Investigating the Wise Old Man
Why is this sounding more and more like Lord of the Rings... Does it? I can't really see the similarity. We're going to fight a god and someone who wants to become one... we have the apocalypse... no, can't see it, sorry. Have you ever seen Return of the King?It sounds alot like that because there are few of us and we are about to try and kill a massive number of monsters whith a likelyhood of failing.... Can you se it now? I suppose in a way it is similar, but a small group of people fighting against massive amounts of foes is a recurring theme in most fantasy movies and games. The only examples I can think of that are similar to The Lord of the Rings are the forests of Isadafar, Mirthril armour, and Dwarves. Jagex not only borrows ideas from LOTR, but from hundreds of fantasy and fairy tale stories. However, as far as I know, the Wise Old Man is unique. Yes, there have been plenty of wise men in stories, but never was one so... indepth as him.

Yep. Water Altar. Lumbridge Swamps. I'm just thinking- if we were to fight the WOM and Zaros, would they not be something crazy like Level 1000 with a load of hitpoints to boot? Basically we are going against impossible odds... and that's even better! We'll likely die of course, but nevertheless, we'll fight. But we are going to try and stop him from causing the apocalypse in the first place, aren't we?

Investigating the Wise Old Man
Yes we will! Also, I noticed something new. At Aggie the Witch's house in Draynor there's a wall hanging with a symbol that looks identical to one of the four rocks (the swirlie one). Now we have 2 locations: The book on WOM's desk has a symbol identical to one of the rocks, Aggie's house has another. Where are the other 2 symbols? Well, Aggie is a witch, so that would hint at disease. The book on WOM's desk could possibly be a book on the details of war (well, we already know he is rather the fighter). Perhaps the other two symbols are somewhere that relates to death and famine? I have a feeling they are in Morytania- the only problem with that is, if we send a Member into the swamps, there's a very high chance that they'll get killed. I doubt even the bravest would dare venture in there. Grrr, talk about a clever trap by Jagex. I hope I'm wrong, but I can't think of any other places to do with famine and death.

What Father Aereck saw the Seminary staff doing in the cemetery that night would be of much use. Hopefully some of our letters will get answered next month. All of these realizations occurring at once seems like a pretty weird coincidence. We make the great big connection of WOM to the next God War, then the symbols of the apocalypse. As long as Jagex underestimates our chances of finding out what's really going on with the WOM, I'm pretty certain they'll answer it. Hopefully this last clue will put everything in place. So we shall fight Lesser Demons, Greater Demons, Ankou's, Giant Skeletons, Moss Giants, Hill Giants, Deadly Red Spiders, Ice Warriors, Ice Giants, Hobgoblins, Skeletons, Pirates, Muggers, Giant Spiders, Giant Rats, Scorpions, King Scorpions, Black Knights, Catablepon's, Zombies, Ghosts, Minotaurs, Wolves, Evil Chicken and whatever else he may throw at us? Count me in!

Investigating the Wise Old Man
Well, the Oracle is pretty close to the Monastery, the monks there are Saradominists, the Stone Circle isn't too far away... But apart from that, no. I can't see anything else. Sorry to be rather brief, but I fail to see any connection between the monks and the Wise Old Man. In my opinion, it's some sort of strange joke by Jagex.

Investigating the Wise Old Man
Well, essentially yes. Of course, we could always join the WOM and serve him in the barren wasteland that will come after the destruction of Gielinor. However, that will mean we'll be no better than slaves, but hey, sure beats getting ripped apart by fifty Ankou's. :P

Just wondering.. Has any1 ever done DS without anti-shield?
And hot... :P Sorry, had to make the obvious joke. Anyway, I'm 100% certain it is possible without the anti-dragon shield. You just need 99 hitpoints, and lots of food. But relatively speaking, you'd have to be either an idiot or extremely brave to fight her without the shield. I did Dragon Slayer recently, and she's hard enough with the shield (I know I said that 'it was easier than I thought,' but really I overestimated her strength. Nonetheless, she'll easily kill you if you don't watch your health). As for the lowest level to ever face Elvarg, I'm sure a Level 3 has probably done it. If that's true, they must have been one very good player. Erm, I thought she hit a maximum of 43 without the shield (or does that not really count?).

