  1. The sigs in this topic show something of my evolution as pixel sigmaker. Before I started pixelling, or my version of it, I did a lot of other things. I was mostly known for my dino animations (small dino̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s doing stuff like jumping, got told it was cute) Anyway, this topic isn̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t about those works, but more about the finished pixel-works (and one big practice thing) I made. I also made a whole [cabbage]load of things I never finished, but I̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ll dig those up at a later time perhaps. I hope you guys like this thread :) This was the first pixel sig I ever made. I saw stuff made by Lethal Axe (On runevillage) at that time, and I heard many people say he was the best (never heard of mrx, jeppox or zilben at that time.) I had just come back from a break and I wanted to show I was better. So I entered this in a comp, and I believe it won. Confident of my victory, I entered another competition, which I also won. I entered this; I also made some other stuff at that time, I believe this one was one of them. What happened then I can̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t quite remember, but I believe of the things I could recover, I made this for my guide (though it̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s a edited version for zeus, and not the orignal from the guide), and soon after that a second one for zeusthagod. I believe I then made this for Hadarrim̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s big pixel competition down at runevillage. I won it, and it was the first mil I won :) I then started working more and more on my brushing/pixel skill. One of the first things I made with that was the fox I still use as a sig here. And after that I made this skull aswell, which I gave to someone who asked for it on msn for free. T̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢was practise anyway; My friend, Duke, or Failed Project then said I could never be as good as zilben. Though it was pretty true I made him this one to prove him wrong. It was probably all just a clever trick to lure me into making something for free for him :D And later this.. which never sold; I also went back to animation during that time. Besides a lot of doodles, I primarily made this big project, though I never finished it. Then more recently, I made this (which most of you will probably recognize) All together I did learn a lot about the whole pixel thing, and I'm finally turning to real pixel stuff after a whole career with dirty tricks. I never did earn a lot though, which got me quite depressed when I was still playing rs. When I figured rs was really stagnating my artistic side, I didn't care about the money to much. All together I guess I made a total of 5 mil, with a lot of sigs not being payed for (Not all finished are in here) and a whole lot of work just not finished. Well.. Hope you guys enjoyed the show ^^
  2. Ofcourse you had basic artistic talents when you were born, hence why your now a good pixeler. A lot can be learned, but it takes time.
  3. Weren't you making a new one God? Get to it! *whips* And I agree with mrx, please say so when you guys are both done, so we can see when we're allowed to burn your sigs completely. And thanks for making me judge...
  4. A lively village with people working, children playing, chickens walking around etc. Try using perspective on the buildings (look for a drawing tut on that if you don't know what it is,)
  5. I guess it's allright, but I don't use sketches myself. I just start pixelling right in program itself :)
  6. People critise so the artist can improve, and most people do care. My question to you is why you're reviving this old topic?
  7. lag Godslayer? :) I forgot to say that to find a good background tutorial, you don't have to look for pixel specific, because drawing tutorials learn you the same basics for it.
  8. Your welcome, If I remember I'll give you some tips on the landscape tomorrow, because I'm really tired now (And addicted to forums, hence why I'm still here ) Sending photo's would make the going-out-and-draw-things useless, because it won't be something life your drawing. I'm sure there are some trees around, even in a city. A museum about history (of war - hoozay!) is also a good place to get some inspiration. Don't forget your sketchbook :)
  9. I've always seen your style as a very rough and expressional one, with a lot of power in them. That is.. in the characters. Your background are extremely simplistic and are therefor in contrast with the strong characters. I challenge you to make a scenery with a couple of buildings together, a village for example, with mountains in the distance, a river closeby (perhaps going through the village) and the same river far in distance. It would be great practice, and I will happily help you with it once you make that example :) A side-effect of your quite strong style of your shading mostly, is that *in my view* some of the characters get a little unclear by the shading. This was mostly on some of your older ones, and it's getting better now (Like with the quer vs. you sig) Not much more to add here then. As terley said before, the faces on your characters don't seem to have eyes.. They do have great texture though! You can see the contours of the faces very strongly (Exept on that one guy for dithering practise) Just remember that a person doesn't only exists from the basic forms, but also the small things, like eyes. Eyes are actually a very important part of a face, since most eyes really seem to give life to people (in figurative art) I think you would greatly benefit if you looked at other people's works and tutorials to learn some techniques on scenery and colouring. Things you could learn are perspective (for great depth in backgrounds,) but also dithering, anti-aliasing and colour effects. And don't just look at pixelers (though mrx uses some great perspective in his later works) I think you should also look at some paintings from the romanticism period (late 18th century,) with which I personally seem to compare your work with  Romanticism was all about well.. romantising actions, such as combat. But also other figurative paintings and drawings help. I think you could learn to add great drama in your sigs by studying these paintings. Not only studying other people's works helps, but ofcourse also studying real life things can give a great boost to your skill. Go out some day with a sketchbook and perhaps a chair, and camp at a farm or somewhere in nature. Drawing after the landscape and animals, and also people (though they tend to move a lot) can give you all new ideas and views on how things work and look. I hope you understand all of my critics and my advices, and I hope they can help you get better, because you got a lot of talent :) Good luck, and feel free to ask things.
