  1. So now the question arises: Would you buy the ticket even if you have no intention to attend, just to get the e-banner? Sadly, some people will. Even more sadly, I don't put it past Jagex to have done this purely in order to sell tickets - fully well knowing people could buy tickets without intending to show up.
  2. I, for one, will be hugely disappointed if Jagex goes down this road. It's a real-world event, shell out some promotional money & come up with a commemorative real-world item. Surely there is some non-clothing or one-size-fits-all item that you can come up with as a memento. Giving out limited edition pixels for expensive real-world events not only sets a bad precedent, it also comes across as cheap & stingy.
  3. Alternative history novels can be a good read. The Years of Rice and Salt is a good one. If this sort of fiction really interests you, here's a broad article on the subject.
  4. The Flying J should spend some money on a real world, limited edition souvenir - like a fancy tankard / stein or perhaps some clothing items. Or maybe a CD version of the game soundtrack.
  5. I used to believe this. I have found that making 1 combat familiar is invaluable - especially when the boss you are after switches protection prayers. If you pick a familiar with a different attack style than your own, you can rock. I high alch / sell the greens, crimsons & golds. But I make familiars with the blues. YMMV.
  6. The last 10 songs in the Hump Day iTunes shuffle: Steely Dan - FM Van Morrison - Astral Weeks Van Morrison - Cleaning Windows Janet Jackson - Escapade Jackson Browne - Nothing But Time Alanis Moriseette - Thank U Electric Light Orchestra - Rockaria! The Everly Brothers - On the Wings of a Nightingale The Saturday Knights - Dog Park Bruce Hornsby & The Range - On The Western Skyline
  7. Or chlorophyll or meat... I think the point is that we expect aliens to be friendly explorers, when it's just as likely they are harvesters. Listening for messages via SETI is harmless. It's the transmitting of messages that could be harmful - and we've been unintentionally doing that for years via TV & radio signals.
  8. Back when I was doing these, the advent of a new star meant the disappearance of the old one, whether finished or not. I am rather sure there was no buffer time in between. There can be only one.
  9. The idea of colonizing aliens goes way back before Independence Day. Try reading David Gerrold's Chtorr series for a real gut-check. Imagine a multi-generational ship bringing aliens + their equivalent of crops & livestock. They aren't coming to blow up the White House - they are coming to start a new ecosystem. And the only way you fit into this new ecosystem is as an appetizer.
  10. Yep, I think salve eels were over 200 xp in thebeginning; Just another example of just how poorly integrated Dung is to the rest of the game. Many pages ago, training of the other skills was one of the cool points about Dung. HA FREAKING HA. The developers keep finding new ways to distance Dung from the rest of RS. I fully expect all the runes to be renamed in Dung 2.0, and for any skill you train in the hole other that Dung to give negative XP. /sarcasm
  11. Correction - The mime puzzle with pressure pads is one per person. If you are soloing from the start, there is one statue to mime.
  12. I didn't specify whether it was an Internet issue or a Java issue or something else, FWIW. I laid no blame. I just stated what I get from the client - splattered by rain & hit 3 & 4 times before I can flee. Hence, I must cure / prevent. I see a lot of screen caps where people are playing in low-res mode... perhaps that is a route I will try in the future.
  13. By the time I can move, I've already been hit 3 or 4 times. Multiply that by the number of specials and I don't stand a chance without a super anti. <_< It doesn't protect against all of his spew, but it does nullify miasma for the length of the fight. So at least I have a fighting chance. I eventually get him after 2 or 3 deaths with normal antis from the store.
  14. I've never killed him on the first effort without a strong antipoison (not the cheapies they sell in the shop). YMMV. And I was also explicit in stating that I went through casing the rooms for resources, not making things willy-nilly. Sometimes, I smith armor. Sometimes, I stitch hides. Sometimes, I make pots. But I always go through to see who the boss is before I decide strategy. Regarding the skills we already get rocks for - because you can't take anything in or out of the hole except your ring. Regarding why there aren't specific Dung rocks - well, the Statue precedes Dung by a few weeks so I don't see why they would go back and retrofit it to include a pair of Dung rocks.
  15. One of the most damning faults is that you can't do Dung in a lunch break. Once you go down in the hole, you are there for 45 minutes to an hour, if you are thorough and go to each room. I find myself going all over to the place to scrounge for strong antipoisons for Harlaak the Riftsplitter, or hides or any thing else. I literally make one pass through to see what's there, find the boss and decide whether to smith those ores into armor or arrowheads, etc. al. Any of the true skills in the game, I can pop in for 20 to 30 minutes easy and hit a lick. Not so with Dung. This is yet another feature that makes it more akin to a diversion (a la Fight Caves) than a skill.
  16. What many of you seem to want is a Jagex-run store where you can go and always buy x amount of widgets @ a fixed price. Or perhaps the RS equivalent of price-fixing. If you limit the amount of money people can make by selling widgets, then people will stop producing widgets (or only produce what they themselves need) and you still won't be able to get your precious widgets through the GE. IOW, suck it up, get off your backside and go gather your own widgets. As for clans advertising in the GE public space, I agree that Jagex could take a more active stance against auto-typers. But anyone who really wants to form a merch clan can use an external chat app to do their business anyways. So while you could clean up the GE, I doubt you could do anything about the clans themselves.
  17. I'd like to see a modification of the XP counter - a way to focus it on one specific skill. I get palpitations as I go through Dung, watching the XP mount up. I get sorely let down when I get to the end and see that only a sliver of all that XP is actual Dung XP. I'd like to be able to target that counter on 1 specific skill.
  18. Tuna & lobster are already gained en masse by doing mtk: so I doubt they change a lot. Lobster price might drop though! I think you mean tuna & swordies from MTK.
  19. I always get a chuckle out of those dinocows getting their heads chopped off. But it was days before I figured out to trap them instead of kill them.
  20. Can you imagine if they had applied the same methodology to evil trees? It could have been a skill named Malumarboretum. The Taverly Druids could have found a hidden passage under Guthixhenge leading to underground caverns full of tormented, malevolent trees from the Old Wood. We could have seen experience tiers determining which trees could be chopped. We could have had a cape for it! By golly, it would have been a real bonafide skill and not a diversion.
  21. Throwing a bone to the free players - I like it.
  22. 'The last 10 songs in the Hump Day iTunes shuffle: Prince - The Sacrifice of Victor Paul McCartney & Wings - No Words Planet P - Why Me? Mathew Leutwyler - Lazy The Beatles - I'm Looking Through You Passion Pit - The Reeling Supertramp - Cannonball George Harrison - Isn't It A Pity? The KLF w/ Tammy Wynette - Justified and Ancient (Stand By The JAMS) (12" version) Shania Twain w/ Billy Currington - Party For Two (Country Version with Intro)
  23. The Holy Wrench is worth a slot (if you have it).
  24. Well, some people like to record TV shows & movies OTA & author their own discs. DVD media is not practical for doing that with HDTV. Most movies I capture in HD are between 20 & 30 GB in size.
  25. I'd for sure get the read only Blu-Ray drive. Who knows when you'll be on the road or a plane and wanting to watch something? And it should suffice for all your old DVDs. I am not as enthusiastic about a Blu-Ray burner. Would you trust it for backup purposes? Planning to record HDTV streams and wanting to burn them?
