  1. I enjoy snowboarding. I wouldn't say I live for it or anything like many people around here, but it's something I do for goof times. I guess I'm kind of spoiled though, it's only about a 20 minute drive to the local mountain (not hill, mountain) which is a lot of snow to ride. Lake Tahoe is a nice place, and maybe 40 minutes away I'm on the next biggest mountain should I get sick of the nearby one. I'm going to try and make it up at least once a week this year due to getting a new job and basically during the winter they don't make exceptions on days off. I usually only go up for a couple hours at a time and it's just a great way to forget about stuff that you have to do when you get home.
  2. Best spent is either this computer, iPod, or my car. Worst is my xbox 360 that I thought would be a blast. Lasted about a month and I haven't touched it in about 3 months, which is a shame because it wasn't cheap. I keep thinking of ways to get rid of it without losing too much, because in tough times financially like now, that's like 12 tanks of gas or two car payments or even lunch daily at a nice restaurant for a whole month! All of those would be more useful than the xbox right now. But I'm sure it could have a few uses in college.
  3. Nah, it's not another crappy band thread. Found this the other day and thought it was pretty dang cool. Basically you select a couple of songs from your library that you want a playlist based around, then click the magic button (it tells you how to do it), and then a playlist is created based on those songs. http://www.thefilter.com/ Works with iTunes and it supposedly "learns" your style and won't add songs you frequently skip, etc. It's pretty accurate based on the playing around I did with it, and it's always cool to have a playlist for the various things I do that fits the mood of a few songs.
  4. My dad just had emergency triple bypass heart surgery about a month ago. As in, he had chest pains and they said he was having a heart attack and that he needed the surgery immediately if he wanted to live, not voluntary. Basically they cut his chest open, took a large piece of artery from his leg and another piece from the right side of his chest, then cut the leg artery in half and sewed them in to bypass the blood around the clogged arteries. He's all good now, but he was in the hospital for nine days. For about three weeks he couldn't lift anything over ten pounds or drive or get his heart rate 20 beats per minute over normal, so needless to say we had a lot on our hands for a while. He won't be fully recovered for a few months, it was pretty major. Not to mention the fact that it introduced us to the concept of a family history of heart disease, so I've got to do a lot to prevent it.
  5. Posted before, but again... Jack Johnson with ALO and Matt Costa Modest Mouse Matisyahu Death Cab for Cutie & Franz Ferdinand with The Cribs 311 with The Wailers and Pepper Dave Matthews Band with Robert Rudolph and the Family Band
  6. I'm not a bad cook. I don't really cook much now, but once I'm out on my own I'll be making gourmet dishes as much as I can afford :). My brother-in-law is a great chef and I've learned a lot from him, specifically about baking bread and pastries... I'm planning on taking some cooking classes soon so I know more.
  7. Lucky you, you were born on the same day as me. I'm getting old though... Kinda forgot it was my birthday until around 2:00 where I got a gift from someone at work. Then dinner, and that's pretty much all there is to the celebration of being an official "adult." I even registered for the draft as required by law.
  8. I'd say this is pretty ridiculous. I can easily see this playing out like that one South Park episode where the kids what their parents to get off their backs so they say they are getting molested and then no more adults are around because everyone is in jail. Kind of similar I guess :P.
  9. It's OK, I kind of wish there was more DMB involvement other than just the chorus, but both bands I really like. Planning on going to a DMB concert next week, five hour drive each way but it should be well worth it!

    Vitamin Water

I like it, but I don't drink it as 'flavored water', I drink it as a flavored drink. I don't drink soda either so it's good. I like the mango one, but they're all pretty decent.

