  1. What will happen next, when your dad finds out (and he will find out) is that the computer will end up moving to the family room where he can personally keep an eye on what you do. This is the stock advice that is always given to parents in situations like this. Sooner or later your dad will get tired of playing whack-a-mole with your efforts and just resort to good old human AI.
  2. Of course. Who cares about 100% consistency. Again, this is how it is done in other games. If they can't find it or its gone or destroyed, then that's that. At least you got your chance to get itgems back. As it is you get nothing, ever, even when it's dead simple to help. Since I birthed this thread, Ill chime in. I realize that there probably can never be a 100% foolproof method of returning items lost to hacking. My point was meant to be that when Jagex has the needed information right in front of them where items went and can fix it without introducing new wealth into the game, they should do so. It doesnt matter if it was 1000 Santa hats or 1000 firelighters. Jagex current policy of 100% non-return of items in these cases puts them in a dubious position. Apocryphally, they are assumed to want the removal of as many of the old style rares from the game as possible. Jagex current policy puts them in a position where it is advantageous for accounts with rares to be misappropriated - then they can swoop in and remove the rares in a way they could never do if the account hadnt been hijacked in the first place. IMO, its unethical and sickening.
  3. AFAIAC, it all boils down to a lack of social aptitude. You may have the best, most efficient training methods known to man - but if you are condescending and socially inept, it wont get you squat. Id wager todays theatrics were just a stunt to drive a wedge into the community here. The new efficiency forums were already in place and the clown car was packed to drive today. There was an awful lot of goading & button-pushing going on today and none of it was heat of the moment sort of stuff. Some people will go and some will stay. I think those guys could put up a good informative site on efficient methods, but I dont think any of them have the social skills to succeed at it in an interactive medium (i.e. a forum). FWIW.
  4. Starting the day by bumping an old forum thread. Necromancy rules!
  5. 6. My only complaint with this update is that you can no longer bookmark your high scores (which means the forum links to high scores are also broken). New high score URL: http://services.runescape.com/m=hiscore/compare.ws?user1=Kafei%20Nation The rest of it doesn't apply to me and will never apply to me.
  7. Nice theory. I am personally betting on: check to hosting company lost in the mail or bounced
  8. If Jagex shared your point of view, there would be no option to turn off public chat. There is indeed such an option. No one is obliged to engage you in conversation. "MMO" doesn't mean players have to be joined at the hip in cooperative gameplay. Competitive gameplay against those other players in a concurrent fashion is just as much "MMO."
  9. The current number is: 15,774 It's worth noting that these accounts are not immediately being banned; they are just being thrown into the investigations grist mill (along with other accounts that Jagex can link to them). The accounts in question might or might not end up being sanctioned.
  10. Apparently Jagex has begun having some form of human-driven bot busting events: Must be some new community event that I was unaware of. :P It is stated in the thread that this number will be kept updated as more busting goes on. QFC: 129-130-241-62642440 (stickied in the Rants forum)
  11. Amazon has about 2400 free songs on their site. Most are individual songs, but there are several label samplers up there also. You can filter the list by genre. They typically add a couple dozen songs every week. http://www.amazon.com/Free-Songs-Music/b?ie=UTF8&node=334897011
  12. If it's truly going to be über, then yes, it should include both. This presents a nice opportunity to address the horrendous luck-based mechanisms in both activities.

  14. Two things to add: (1) I proudly pay for my music downloads (I prefer Amazon over iTunes) (2) $75 trillion is over 5 times the current US National Debt
  15. I know nothing about this except for what I have seen on the web; never used it personally: http://johnbokma.com/messenger/handwriting-msn-beta.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Journal http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=fad44098-8b73-4e06-96d4-d1eb70eacb44&displaylang=en
  16. What he said; except it's not just relevant to the UK but more properly to the entire 54 nation Commonwealth of Nations. Elizabeth II is specifically the head of state of 16 nations, including Canada, Australia & New Zealand. The Crown is not politically important, but it still carries tremendous cultural clout in many countries.
  17. Absolutely - and not even because of the newbie disadvantage. It's severe weather season across the United States, and lengthy outages in electrical power are not uncommon when supercells develop. You can't get back in 15 minutes if you don't have freaking electric power because of severe storms. Of course, it's easy to complain about the game going soft as long as your own situation is covered. ===== As for commemorating the upcoming RW nuptials, I think it's a good thing. The one last distinguishing thing this game still has going for it is its British flavor.
  18. The last 10 songs in the Hump Day iTunes shuffle: Peter Gabriel - Games Without Frontiers The Beatles - She Said She Said Simon & Garfunkel - The Boxer Jupiter One - Flaming Arrow Bonnie Tyler - Total Eclipse of the Heart Queen - Sleeping on the Sidewalk Big Audio Dynamite II - Rush Prince - Days of Wild (live) Terence Trent DArby - Wishing Well Electric Light Orchestra - Easy Money
  19. I'm not even willing to pay $6 a month. ========= Jagex is making money hand over fist. Improved customer service could come out of current revenues, TBH.
  20. Since I'm still running XP Pro, IE9 is not an option. I use Firefox, Opera, Safari and IE8 (but mostly Firefox).
  21. Dividing 365 by 12 returns a non-zero remainder. Until some form of calendar reform is enacted, you will just have to get used to the notion of months having unequal lengths. Personally, I like this one, but you end up with 13 months of 28 days. You also have a Friday the 13thevery month. The leap days will always be there, however. That can't be helped as long as Earth's year is 365.256363004 days long.
  22. I am all for metering RS time per month, but for different reasons than the OP. Considering: 30 days a month = 720 hours - heres our starting number. Eight hours a day for sleep = 240 hours Eight hours a day for school, 5 days a week = about 172 hours (240 * 5/7) 720 - 240 - 172 = 308 hours of personal time for eating, ass-scratching, homework, family time and any other pursuits. This 308 hours should be the starting point at which Jagex meters monthly RS time. I wouldnt mind seeing it go to 200 or perhaps even lower. This would be an excellent passive way to throttle the personal botting that is rampant in the game. And when I say personal botting, I refer to people who are botting on their mains. Sure, people will still try to bot and Jagex will still make token efforts at stat wipes. But at least you limit the damage being done.
  23. The last 10 songs in the Hump Day iTunes shuffle: War - Low Rider The Beatles - I Call Your Name Queen - Tear It Up Uproot Andy - Brooklyn Cumbria XTC - King for a Day Led Zeppelin - Misty Mountain Hop Sonny & The Sunsets - Too Young to Burn Francis and The Lights - Tap the Phone Earth, Wind & Fire - Shining Star Nanci Griffith - Storms
  24. I notice your comments are rather one-sided... What about the random teenager - was his pursuit of personal details and other players virtual items also trivial? That random teenager didnt just happen to guess recovery details - it was a concerted effort to find them.