  10. Just like JP said, I am always ready to judge aswell. Good luck to you both :) And God.. I'll be your apprentice, show me all you know :D
  11. The pose is great and looks real powerfull. It has nice detail, but I don't like the colouring, and against the white background this yellow and cocasion(spelling?, mean a white man anyway) character is a bit hard to notice. Not that much though, and I guess it will change anyway with the background being added. Other things I noticed is that the left (our left) knee is to low compared to the right one, and if it is the perspective, the guy would have to lean to the left more. Then there is the sword that has a very long handle on it. Maybe you could lower the left arm and the blade of the sword a little. Overal good work on this guy, and I hope you don't mess up the background :)
  12. Mrx, you got to be one of the nicest, most professional, and above all skillfull people I know. I can only ever hope I can get as good as you, and not just in skill. As for the possibilty of making real life money for something.. That'd be great! Since I don't even play rs anymore, making money with my hobby is something I dream of.. hm, what else could anyone want. So if anyone wants to pay real money for something by me, pm me! ^^ *cough* Sorry about that, just had to advertise
  13. It looks .. sketchy. Armour and weaponry are usually made out of plates, and so have clear strong lines. This helm is a bit uneven, as if it was made by an inexperienced blacksmith. If you know what I mean :? Good thing nobody knows I draw with my feet, so my pixel skills are quite safe.... Oops...
  14. Doesn't look special or good at all to me :? 5/10
  15. I guess there goes my chance of being a judge
  16. Before you ask, Yes, I do have something better to do.. But meh.. And this is no attack to you God, just a mere joke  Edit: Some minor flaws... No, you can't see the old one! :P
  17. I don't find the right arm that wrong myself. Hardly noticed really. And Godslayer.. Quer is one tough opponent. He lost 666 games to you and he still has morale left! ;)
  18. Lag ples? Anyway, nice improvements, but the one major flaw, the background is still there. Try adding perhaps a building in the middle. You could also break the line of the floor a bit by adding rocks and other junk there. Or just bending it a little.
  19. Nice characters.. but the background? Looks really rushed. And if you were going for a fighter style thing, It might be fun to add the interface of one :) Maybe you can even, instead of battles won, put sigs made or something. Just a thought. Do work on that background though.
  20. He's a bit symmetrical, and symmetry usually equals boredom. Try adding a more actionfull pose next time, though it's quite hard on such a little space in an avatar. The PvP set looks very similair to the one ingame, if I remember it correctly. Good job!
  21. Abstract basicly is something you can't define, or see what it is. The picture GSW showed is, as he said, what most people on these runescape circles of graphics design make of abstract; renders and brushings that don't mean or show anything.
  22. If you still need a judge, I'm avaiable, but it looks like you got some good candidates allready :) Good luck, both of you.
  23. A vector is basicly that instead of using a bunch of pixels to create a line, one creates two points and the computer calculates the line between them, this resulting in no aliasing. This way you can keep on zooming on the line, and it will always remain a straight line, instead of pixels put together. You can create vector with, for example; Adobe Illustrator.