    Tupac

Tupac is good, but kids kind of blow him out of proportion. He's good but a bit overrated; there are a few other, very talented rappers out there who are worth listening to (Nas, Aesop Rock, Immortal Tecnique, to name a few). But since this is about Tupac: Try getting 'Ghetto Gospel' with Elton John (you'd be suprised...) Also try 'Thugz Mansion [Nas Acoustic]' It's like an acoustic rap, unique. Or go for the original 'Thugz Mansion' which is good too.
  12. I went deep sea fishing in Mexico once, it wasn't cool because there was absolutely no action. Pretty much four hours of riding in really rough waters with 3 foot swells, and nothing to show for it except an expensive day. That said, I would love to do it again sometime but actually get some fish.
  13. Maybe today... I mean it wasnt that bad but I had 6 hours of sleep last night, so naturally that makes the day even worse, up from my normal 9-10 hours in the summer, and was up at 7 to go to the DMV and thats never fun, got car registered, got tires for car, got tires mounted, and every step of the way it was more expensive than I expected. Now I'm out about $900 . And there's this thing I've been trying to buy for the last week and only two places in town normally stock it and they haven't had any, but they say they do until I got there then they actually check and find they didn't have any, after driving all the way to these places. But nothing serious.
  14. To me it's definately in the guitar/bass and how it's played. Since I'm no musician I can't explain things how they should be, but it's the guitar. It's a common riff in every reggae song, and lots of use of bass. Oh and another reggae song: Capleton - That Day Will Come
  15. I loved it, one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time. Pretty much poking fun at everything NASCAR is about in a way, and that's always funny. I'd recommend seeing it while it's in theaters still.
  16. I listen to it... I like Eek-A-Mouse too, and pretty much all of the songs listed.
  17. Crash is my favorite/best movie, followed by Fight Club.
  18. I like the sweet cream ice cream from Coldstone or Marble Slab. Not quite vanilla but it's really good. Mixed with berries it's even better. Aside from that... Probably strawberry. Oh and I love gelato much more than ice cream (there is a difference, gelato has much more flavor per volume). It's tasty stuff.
  19. Would love to see Slightly Stoopid live, great band.
  20. They're decent, I used to listen to them a lot about 10 years ago when they were more popular.
  21. Pretty close to me... Your political compass Economic Left/Right: -0.63 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.92
  22. I did some thinking about this, ironically on 4th of July, and I find myself wondering why people can be so patriotic. Not in a bad way, and I'm not anti-America or anything, but I don't think it's the best place on Earth. There are plenty of other countries that are offered the same liberities Americans are, so there's that. I also, again from an open-minded standpoint, don't see anything wrong when a person is not patriotic. Impartial would be the word, because negatvity isn't right; if you don't like it there, don't live there. I can't say I'm unproud or anything but my eyes haven't been opened to being proud of the country yet. I can't find pride in some of the things the country does in the name of patriotism, like going to war "for patriotism." When fighting for the country, what are you fighting for? That war-cry-like intensity that people fight for their country with, are they fighting to live there? Or is it just the American way, since the country was founded after winning a war, so now we feel we must have war to keep the country "free"? That's where I just don't know. There's being patriotic, then there's "I'd die for my country" partiotism, and I just can't understand the latter. Forgive me for not agreeing with you but it's just my thought, each to his own. I am proud that I have a place to live without too many strings attached and have many liberties, but I'm not one to think that we are the best nation in the world. By the way, you mentioned that the media tends to focus on the negatives of America, but I think the media is a huge part in that many of us Americans feel that America is the greatest nation in the world. I don't think we are in a place to say that, or at least have that arrogance yet. I too am proud of the Consititution, in a non-arrogant way, because it's good to see a strong basis for the country to be run on that, in a sense, is very strictly followed when laws are made. Without a set of basics there would be no organization, and no reason for anyone to be patriotic.

    Who ARE you?

I don't dress uniquely, but I don't wear shirts with name brands on them all the time. Where I differ from everywhere else is my unique personality. Can't explain it, but I make sure everyone knows my personality is ME and not copied. That's about what I am. And a few people have mentioned it already... But non-conformism is becoming so common anymore that you're being a conformist for being a non-conformist. So those who are already conformists become non-conformists maybe? Hah.

    Arrrr!

I saw it last night, was crazy packed in that theater... I'm going to be honest, I liked the first one better. I thought it was more like one and a half movies, not just one. The director could have ended it at a point and made the ending very clear, but now it cuts off so abruptly with the cliffhangers. But it's a movie, not a television show where we can just tune in next week. Now we have to wait until the next movie to finish the scene off, and hopefully it's not just a half of a movie :P. That said, it was very well done. I wasn't too thrilled with the sea creature thingies, they were kind of far fetched (but undead pirates aren't :P). The story line is very deep and there's always something going on, and it provided a bunch of background for things we learned from the first movie. Does anyone think that scene where they are on the boat going down the river to that lady's hut in the jungle is strikingly like the Disneyland/world ride of he same name?

    O.A.R.

I like them, not the biggest fan but most of their songs have a cool feel to them, and it's nice to listen to more as background music as some of the songs are really long (i.e., Crazy Game of Poker). A friend's brother-in-law said they used to play at parties he had back in his younger days, so that's cool.
