  1. Am I the only one who finds it really funny that people think the longevity of Runescape lies with servers that will never receive any updates of any description without the express approval of a bunch of whiny PKers and hardcore nostalgia purists? Even if I had any interest in 2007 before, the rest of the player base I've seen talking about it would turn me off entirely.
  2. When was magic ever dominant? The only way you could ever compete with the best melee weapons using magic was with full virtus, wolpertingers and Storm of Armadyl. Other than that, magic might have been usable or even powerful, but it was by no means dominant except for maybe very short time periods before melee got a new weapon that obliterated the previous magic strategy. I agree, though, that suggesting EoC fixed the combat triangle is laughable. What we have now, in pre-EoC terms, is Storm of Armadyl changed to Fire Surge but dealing 5 more damage, the Chaotic Maul hitting at dart speed with a +600 strength bonus and a new whip that hits at twice the speed and ignores any and all defence. EDIT to add that on the plus side, EoC has made it vastly easier for jagex to fix these flaws. Before, they needed to balance everything really carefully and come up with niche special attacks. Now, all they need to do is tweak a couple of numbers.
  3. I found Sunfreet pretty easy with Ahrim's and an Armadyl Battlestaff. I don't know how well range performs; if it's similarly accurate, it's probably the better choice.
  4. I know how to use magic... ability stacking and whatnot. Momentum is decent, but can't possibly compete with the maul hitting 4000+ with each ability. Ice barrage can do it very rarely, but only because it's currently subject to two separate bugs that make it dramatically more powerful than it should be and that I'm sure will get fixed at some point. (It doesn't get its damage reduced by wands, so you can spam full-power barrages twice as fast as you should be able to, and its stun triggers on all attacks made by it, not just autoattacks.) The real issue here is that ability damage and cooldown is not being scaled to weapon speed as it ought to be. 2h melee and ranged weapons benefit from this; 2h magic weapons do not.

The combat triangle is a complete [bleep]ing joke. Even more so than before EoC, despite Jagex's patheitc attempts to balance it. Magic can barely hit 1k with abilities except for a pithy ultimate that hits 3k if you're really lucky and is incredibly slow, range gets an overpowered stun and can compete a bit better, and melee? Well, melee is, as always, strictly the best class for everything. There are no conditions on that statement. It's the best for glacors, a boss which was specifically designed for magic to be the best. I've heard of people using it effectively at ganodermic beasts, which have a 90% damage reduction on melee attacks or something stupid. They have the only level 90 weapons, which are so accurate that nothing in the game is even sliightly effective at defending against them even with the maximum accuracy penalty for wearing offclass armour/ And what has Jagex said? They want to make drygores EVEN MORE POWERFUL. Why? To compete with the chaotic maul. The [bleep]ing chaotic maul. Which utterly decimates anything not flatly immune to melee. Which is so overpowered that I can go into a duel wearing maxed melee defense gear and using magic against an opponent with a chaotic maul and NO ARMOUR and still consistently lose in about 3 seconds. Which has single-handedly destroyed this game with how much it utterly craps on everything. What were Jagex thinking? Who could possibly think that a weapon which hits constant near-unblockable 4000 hits faster than dart speed and has abilities that can do everything short of smash the opponent's computer into a cup of coffee for you to drink (and even then it's only time) is even remotely close to balanced? Why is weapon ability cooldown? After getting crashed at Saradomin GWD by a mauler whose damage output was something like six times as high as mine (and I have the best magic gear in the game), I feel like they should just bring this to its logical conclusion and give the maul a special ability which smashes the opponent half a mile in the air and instakills them, Skyrim giant style. How long before melee is considered unequivocally the best class for Armadyl GWD?
  6. Yeah, "technically you can't prove it, neener neener" is totally watertight. It's been confirmed by J Mods. What more do you want? Yeah, "technically you can't prove it, neener neener" is totally watertight. It's been confirmed by J Mods. What more do you want? Proof. Would you then like me to prove that that proof is authentic? Then prove that proof? Or shall I cut to the part where you expect me to prove the concept of proof itself?
  7. Yeah, "technically you can't prove it, neener neener" is totally watertight. It's been confirmed by J Mods. What more do you want? ETA: Notice how the main issue was completely ignored instead of strawmanning a borderline side point as the main complaint YET AGAIN.
  8. I don't have a problem with this generally being delayed, and no announced reason is usually tolerated. I think the first complaint is the real biggie here, and you're doing the point a disservice by playing it down. It's not the end of the world or anything but it leaves a really bitter taste in my mouth about an update that was already obtrusive just by the loudmouths who wouldn't shut up about it
  9. And other people, it appears don't even pretend to read the discussions they are part of, and instead regurgitate the same unsubstantiated nonsense all day. What part of they "lied to us, faileed to uphold a promis, and with callous disregard ignored hundreds of complaints without any explanation what-so-ever" is difficult for you to understand? What expression or term in that so-complex sentence do you have trouble understanding? It's almost as if you are trolling and aren't even trying anymore (if you ever were). Please, show me this promise. Why bother? You didn't pay attention the first 10 times.
