  1. In all fairness, I found several other developers asking for votes when I Binged Golden Joystick Awards 2011 voting.
  2. I just checked the Golden Joystick site and they are still taking votes. You still have a chance to get your votes(s) in. For quick reference: http://www.goldenjoystick.com/awards/best-free-to-play
  3. The last 10 songs in the Weekender iTunes shuffle: The Elton John Band - Philadelphia Freedom Prince - Electric Chair (Remix) 10,000 Maniacs - The Painted Desert The Waterboys - Meet Me at the Station Electric Light Orchestra - Time After Time Big Audio Dynamite - Medicine Show The 5th Dimension - Aquarius / Let the Sun Shine In` U2 - Daddys Gonna Pay for Your Crashed Car Ramona Falls - I Say Fever Nomo & Shawn Lee - Upside Down
  4. I suggested something similar on RSOF (and possibly here) several months back. I suggested metered gameplay with a hard limit of time per month, after which the account would be unable to do any more playing until next month. I got hugely flamed with only 1 or 2 supporters. I still like the basic idea of taxing undesirable behavior.
  5. You mean he was on 15-Aug-2011. [qfc]48-49-526-58619734[/qfc], page 174.
  6. You could still send a snapshot of the CAPTCHA to a crowdsourcing platform just like you can with alphanumeric CAPTCHAs, and probably figure out a way to read the results back into a script in short order. It’s not just small-time gold farmers & botters that use crowdsourcing to break CAPTCHAs though. Here’s a recent article from O'Reilly that illustrates criminal uses for CAPTCHA crowdsourcing. These sort of CAPTCHA reading things turn up on Amazon Mechanical Turk from time to time, though more of the people there have begun reporting this sort of thing to Amazon for job cancellation. Because of the more overtly criminal uses of these CAPTCHA breaking schemes, crowdsourcing platforms are more alert to them and terminate them much more readily. The old “sleepwalker” method of third-party validation would be much less likely to work today, and in reality a RuneScape CAPTCHA might be worth trying again. At this point, what really do they have to lose?
  7. The last 10 songs in the Hump Day iTunes shuffle: Secret Cities - The Park Asia - Rock and Roll Dream Big Country - Hold the Heart Bruce Springsteen - Two Faces Electric Light Orchestra - Fire on High The Clash - The Guns of Brixton Genesis - Like It or Not [2007 Remaster] Elvis Costello & The Attractions - Its Time We Are Smug - Never Be the Same Peter Gabriel - The Barry Williams Show
  8. Jagex had a good product a year and a half ago. I didnt end my adventure because I was bored, couldnt afford it or didnt have time anymore; I ended it because I no longer cared for the end product Jagex was marketing. If they rolled everything back to March 2010 and had the foresight to not make the bad decisions they have made since that time, Id re-up in a heartbeat. Not holding my breath for that to happen - but the point I am making is that Jagex changed its product and alienated many of its early adopters. We didnt get tired of playing - we got tired of the goal posts moving. Our adventure ended because Jagex took it away; not because we tired of it.
  9. The last 10 songs in the Hump Day iTunes shuffle: The Jacksons - Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground) Camper Van Beethoven - Change Your Mind Queen - Dead on Time Frederick Fennell / The Cleveland Symphonic Winds - Arnaud: Olympic Theme Mates of State - Palomino Jupiter One - Flaming Arrow David Newman - He Maha Lakshmi U2 - Where the Streets Have No Name Love and Theft - Dont Wake Me The Costello Show featuring The Attractions and Confederates - Jack of All Parades
  10. Today’s phish takes a different approach: “RuneScape invited to join Senior Member” The URL mentions “loyalty points” - a particularly [wagon]ed approach, as I haven’t been P2P since that program started. The phishing URL is in the Tokelau TLD and resolves to http://www.ip2location.com/93.170.52.20 - Alfa Telecom in the Netherlands Originating IP: http://www.ip2location.com/98.139.91.248 - Yahoo Mail
  11. The cynical side of me wants to agree, but I thought the event was already sold out. I fail to see what they can accomplish at a fan convention that will draw a rather small, local subset of the player base. It just smells like shiny, happy, hand-holding PR to me. IOW, what could they find out fron the Londoners at RF that they couldnt find out from people all over the world? Unless they are going to all going to drive down to Geneva and try my Large Hadron Collider suggestion. Meh.
  12. HIMYM had a good night with the ratings; the second episode drew a bigger audience than the first. http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2011/09/20/tv-ratings-opening-monday-two-and-a-half-men-soars-cbs-wins-playboy-club-gloomy-castle-hawaii-five-0-and-more/104221/
  13. Currently in my DVR: How I Met Your Mother 2 Broke Girls Hart of Dixie Hawaii Five-0 NOVA The MIddle The Big Bang Theory Rules of Engagement Stargate Universe Live From the Artists Den 30 Rock The Desert Speaks The occasional NCAA or NFL football game I watched New Girl last night, but it didn’t do anything for me. I’ll watch the Suburgatory pilot next week and decide on the rest of the season.
  14. The last 10 songs in the Hump Day iTunes shuffle: Cheap Trick - High Priest of Rhythmic Noise Bruce Springsteen - Darkness on the Edge of Town Prince - Wonderful Ass Fleetwood Mac - Gold Dust Woman Ohio Players - Fire Nirvana - All Apologies Rush - Red Sector A Say Hi To Your Mom - Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Herbie Hancock - Rockit Billy Joel - We Didnt Start the Fire
  15. Its one of the shows I regularly watch... but it has gotten awfully long in the tooth. The show has been picked up for this season and next; I seriously hope they are going to wrap this show up next year. When I watch the reruns in syndication, the shows seem a lot funnier than they do now. Last year with Zoey was a draaaaaaaaag. And I am pissed that Fox put their piddling 13 episodes of Terra Nova up against it, because Im not switching after 6 seasons of HIMYM.
