  2. And which law abiding citizen feels the need to bring a weapon to a movie? I bet if you polled everyone in the auditorium, you'd find that the most dangerous thing in there was a pocket knife. As I understand it, this theater chain does not honor CCW permits. http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2012/07/robert-farago/cinemark-theaters-no-legal-firearms-allowed/ Perhaps they will rethink this in light of this “fish in a barrel” situation created by their own policies.

  4. The Herald Capes seem to be all screwed up. My black-and-white skunk stripe manifests as the blue Varrock cape. But when I go to Falador to customize it, it shows my previously customized cape. No changes I make appear on the cape on my back.

  8. Depending on which poll you look at, anywhere from 46% to 67% of Americans want Obamacare repealed. The SCOTUS basically threw the decision back to the electorate. It’s unlikely the Republicans can secure enough Senate seats this fall to completely repeal the act; that would require a supermajority of 67 votes of 100. The Republicans would have to pick up 20 or so senate seats. BUT... The Republicans will only need to gain 3 seats to reach 50 Senate seats. Provided they reach 50 seats, win the White House and hold onto the House, they will be able to use the budget reconciliation process to deny funding (the Republican VP would be the tiebreaker vote). FWIW, in the 2010 elections (the first after Obamacare), the Republicans gained 6 Senate seats. I’d bet they can pick up 5 or 6 more in 2012. The sweet irony is that this is the same back door process the Democrats used to get around a filibuster and push Obamacare through in the first place. There are 33 Senate seats up for re-election this fall. Twenty-three of those seats caucus with the Democrats. The 2012 election will be a referendum on Obamacare, and it is going to be fun to watch. ref: http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/could-republicans-really-repeal-obamacare-091546012.html

  10. In the USA: UHF TV was once 14-83, then they lopped off channels 70-83 (806-896 MHz) for cellular & 2-way. Then when they had the DTV conversion a few years back, they took away channels 52-69 (698-806 MHz) and auctioned the spectrum off to wireless providers. So now in the USA, UHF TV has channels 14-51 (470-698 MHz). Now, out in the sticks not all those channels are used; there are gaps in the spectrum that could be used for other things. In my market, from 14 to 51 there are 7 frequencies being used for DTV. The rest are there for low power TV (Class A), repeaters and potential future use. These unused TV frequencies could be regionally allotted for other wireless uses if the law allowed it. But out here, there is no spectrum crunch because there are fewer people. But in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago or other major cities, it is a different matter. There is a much larger demand for wireless access there. But at the same time, there are many more TV broadcasters in those areas. There are no gaps in the TV block that could be reappropriated for wireless internet. We have the free spectrum in precisely the areas where it is not needed, but where the crunch is, there is no spectrum to be had. What will eventually happen is that broadcast television as your grandparents & parents knew it will go away. Not now, not next year, or even in the next decade. But when enough of the rabbit ears generation dies off, the frequencies that are now used for broadcast TV will be reclaimed for other uses. In the end, however, we just have to realize that spectrum is finite and limited. IMO, the use of wireless broadband for personalized video streaming is an egregious waste. Reigning that in would help a lot.

  12. After several weeks of relative quiet, the jackwagons are back out in force. I've gotten 8 phish emails in the past 5 days. One particularly caught my eye. The subject exclaims You've got 20 Free Spins! The phishing URL itself is in the Netherlands. Sadly, it sounds just like a marketing stunt Jagex would do. If only the phishing fool realized how I actually feel about SoF.

  14. Wat (I get that you can go F2P as a form of boycott, but it wouldn't be very effective, and it kinda ruins the "Time Saved" bit of that siggy if you're still playing at all.) I log on once or twice a week just to keep the account active and to thwart any little e-thugs from trying to recover an inactive account. I no longer play the game in any meaningful way.
  15. Andrews Jagex would never have pulled stunts like this. But sadly, this is IVPs Jagex. All bets are off. Long-term, I dont expect this game to last another 5-10 years. So I take these player projections re: the Fish Face with a grain of salt. Who will be playing in 5-10 years that would be interested in buying them? As for me, Ill still be clicking the X on the little green skinned bastard son of Gerhard every time I log in. YMMV.

  23. FWIW, I was getting 9 fps before the update and am getting 20 now (that is with OpenGL, everything turned on or maxed, as full a screen as F2P can have). Didn¹t try DirectX yet; will do that later if I have time. Pivoting the view with the arrow keys is smooth and speedy. Renderer shows a long driver ID number now where before, it was simply 0 =D>
