Reveal Confessions, Secrets & Regrets...
It's fine if it's a kilt. You'd get weird looks, but if you wore like a legit skirt you're going to get crap pretty much no matter what.

Your phone: is it your property?
If you want to churn your butter instead of buy it from a store, nobody cares. If you take stairs instead of the elevator, people sometimes admire you for being active. If you bike instead of use a car, people understand that you might either be active or are trying to be green. If you don't have a cell phone or a phone at all, people think you are a social misfit. All my friends use cell phones, but if I refused to even own one, do you think that they would be willing to send me letters or walk to my house if they wanted to talk to me? I'm frustrated by the fact that our teleophone technology is less of a luxury and more of an expectation. Hell, a lot of jobs WILL basically require you to have a cell phone. Plus, the philosophical "use" of it demands its use. I don't really know how to say this in a non confusing way...But the purpose of cell phones is basically "In case I am out of the house and people want to talk to me" or "In case I get in a car crash and need to call for asisstance." Basically, you only carry the thing with you because you are afraid of your unknown future. I don't know if I explained that correctly. And I will never have a chip implanted in me for recreational purposes. For medical purposes...maybe? I'm not sure. But thats kind of what I am asking in the thread. I feel like our phones have become our constant companion, and many people WOULD have them implanted in their head if they could. What I am saying is that I feel we are getting a bit too close to this type "reliance" on technology, and I was wondering what other people thought about it. Would YOU get a phone implant? You make a lot of valid points although I think you may be exaggerating about people's reaction to finding out you don't own a phone. From a purely social standpoint I see what you're getting at, but I disagree when you pull business into the equation. If owning a cellphone is more efficient or convenient for your employer, I think they have every right to require it. As for the chip, I think I'd get it if it was something I could turn off whenever I wanted, although I'm not sure I like the idea of being that connected at all time. I'd wait until was available for a few years first for sure before I would buy it though.

Your phone: is it your property?
I still don't understand why you're so against the "social requirement" of owning a cell phone, could you explain that a little better? Will they become acceptable to you once we can communicate instantaneously via a chip implanted into our brain? I can't understand why it's the only piece of technology you have a vendetta against. I do think that we are far to reliant on cell phones and a need to always be able to be in contact with the rest of the world (that's why I like going camping), however it's my opinion that if you're able to drive or go places by yourself often you should own a cell phone.

Where you live ...
96.76% white. Oh hi. Anyways, I like where I live. It's a pretty nice town, about 15k-17k people I'd guess, 13k in 2000. It's been voted into the top 30 best places to live in America by CNN or whatever so I guess people like it. Pretty low crime, most people who get arrested are teens on possession charges and stuff like that so it's not a big deal. Uhh, our high school is really nice, it's like 5 years old now so it's pretty new. It's pretty boring though, not to much to do inside the town, but it's pretty easy to get to places where stuff actually is. Probably pretty expensive to move here now, but my parents bought our house like 25 years ago or something like that. The weather is amazing two out of four seasons, summer is a little hot for my tastes and winter depends on the year. It wasn't bad this year, but there are years where it's below 0(F) for the majority of the winter which isn't very fun in my opinion, but it could be far worse. I live in the older part of town where most of the people in the area have been living there for more than 10-15 years and the houses are mostly 40 years old and older. It's a lot less "neighborhood" than the newer areas. I like where I live because I have woods behind my house that I spent so much time in as a kid. I grew up exploring the area back there, climbing trees, playing in the stream, and other stuff like that. The problem with where I live is that there aren't nearly as many kids my age around and a lot of my friends live in the new developments which are on the other side of town from me. I spent a lot of my time by myself or with my sister which probably is a small part of the reason I'm an introvert compared to people who can walk across the street and be at a friends house.

Your phone: is it your property?
Why is this even a question? A cell phone is useful, therefore I have one. If it didn't have a use I wouldn't have one. As for becoming integrated into society as a sort of "necessity", the same argument could be applied to almost every piece of technology. You could just walk everywhere instead of owning a car, but I'm sure you'd agree that in most parts of the world a car is certainly worth the cost. There's no need for the internet, you could use books for research and send people letters, but that takes a lot longer to accomplish what would be an otherwise simple task. Society trends towards doing everything as fast as possible and technology is making the need for instantaneous results more and more accessible. Whether that's a good or bad thing doesn't matter, it can't be stopped or avoided.

Hip Hop & Rap
It's a pretty good album. The songs average almost 5 minutes though, which makes it a little difficult to listen to. Overall I'd give it maybe a 7/10 but there were some songs that I really liked. I'll probably listen to it again tomorrow since it's 2am now.

Could YOU eat and drink NOTHING for 30 years?
Maybe he uses feeding tubes of some sort. He technically would be telling the truth if that was the case. It seems very unlikely though.

[hide=It's big...] [/hide] Buy me a penguin suit and get to me in a week and I'll do it. Anyways, right now I'm looking at a pretty basic two button notch lapel jacket with a white point collar shirt and black or charcoal/pewter vest. Not sure on tie vs bow-tie right now. Oh well, it doesn't really make a difference either way. If anyone who isn't abc has suggestions I'd like to hear them though.

kid gets detention for eating a jolly rancher
Excellent post. It's funny too, it seems no one cares about rulebreakers until they get unjustly punished for something. All we're trying to do is stop that practice. There are things that are worth fighting back against. Some kid getting an unfair detention isn't one. There are much worse atrocities that are committed every second around the world that no one does anything about it yet people are outraged about this. Poor kid probably had to sit quietly for a half hour, how will she cope? I mean genocide pales in comparison to sitting in a safe environment for that long. Sorry about the douchey sarcasm in advance, It's not that we're blindly following rules simply because they're rules, it's just that you need to pick and choose your battles and this one barely harms anyone and therefore isn't worth the attention and effort required.

Schools confiscating students' property
You give up a lot of your rights by entering a school. It's taken too far in some places sure. In my school, no one really cares. I forget that the policies are a lot laxer here than many other places. Minus possibly laser pointers all the things you mentioned are fine at my school and the dress code basically requires you to be wearing a pretty minimal amount of clothing.

Real life help & advice
16 would only make him a year to two years younger than the rest of his class, that's not too bad in my opinion. It's not like th 12 year old my sister had in her calc class or something like that.

Schools confiscating students' property
Yeah, I'm not surprised they took it away. Normally they make a parent come pick it up or something at my school, but they have no obligation to give it back as far as I know.

Caffeine!
Lighter roasts have higher caffeine content, so you're probably just sensitive. I drink far too much coke. Other than that I drink about a gallon of Arizona Sweet Tea a week and will occasionally have a cup of coffee.