  16. The last 10 songs in the Hump Day iTunes shuffle: Tom Petty - Depending on You Big Country - Remembrance Day The Head and the Heart - Lost in My Mind Man at Work - Overkill Daryl Hall - I Wasnt Born Yesterday Paul McCartney - Teddy Boy XTC - I Cant Own Her The Police - Walking in Your Footsteps Dave Barnes - Little Lies John Lennon - Imagine
  17. Today's phish leads to a URL in the .cc TLD (Cocos Islands): http://whois.domaintools.com/co.cc It's registered in Gyeonggi-do Province, ROK. As usual, the full headers are too large to paste into Jagex puny 2000-character post window. X-Originating-IP: [218.104.72.98] - You guessed it - Beijing China (using the Hefei City ISP) The return path of the email, oddly enough, leads to an email account tied to this Facebook group: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=116172681727280 Anyone know any Asking Alexandria fans?
  18. Re: Article #1 You would be surprised at just how easy it is to walk away cold turkey. All it takes is a healthy level of disgust with the powers that be. Once you accept that (1) RuneScape is nothing more than an entertainment product and (2) it is senseless to habitually pay for a product you do not enjoy, the decision becomes a slam dunk. The only way Jagex would ever see any of my money again would be to somehow find a way to use the Large Hadron Collider and send a message via Higgs singlet back to mid 2010. That message would detail the mess the game has become and advise on which missteps to avoid. This thread, and the manifold others like it would then become an alternate timeline and disappear and the continuum would be restored. ;-) Unlikely, you say? That's the entire point. The only RuneScape activity I look forward to nowadays is on the 13th of every month, when I update the numbers in my sig.
  19. Hacked, no... but I get a lot more phishing emails than I used to. Today's email originated from Seoul, ROK: 110.45.140.114 The domain that the phishers are directing people to is registered in Beijing, PRC http://whois.domaint...com/axlogin.com I'd forward this to Jagex in its entirety if I had an address. Their phishing reporting topic on RSOF only allows 2000 characters... not enough room to even paste in the complete headers. Nice move there. Most companies just have an email address that you are supposed to forward phishing emails to...
  20. Actually we have a pretty good idea of what landed him on the SOR. He is a guy who transmitted child porn both by electronic means and by postal mail (ref: http://www.tbi.state...x?htid=00411395) POSTAL MAIL. This is not some bad accident or "being in the wrong place at the wrong time." Do you people actually accidentally print off porn and somehow unintentionally slip it into an envelope and mail it? Do you find that sort of excuse to be credible? At this point in the discussion, I seriously wonder if some of you are playing devils advocate, simply trolling or just so damned groomed yourselves that you can't see straight.
  21. I fail to see how cognitive impairment is an acceptable excuse for sexual assault. Am I misunderstanding you?
  22. The last 10 songs in the Hump Day iTunes shuffle: Electric Light Orchestra - Concerto For a Rainy Day [standin In The Rain / Big Wheels / Summer and Lightning / Mr. Blue Sky] XTC - Season Cycle Electric Light Orchestra - Is It Alright Minus 5 - Ambulance Dancehall Asia - Voice of America The Rembrandts - Just the Way It Is, Baby The Benjy Davis Project - The Day That I Die Joe Jackson - Is She Really Going Out With Him? Fleetwood Mac - Never Going Back Again Sophie B. Hawkins - Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover
  23. Do we - i.e. Rune Tips? - really NEED to do anything at all? I don't think we have to meddle in others' private problems, as long as they don't concern us. I don't see how we are primary participants in the issue; if RV or Jagex see a need to do it, then I guess it's their right. Disclaimer: I do not speak for Tip.It in any sort of capacity. I used we as a general pronoun. TBH though, contacting TN authorities is what Jagex should have done behind the scenes - instead of a screaming forum post. And honestly, there is nothing preventing any concerned citizen from discreetly asking whether running a fansite violates terms of contact. Id expect at the least that some sort of age verification would have to be put in place to make it legit.
  24. A good starting point for information is the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation's own website on the subject: http://www.tbi.tn.go...ender_faq.shtml A thorough list of Statutory Definitions of Tennessee Sexual and Violent Sexual Offenses with Related Codes is found in this document: http://www.tbi.tn.go...Definitions.pdf The Board of Probation & Parole enforces what is allowed contact-wise and what is not, “grey areas” or not. For example, consider Operation Compliance 2009: http://news.tennesse...e.org/node/3205 (Halloween & harvest festivities). The specifics of this operation are not spelled out in Tennessee Code Annotated, yet they are enforced. I suggest that for the definitive answer, we need contact the TNBOPP for the answer. It may even be that they are not aware of the situation, seeing as it was dredged from a small local newspaper.
  25. FWIW, the US Government does maintain a Federal level database which is not dependent on small local newspapers. I can't speak for other countries http://www.nsopw.gov/Core/Portal.aspx @ Crossed Body: If you are a convicted sex offender, you are required by law to live a certain distance away from schools, bus stops, etc. In the broadest sense of the law, an offender is not supposed to go out of his way to attract children (such as putting toys in the yard, trick-or-treating candy on Halloween, etc.) I guess it all depends on whether you think RuneVillage was targeted at minors or over-18 players. While it's quite likely that nothing at all improper was going on over there, the point is that the individual probably shouldn't have been running the site at all. He should have known better.
