  1. I would not play again, and it has nothing to do with a perceived waste of time or money. If it had not been RS, it certainly would have been some other diversion. But I certainly could have chosen a better diversion than RS - and knowing how things stand here in 2012, I would have chosen something altogether different.

  4. While I admire your sentiment, there are much more practical things you could be doing. If you are in the United States, you should be contacting the Secretary of State for your individual state (not the US Secretary of State). This is the department that handles gaming / gambling for your state. In my state, the gambling laws apply to lotteries, chain or pyramid clubs, numbers, pinball, poker or any as yet unnamed scheme where value is risked for profit. The suits at Insight are playing with weasel words and gambling that you guys are not savvy enough to call them to task. Call their bluff; contact your state Secretary of State and bring RuneScape to their attention. Just fire off an email and ask your local Secretary of State if the SoF violates local gaming laws. Let your legislators do the heavy lifting. Quick ref: http://www.gambling-law-us.com/State-Law-Summary/

  6. This will open quite a can of worms stateside, as the fifty states have differing laws regarding pay-to-play contests. For example, ESPN operates pay-to-win fantasy sports leagues where the league members pay to join. ESPN skims a fee off of the pot and the league winners get prizes at the end of the season. Fantasy sports is clearly not gambling, as there is a substantial skill element involved. However, this sort of business is prohibited in a handful of states. I would expect no different treatment for the pay-to-win component of SoF. I am disappointed, but not surprised by this latest cash grab gimmick.

  13. +1, especially about the lore part. This is just a poor a fit as the game show random event. I doubt it will encourage me to log in every day, let alone resubscribe.
  14. Its an interesting notion, but at this point in RuneScapes lifespan I am skeptical of there ever being any significant inflow of new members, or even new players. For every one who is coming in through the turnstiles, there is a pissed off veteran going out in the opposite direction. Jagex had a great niche game unlike any other MMO and frittered it away trying to be like all the other MMOs.

  17. They should have found a way to monetize the process. For example: Charge people $10 to change a name and guarantee that name will be theirs for as long as RuneScape exists. Allow people to forever lock their present names for the same $10. For those too chintzy to pay $10, allow protection from a name being reappropriated as long as one logs at least once every 2 months and accumulates some reasonable amount of XP. The only grandfathering should be for dead people (no new Old Nite or such).

  19. (1) No matter how cheap the flash drive actually is, if your order is under $25 USD, you will also have to pay shipping. (2) Regardless of where the client is located, the cache is located in: {BOOT DRIVE}:\WINDOWS\.jagex_cache_32 . I doubt library users (or their software) will have permission to create subdirectories under \WINDOWS.
  20. I really think they are past that point. The changes now are more about keeping the people who are still playing rather than attracting any new players.

  24. Ill be interested to see how much of a bump up the members population takes. If this doesnt drag prior members back to paying status, I cant imagine what would.
  25. Time to pick nits: The house has not been seized. The Brothers Snellman still own it. They have until 31 December 2012 to raise the money to pay the judgment awarded in the court case. If, at that time, they cant pay the judgment, Jagex gets the house. But if they raise the judgment money and pay it before that 31 December 2012 deadline, the lien goes away.