_-'-_ SARADOMIN...ZAMORAK...GUTHIX _-'-_ [5000+ views!!!]
Despite him saying "I'm Zar... err... I mean miaow.", Bob the Cat is not Zaros. He is really Robert the Strong, a warrior of Armadyl from the second age. You wouldn't mind telling me where you got that from, would you? :)

Investigating the Wise Old Man
That's right...war, famine, disease, and death were the 4 horsemen. They came in that order as well; war first, then famine, then disease, and finally death. It's the same way in the stronghold. I'm not sure what that may mean. :-k The Apocalypse, maybe? Well, Guthix did say that if there was another God War Gielinor would be destroyed. So now we have the WOM trying to become a god, which will certainly trigger another war- yep, we have War already! The God War will completely dry up the land's supply of food, due to the high chances of ghasts coming out of Morytania if the war were to start- Famine now! The lack of food would trigger diseases, and if the creatures from Morytania were to roam freely across the land the chance of this would be so huge that disease would be nigh impossible to avoid- well, there's your Pestilence/Disease! War kills. Famine kills. Disease kills. All of these eventually link to the final thing- Death. This is all coming together like a jigsaw puzzle now. But what pieces are left to find?

Investigating the Wise Old Man
So, if we are doing it an hour before the TET event, we meet at 7:00pm UK time I presume? Well, I should be there. Sorry, I misread the page. 8:00 PM UK time. Don't worry, easy mistake. I have obtained a Water Talisman, so all being well I should be able to come. Also, I had a quick search around the area surrounding the Water Altar this morning. Lumbridge Swamps was totally deserted then, and I think it'll still be now and tomorrow. Hopefully nobody will notice a small band of people walking through the swamp. Of course, we could always send out a scout if you wish. Well, I realized something yesterday. Not sure if it's important, but the four levels of the Stronghold of Security appear to be named after the four Horse Riders of the Apocalypse (so I've been told). There are also four stones in the Falador Stone Circle. The Stronghold and the Stones are also relatively close together. If we add this all up, we could find out what each stone symbolises- they might not symbolise good, evil etc. at all! They could symbolise the four levels of the Stronghold! Now, what if the WOM were to visit the Stronghold of Security? He might remember the various monsters that dwell within, and if he gets summoning, he might just use those particular monsters. Just think- an army of Ankou's would be near unstoppable. Of course, still doesn't explain much about the stones... unless those four stones do symbolise the summoning runes, and each one may be used to summon a certain monster from each level e.g. a Pestilence Rune will summon a Catablepon, giant spider etc.

Dragon Slayer (Done, feel free to lock)
Well, that was actually much easier than I thought... Had a little trouble at the start of the fight, but after getting her past half health she got really weak- to end her misery I drank two doses of strength potion and killed her relatively quickly. Thanks for all the support guys- couldn't have done it without you! Mods, feel free to lock, as the questions have been answered.

Dragon Slayer (Done, feel free to lock)
I think I'll buy one anyway, just to be safe. Thanks again. And thanks again. :D Well, my questions have been basically answered, so I might as well have a go. I'll get back to you shortly on how it went (just in case I died and needed a new strategy).

Dragon Slayer (Done, feel free to lock)
Thanks! Hmmm, so it's not magic based? I must be reading the wrong guides... thanks for that. I'll bear it in mind for the future. Also, out of interest, where can I buy strength potions from players (preferably not too far away from Draynor)? Fight her without that shield? Uhhh... :uhh: Thanks for the help (and the good luck!).

Dragon Slayer (Done, feel free to lock)
Well, I've decided to go over to Crandor and slay the beast. Problem is, I'm not sure if I'm able to do it or what is the best method for killing Elvarg. Hopefully the geniuses of Tip.It will be able to help me out. Remember though- I've already got all the map pieces, I just need help with Mademoiselle Elvarg. First off, do you think I'll stand a good chance? Here are my combat statistics: Attack- 45 Strength- 49 Defence- 45 Hitpoints- 47 Nothing special, but will it be enough? As you can see, I'm going to melee her (bringing plenty of lobsters, of course). My second question is, what would be the best clothing to wear when I'm fighting Elvarg? Since her attacks are magic based, I presumed that it would be best to wear some sort of mage gear, however after a quick search of the forums, people seem to recommend some sort of armour. Sorry to be a bit stupid about this, but it's better to be safe than sorry. I guess. :D Thanks in advance for any help.