  10. It doesn't help that those upset about the quest delay have tried being reasonable and not only has nobody responded to our complaint properly, but almost nobody trying to respond has shown any understanding whatsoever of what that complaint even is, instead choosing to strawman us despite the complaint having been spelled out like 80 million times.
  11. Anyone else wondering if they want this to be a farce just so they can tell the whiners "we told you so"? Doesn't excuse it, but if so I have some level of sympathy.
  12. No, but how many more updates are going to be that little bit worse because half the staff are too busy giving a bunch of incessant crybabies their own exclusive playground?
  13. Because Jagex has actually been getting somewhat better with this stuff recently. That's not a high bar, but it's there.
  14. Well, I was just getting seriously interested in the game again, so they had to do *something* to ensure that I remembered why they suck at running this game.
  15. Thanks. I wasn't sure about the DPS thing. :) Yeah, this is rather important since I do own a set of virtus. It's common sense, but is it confirmed that this is actually how it works? Do we know for a fact that the 74 extra damage is applied after the 50% staff multiplier rather than before?
  16. I'm well aware that this is the third thread I've made in herre in a week, sorry. But I can't seem to find anyone who actually knows what they're talking about anywhere other than here. Is a wand/book setup better or worse in general than a staff of the same tier? In particular, what are the advantages and disadvantages of using a virtus wand and book over a chaotic staff, disregarding cost? I'd appreciate in-depth answers as opposed to a simple yes/no.
  17. I can't do QBD anyway -- I don't have the reflexes for it. I'm lucky if I can get one kill done in 15 minutes with a full inventory plus unicorn, and I often just die because I reacted to an attack 0.01 seconds too late and she depletes my entire health bar pretty much instantly. She's easily more dangerous than Nex (who I'd like to try properly, but have found no team willing to accept anyone without 99 in everything and full Torva/drygores). I'll give Saradomin a shot, and if that doesn't work I'll just stick to Bandos. Thanks. :)
  18. I'm looking to make 100m, and I think God Wars is probably the fastest way to do it. Which boss would be most profitable to solo as a mage? I know Zamorak is the easiest, but I've got full virtus, so I can tank Bandos's melee and stay there pretty much indefinitely -- I'm pretty sure Graardor's loot is better than K'ril's. I don't know how much harder Sara is, since I haven't tried to solo there yet, but I'm guessing it's a similar story. So which one of those it's viable to mage gives the best loot, on average?
  19. I'm using DirectX. Octarine, thanks, I didn't know about the grave timer thing.
  20. If you don't have 99 in everything relevant to combat and enough cash for full Torva and twin Drygores, forget about Nex.

You know, when you go to certain areas and the game shifts to a weird cutcene-like perspective where you can't interact with any of the scenery? SO annoying, especially next to the Wilderness wall. Is there any need for it? Does random zoom-ins of my character walking through certain areas I can't interact with (but where monsters etc can still attack me) enhance the game in any way? Is running through some tiny 6x6 square such an epic gesture? EDIT: As I was typing this, I died because I wasn't paying attention at LRC. And I had to open my gravestone from several squares away, because at the square it was on, I couldn't interact with it because of this zoom-in feature. I can't loot my grave, but OMG I DON'T CARE BECAUSE THE CAMERA IS SLIGHTLY CLOSER THAN NORMAL OMG IT'S LIKE I'M REALLY THERE.
  22. In response to how much whining on the forums about the Quest Cape requirement being raised by something like 25 levels? The original requirement was viewed as unreasonable for similar reasons to why an unannounced 90 strength and 90 prayer requirement on one of the most hyped quests of all time would be poorly received, even if only for "full completion". Have any of these requirements been in the same ballpark as two 90+ skills, one of which overwrites an 80 skill requirement that has been explicitly confirmed? (In before someone finds a hyper-pedantic way to argue that that's not confirmed either.) I shouldn't even need to explain why this is different. And, notably, did not include a multitude of 90+ skill requirements, and DID include an 80 skill requirement which this content would make redundant. This is the sort of quest where people are likely to consider "fully completing the quest" to be the bulk of the quest. I'd be very surprised if all those requirements are just for two or three dialogue boxes at the end. If 90 strength and 90 prayer were required for full completion, Jagex would probably have said so, either when the quest was announced or when the teaser content came out. I think that's common sense -- maybe I'm giving Jagex too much credit. OK, you got me. It's not confirmed. It's also not confirmed that there won't be a door containing all the good post-quest rewards that can only be opened by sacrificing a full inventory of trimmed completionist capes and bribing a guard with 100 piles of max cash three times, each while wearing a different set of POP armour. I suppose that's also a reasonable suggestion.
  23. Confirmed by the list of full requirements that we won't need to. I wouldn't say it's been confirmed at all. Is there any precedent for requirements not in the game yet? I think awakening Koschei will be a requirement. I don't think Jagex will be big enough [wagon] to slap a 90 Prayer and 90 Strength requirement onto a highly anticipated quest without warning. If they do, the official forums will explode with ranters and the decision will be reversed almost immediately. EDIT: Also, Blood Runs Deep isn't listed as a requirement.
  24. Confirmed by the list of full requirements that we won't need to.
  25. [hide=no] Nope, tried all combos, using items on him, gem on items etc... It might be a post-quest reward? [/hide]
