  1. This makes me sad. Perhaps the Christmas Culture Wars are a uniquely American phenomenon. FWIW, I say Happy Holidays and let people take that in whatever way they want it, whether they decorate trees, light חַנֻכִּיָּה‎ or kinaras or what have you. I did not do the event, but I walked around and looked at the decorations scattered around. I thought they were nicely done and in good taste.

  4. I think people need to grow up and move on and accept it. That or leave. It's up to them. Or you could just learn to ignore them: Your Options ---> Profile ---> Manage Ignored Users Nobody is making you read these dissident voices but yourself.

  6. If they had never, ever added another thing to the free game, I would have said they were justified. But actually taking things away from the free game is sheer asshattery. It reeks of desperation. They might convert a few accounts to members, but they'll be torching their built-up pile of goodwill to accomplish it.
  7. Holiday events have had members only items/parts for what, 4 or 5 years now? It's nothing new. Just more complaining from the usual suspects for no good reason. Only since the start of this year actually with the Wintumber Tree in 2006 is the only exception unless I'm mistaken. You are indeed correct.
  8. Unless you wipe out your Java Certificate revocation and cache files and set Java to provide you with a prompt for Signed Code. Unluckily, I don't know all the ins/outs to that one, and only picked up on it in passing on the RSOF. Good luck trying that route, unless you don't have the permissions to go that way for some reason. :geek: ~D. V. "No idea what situation you're in?" Devnull Here is a series of screenies which show my Java Control Panel options. I am not suggesting that anyone go make changes willy-nilly to their settings. I am posting this as an illustration of settings that work. Perhaps by comparing settings, it can be determined what the root cause of the error is. FWIW, my Java Cache (not to be confused with browser cache) has Jagex leavings dating back to mid 2010, and 4 different security certificates dating back to 2004.
  9. The last 10 songs in the Hump Day iTunes shuffle: Natalia Kills - Wonderland Outrageous Cherry - Get Out While You Can Setting Sun - Make You Feel` Daryl Hall - I Wasnt Born Yesterday Electric Light Orchestra - 21st Century Man The Triffids - A Trick of the Light Brick - Dazz Janet Jackson - Rhythm Nation Talking Heads - Heaven Sam & Ruby - This I Know
  10. Yes, Jagex is no-longer providing an unsigned version of the RuneScape Java Applet, ever since the ClusterFlutterer update. On the bright side, most of the bots got nuked out of existence/functionality. Unluckily, most of the latest problems have been since the Dominion Tower and latest update releases. I'm really not surprised that you're having issues, as it seems like Jagex doesn't check their code sanity completely. :geek: ~D. V. "Good luck fixing that one..." Devnull They no longer provide unsigned versions, but if you still have them laying around they will work. Please note the titlebar.
  11. I am still using 1.0.0.1 (85.5 KB). I even turned on Bloom yesterday and watched the pretty campfires in the GE.
  12. Meh to all the choices. They should just take an antipodal approach and have the thing in New Zealand. They could capitalize on the Middle Earth tourism industry down there and have a blowout festival.
  13. I have a question about the downloadable client. My question is: why is Jagex offering their 22.5 MB client, when the old 85.5 KB works just as well? There seems to be no difference in performance, at least none that I can find.
  14. That is an astute observation. When I first saw the logo, I was immediately reminded of Star Treks Terran Empire. And the more I think about it, the better it fits.
  15. Its the ending part that is significant. Usually phishers set up in the co.cc domain. Your email is almost certainly a phishing attempt. I wouldnt worry about it unless I had something in my secure Runescape inbox. And I would never click on the links. Common themes: There is a running thread where I (and others) post phishing attempts. Ive gotten 8 more since the last time I posted; I suppose Ill be posting again in the next day or two.
  16. The last 10 songs in the Hump Day iTunes shuffle: Don Henley - Lilah Van Morrison - Youth of 1,000 Summers The Lemonheads - Waiting Around to Die Queen - Princes of the Universe The Benjy Davis Project - Mississippi TPau - Heart and Soul U2 - I Fall Down Electric Light Orchestra - Roll Over Beethoven Nervous Curtains - Accomplice Fiona Apple - Criminal
  17. One interesting tidbit about the website updates: they revealed the URLs of the fonts they are using in one of their stylesheets. You can now download those fonts and make fake screenshots of forum posts to your hearts content. The glyphs are mostly limited to the Basic Latin block of characters. ref: http://www.runescape.com/css/fonts-50.css See? There still is something good to be had from Jagex for free. ;-)
  18. I have seen that mentioned on RSOF by someone in Texas, but I havent found a reason yet as to why it is not available to any location in the USA.
  19. Because nothing says “class” like a goblin drinking a martini. I really don’t care for the new artistic style, but I guess it gives the interns something relatively harmless to do. Imbedded video on the Membership page will certainly send the message to the narrowband players that they are no longer welcome. The high scores cluster[bleep] has already been discussed to death. The client load hangs at 98% (8), so I can’t yet comment on the in-game experience. Meh. It all just reinforces the decision I made 10 months ago. They are no longer marketing a product that I can be interested in.
  20. I think the real (and unstated) reason for the stat trimming is rooted in Jagex bandwidth expenses, which have noticably increased since CF. Less members, more bandwidth... You know all those sig generators & stat widgets have to have a significant impact on their monthly bandwidth. I really dont think there is any nefarious agenda against F2P per se; I think this is simple austerity on Jagex part. Doesnt mean I agree with their decision, though.
  21. The last 10 songs in the Hump Day iTunes shuffle: Boots Electric - Boots Electric Theme Hot Little Hands - Scene of the Crime Nanci Griffith - Drive-In Movies and Dashboard Lights The Grapes of Wrath - Peace of Mind U2 - Tryin to Throw Your Arms Around the World XTC - One of the Millions Wreckx-N-Effect - Rump Shaker (Radio Mix) The Rembrandts - Just the Way It Is, Baby Sugar Ray - Falls Apart Queen - Keep Yourself Alive
  22. saw it coming... Perhaps Jagex saw it coming too. But now Jagex has made a rather emphatic public statement about not wanting this sort of behavior in the game, and modified the game to prevent said behavior. So lets say people just switch to flowers / skullballs / etc. But now Jagex has set a precedent about games of chance and might actually be emboldened to wield the banhammer or take away GP in the future.
  23. Perhaps a better idea would be to have monthly tables for all the skills for newer players and to leave the cumulative score tables unfiltered. That way both camps win. Highlight the up-and-coming players, if you will, with their own tables. I realize that there is no way to this with legacy XP data, so the suggestion would be for this point forward. Just throwing it against the wall to see if it will stick.
  24. Same old Jagex... One step forwards, two steps back.
