I will pick them up if they are large enough. I don't hit all the little < 100 drops, but if it's a sizable pile, I'll scoop it up. They stack, and I usually have coins from high alching anyways. FWIW, I pick up pennies in real life also. Aside: this would be a nice addition for Dung 2.0 - a coin magnet or piggy bank that would automagically pick up coin drops. Sort of like the bonecrusher, but for coins.

I don't see what good EDM Day does. Now If I were an artist, and I wanted to paint a picture of Muhammad delivering the Farewell Sermon or marching on Mecca, I'd do so. I'm not Muslim and not bound by its mores. Art & religion have been intertwined throughout history. Sculpture, paintings, etc. teach us a lot about cultures and religions from long ago. But this EDM Day has very little to do with art & culture and a lot to do with waving a red flag at people for the hell of it. No thank you.

Relativism. Gotta love it. I looked at Qeltar's stats, BTW and he's 99 in the stats that matter, as I am. So comparing my rates to his is really not so apples-and-oranges after all. And he got about 1700 more xp an hour with a ZS as I got with d baxe + rune def. But dayam that animation looks good. :razz: Thanks. As I said myself, thanks for acknowledging. Loan me one for 2 hours? BTW, Qeltar tested for 20 minutes each setup to come up with his report figures. And I was loafing - drafting my forum post, picking up every water rune, etc. I could have bumped mine up a bit had I been super-focused. But hey - at least the spear looks good. The perfect accessory for pixel huggers who have money to blow on style.

OK, I've taken my 1 hour sample at waterfiends using this setup: I walked out with 74 charms of various colors, so I killed at least 74 fiends. Raw XP, 60 mins: 52401 subtract 5 high alchs @ 65: 325 Refined XP per hour: 52076 per hour This was normal killing, no slayer XP involved & also no full slayer helm bonus. I used the d baxe special and protect from range, no overloads. Max hit calc shows 369. Now I admit, comparing my rate to Qeltar's is like comparing apples to oranges - I don't know his stats when he wrote his report. A truer comparison would require me to borrow a spear and test for an hour. If I have time later, I may. But the evidence points to ZS being really no better than a d baxe + rune def. The vaunted ZS speed is being equalized by other factors and the XP rates are not substantially different, at least at waterfiends. The cold hard truth. Next test: aquanites

Thank you [all three] for your detailed responses. It beats hell out of the RS version of this. I am going later and doing a 1 hr sample at both aquanites & waterfiends using my low-budget gear. I will edit this post when I get it done.

Um, I know what damage per second is. What I want you guys to do is support your claims. All it boils down to so far is argumentum ad verecundiam. Not a one of you has shown any number, guide or anything to back it up. It's just because you all say so - back it up. Not a single one of you has provided so much as an XP per hour rate to back up what you are claiming. It's not my job to back up your claims - I dispute them. That's the way the world works. :wink:

All the numbers point to ZS being a high priced extravagance with little to no real advantage (scroll up). I made my claim and supported it. You, on the other hand... still waiting. I'm betting you all read the same guide and blindly followed it... or have a financial interest in keeping the perceived value of the spear high.

Cite? It's easy to say "shown to be much better" or "ignore the stupid posts" without backup. Who has show it? Where are your numbers? It seems a lot like you are all reading the same guide or listening to the same advice without actually checking for yourselves.

OK now I'll elaborate. My scenario for LBS+rune def is vs. aquanites, where a high stab is advantageous. A zammy spear is often suggested against those. My scenario for DBA+ rune def is vs. waterfiends, where high crush is advantageous. A zammy spear is often suggested against those as well. Two different scenarios for which the spear is commonly recommended. I just do not buy into the notion that the speed of the zammy spear is particularly worth the money in either case.

Divide it by 10 if it makes you feel better - it's not about 3-digit numbers. My max hits with rune def combos are 10% higher than with a zammy spear. There. Feel better now? You should elaborate.

Addressing the speed comments: I prefer the higher max hits I get with defender combos.

If you are going to stab with it, you can use a leaf-bladed sword + rune def and get a higher stab bonus. If you are going to crush with it, the Dragon Battleaxe has the same crush bonus & leaves you one hand free for a shield or defender (dragon baxe + rune def = 83 crush!). That shoots holes in the waterfiends argument. If you intend to slash with it, even the rune halberd has a higher slash bonus. But don't take my word for it; here's the sortable cold hard truth. You can't poison it, so there's no advantage there. The only reason you could possibly want one is if you were going to switch attack styles on NPCs in one run. Or if you were buying one for looks.

How soon we forget. To steer this back to the original post, I would have to say that from a budgetary position, certain things are sacrosanct: (1) Providing for the common defense (i.e. the military) (2) Social Security (until it would be phased out) (3) Infrastructure (highways, telecom, airports, etc). (4) Paying down the debt Foreign aid would be in the sheet of 200 I proposed earlier. If people want to go above and beyond that, there are charitable organizations that can do that outside of the government umbrella.

Consider this: Along with your yearly 1040, you get to vote for which programs you would like to see receive funding. From a list of maybe 200, you might choose your 15 favorites. The surplus tax pie (after paying down the national debt) could then be divided up according to the results of the tally. For example, if 3.6% of the votes went to "undersea exploration" then 3.6% of the budget surplus would go to that group of programs.

Pardon my thread necromancy, but this is a problem I have had to solve tonight. I'm tacking this on for anyone who searches this out in the future (including my own absent-minded self). You want to: (1) wear dragonhides (2) get your stab bonus as high as possible (3) take a bunyip with swallow whole scrolls People recommend the zammy spear a lot, but a leaf-bladed sword + rune defender combo will get you +2 more on the stab attack number and is a helluva lot cheaper. Also, the ardy cloak gives stab attack bonuses. I find that this setup lets me kill aquanites without using prayer.

Can you update the codecs on things like that? That's one advantage a Media PC would have over something like that in my opinion. I have no idea - I've never used one (or any of its competitors).

I want to confirm that you can get herblore stones while cleaning herbs. I just got one on top of the Troll Stronghold while cleaning freshly picked ranarr. This may be old news, but the activities guide does not mention it.