God staff - which staff has what specials attacks?
Flames of Zamorak lowers the opponents Magic level. Saradomin Strike lowers the opponents Prayer level. Claws of Guthix lowers the opponents Defence level (not quite sure about that one).

Zaros. He makes rather intelligent discussions, even though he is now reduced to the pathetic form of a cat.

Investigating the Wise Old Man
Well, it sounds alright to me. It should go smoothly if carried out. When we have all come to a decision, then probably. Who knows- some casual viewer may stop to look at the current theories circulating around this thread and spot these WOM meetings, then might be interested in joining. I'm sure you won't be forced to wear a uniform, Xewleer.

best place to 'fail curse'
Well, as far as free to play goes, I'd say Varrock Sewers.

Investigating the Wise Old Man
Well, if I can massacre enough wizards for the Water Talisman by the time of the first meeting, then sure! It's a big enough area, close to Draynor as you said... perfect. Providing that you don't mind, then that would be great. This way, nobody misses out on meetings. Yes, spam is bad. Keeping it down to a few people would be necessary. I'm not usually one for structure, but if you would think it's a good idea to have some form of leadership to keep us on track, I think we should keep it democratic and vote for whomever wants the mantle of responsibilty. We could probably make some guidelines for meeting etiquette, if we see it necessary. For the amount of people, how about just the posters in this thread, and anyone we wish to invite e.g. people on our friends list? As for leadership, I think you should do it- not only did you bring the joy of this thread to us, you are also a Player Moderator, therefore you would easily stand out in meetings. And as for meeting etiquette, first and foremost Jagex rules will still apply, will they not? Well, it is memorable, and makes sense. :P It's catchy. I like it.

Investigating the Wise Old Man
In other words, keep it small and friendly? However, if only a few people spam, we wouldn't have to put public chat on friends as we could just add them to our ignore lists. And about advertising- I think we should just confine it to Tip.It only, or if you prefer, just this thread. I might not be available all the time either. How about we have one meeting to see how it goes? If it went bad, we trash it. If it was good, we continue with it. I'm not so keen on using a clan uniform, so I was thinking something a bit more simple. Maybe a black cape, black priest top and bottom, and a black wizard hat?

Natas Mai. It's 'I am Satan' spelt backwards. Hmm... I'd love it if I could see some anagrams in usernames, though.

Investigating the Wise Old Man
Maybe upstairs, so he doesn't listen in on our conversations? :P I like the idea about having a meeting before TET events. Well said. Though if someone were to spam this thread, would they not just be banned and their posts deleted? It would make more sense for it to be in a series, due to the fact that we'd firstly have to discover in some way that he was planning all this, then we'd have to devise our own plan to stop him. That would take a long time, due to epicness of this, so I think the only possible way to do this quest would be to put it in a series, such as The Wise Old Man, Part I, II, III etc. or else players would get pretty bored concentrating on one giant quest. Unfortunately, the more I think about it, the more I believe that this quest shall end up being Members, and if KCHughes theory is correct and we do have to fight Zaros and the WOM at some stage, then it just adds to the possibility that it won't be on free worlds. You see, we have two powerful people here- a god and one who is trying to become a god. They would be ultimately supreme to every player on RuneScape, even more so to free players, largely due to the fact we have an obvious lack of extremely strong weapons and armour. Ultimately, Zaros and the WOM would be infuriatingly difficult to kill, maybe even impossible. On the other hand, Members stand a much better chance, as they have much better weapons, armour etc., but it would be a very hard quest all the same. I doubt Jagex want to make something impossible to complete, so, as I've said, it'll more likely be Members. But I'd prefer it to be free, so everyone could get involved, but hey, it's not my choice. EDIT: I type too slow. That sounds great! However, would anyone mind if we made it open to any player, whether Level 3 or Level 126? Oh, and we might need a leader, to organise times, dates etc. - how about KCHughes? Or if he doesn't want/isn't able to do it, maybe we should have a vote?
