being made. For now, the third version of RuneScape is a rumour, and nothing more.
