Am I the only one who misses the old random events?
Sobend replied to Blaze The Movie Fan's topic in Questionnaires
I started playing with the random events in game, so I miss them. They've always been part of Runescape for me. I can see why people don't like them, particularly if you began playing when they weren't in the game. For example, I hate fatigue, the RSC anti-botting mechanism (it really has worked wonders!!!). At least with randoms you got XP and things. -
So if I decide to drop thousands of resources and high tier equipment, is there going to be anything to stop an iron man account from picking it up?

@bold Nomad is back. HYPE HYPE HYPE. WHY DID I NOT THINK OF THIS OH MY GOD YES I WANT THIS Well considering nobody mentioned the involvement of Nomad in the quest I thought I'd take the honor of being the first to do so. :P But yeah, it was not something I thought took a leap of intelligence to figure out considering the devs have been talking about possible Nomad involvement, nor was I really insinuating that. As for the poll itself, I will vote for the Pirates when I log back. However I thought the next Pirate quest was going to deal with Ape Atoll for some reason. Anyway, I'm surprised they are polling the Zamorak quest in the first place. I thought it was set in stone for December/January release. Well, it is Jagex... I shouldn't be completely surprised.

The person with the maul needs to use the dart, otherwise it doesn't work.

They did think of it. There was a whole thread about it on the RSOF for several weeks after the poll. Ultimately it was decided it was not workable whilst keeping the combat triangle reasonably balanced because it would require applying some sort of "ammo" esque cost to all melee weapons. Even then it wouldn't be exactly balanced though given it'd force degrade onto low level melee items, and double-rate degrade on to high end. Meanwhile ranged would be out of kilter thanks to ammo saving mechanics. Not to mention rune costs on combat spells were reduced in the first place precisely because mage was overly expensive compared to other styles. But by making runes more expensive they're already making the combat triangle unbalanced and making magic more expensive. It's impossible to make the combat triangle equal in terms of cost because melee doesn't have any ammo, as you said. And if we're going to look past costs, magic and ranged will always be better than melee because they attack from a range. Besides, in my opinion balanced =/= interesting. One of the reasons why I don't like this combat system too much is because of balance. And I'm not sure if you got this, but the "nobody ever thought of this before" statement was sarcastic. ;p

Hey Jagex, I got a great idea nobody has ever even though of on how to make runes more valuable: make abilities use runes. Don't worry; my Jmod application is already in the mail.

Nice job on the freeplay article. As someone who spent a lot of time in freeplay I found the pure freeplay article interesting. Freeplay has gone through lots of crap - the subscribe button being the most annoying for me. There is a minor mistake. In the second article it says Korasi's sword comes from a minigame when it should be quest. -
I agree it was rushed, which was sad. The Plague City storyline is by far my favorite, and I'm sad that Jagex felt the need to rush the most critical episode. It wasn't horrible, but it didn't live up to its potential. It easily could have been as epic as While Guthix Sleeps in my opinion, but they settled for something good but not great. And as someone else mentioned here, it's not like Jagex can't make a good quest, it's just that they don't care much about making them outside of the sixth age storyline and reworks. But either way, I really enjoyed the nostalgia part of it. I don't care and never cared much about the elves (especially how they look now - ugh), but it was great to see the original storyline players (before the Elves) come together and take back Ardougne. Elena is one of my favorite in-game characters (I have no idea why) and I'm glad she basically lead the invasion of Mourner HQ, gave you the flag, etc. More post quest dialogue with those characters would be nice, but hey you can't always get what you want, right? Overall, it was a great experience to finish what I started when I was a young kid in middle school (or whenever I started these :P) who really had one of his first true adventures going through the Underground Pass.

To answer your question of the delayed crash I'd say it's more than just the runespan. I'd have to say the massive amounts of pure essence coming into the game through rewards from daily challenges is the biggest reason why pure essence is dirt cheap right now.

A congratulations topic is a horrible place to do diss a moderator anyway. -
I really dislike the idea that they pawn off people's usernames in the first place. A username is an identity, it shouldn't be taken away from you. Especially not after 6 months.

I don't play Old School often but it definitely seems to have more wilderness activity than Runescape 3. The only big wilderness activity of note in Runescape 3 is an event that happens every seven hours. However I know there is a Runescape 3 PvP community; it's not huge though.
-
The activity of the wilderness has gone down significantly since the you quit. It may be going up soon with the Legacy mode (which is a mode where you can use the older combat system). Whether you want to play old school and new school is something I no one here but yourself can answer really. Play both (old school has a 2 week free trial) and see how you like it.

So AGS doesn't do as much damage now?

He can be in a ton of places, although there are a few hot spots. You're best off getting the amulet from the A Tail of Two Cats quest and tracking him with that.

Not the oldest picture I have taken but it's pretty close and the oldest I could find. Dated October 1st 2005 Not sure how many of you remember this, but there was a glitch where guards would respawn in the crouched position (the same position that they are in after their death). In this case it looks like he is sleeping and I guess it was funny enough to take a picture of it. Where has the time gone? :( -
I've personally seen a 9781 with dual ascension crossbows.

I suppose the repeating boss fight is useful for freeplayers who plan on getting members eventually. When I lose members this fall this update will probably keep me logging in. But for pure freeplayers, yeah useless.
-
The Battleaxe is sold at the Heroes' Guild, and I'm assuming you can buy it for cheaper on the Grand Exchange. Also requires completion of the Heroes' Quest.

As a pure in EOC lp was the main factor but it never made things impossible just extremely difficult. This will help out immensely. So pures are back to their strength pre-EOC? I don't see any other factors holding them back.
-
Wow, does this LP thing mean pures are back? It seemed like that was their biggest issue with EOC.

Combat level update? 138 vs 200? -- newest news?
Sobend replied to karnsy81's topic in General Discussion
138 is coming back. They slightly altered the calculation (otherwise it would be horrific for measuring players) and released the formula on the beta servers. If you want to see your combat level just log into the beta server. They said the ETA for main game implementation is the summer, probably late summer. Though with Jagex you never know...
