Was looking to stroke my nostalgia...
But Jagex deleted my ruenscape account. Like, it straight up doesn't exist anymore. Likely due to ~4 years of inactivity but that's not how Jagex used to work. I fully expected to be able to return whenever. Perhaps I got "rollbacked" into oblivion, I don't know. I just know my account can't be searched for or logged into, and the "contact Jagex" is so convoluted I gave up. Of course giving up implies I really don't care much. Still...would have been nice to give my account a proper good bye. I dumped thousands of hours into it, I'd have liked to see it one more time. I 'scaped back in the '05 days, in 06Scape. Runescape's true glory. I basically had quit by the end of '07, returning briefly in the '09 era, and an occasional visit here and there. I have a lot of memories attached to that account. Some I could never even hope to make again. Even if I can't log in to it, I wish I could see the stats. I want to bask in the trophy state of the origin of what has become my online handle, crafted by prepubescent me. I kind of wanted to do a quick tour of the new runescape (I hear there's been many changes since my last nostalgia trip when dungeoneering came out) and I would have enjoyed viewing it through my properly leveled character. I sure don't feel like making a nooby just to look around. Of course, from what I've gathered over the years is that Runescape is hyper noob friendly now. I had to earn my way to the top as a fresh-off-tutorial islander. I mined essence for 30gp each with my cruddy steel pick axe. Took ages, but when I got to the mining guild, business flourished. I could create full mithril armor, I could buy full Guthix rune...I was on top of the world for a player who'd never dared to pay Jagex. But maybe that's why I am where I am. Ah well, rest easy Rpg Gamer1. Rest easy.

"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
As I figured it would. Being yourself works wonders for your anxiety.I'll be dateless yet again for valentines day, but I legitimately don't care. I was concerned last year about what I was going to do (I don't even remember what I ended up doing) and the year before that I went to a "singles-awareness" party. This year, I might go see the new Die Hard. Or smoke/drink with a few single friends. Not really committed to anything. Not really caring.

See that's what I thought at first too, but it was the opposite that I've observed over the past 6-7 years I've been paying attention.

"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
The first two weeks of December are ok, but the second two weeks aren't even worth trying. January through May is great because there's no major holidays and the weather's shitty. October's a good month. November not so great. Touching is natural, you've just been conditioned to think it's unnatural. It really only takes one positive reaction to touching to make it feel natural again. Precisely my point, though you're neglecting the fact that valentines day is mid February. I've also taken note that most break-ups happen in mid to late September; October if one member of the couple is clingy.

Sex work, sex trafficking, and the law
Pornography is quite different than prostitution. In the pornography industry, both participants are (hopefully) being paid, but they are not paying each other for the sexual act. Comparing gay marriage to prostitution isn't a very good comparison. Prohibiting gay marriage is wrong because our laws say that heterosexual couples can marry, but homosexual couples cannot. It's a matter of discrimination based on sexuality. We are not saying that "x" group of prostitutes can legally sell their bodies to another person, but "y" group cannot. saying "gays can't marry while straight people can" equates to "prostitutes cant have sex for money while pornstars can" in my book. it's still a discrimination based on sexuality, the only difference is orientation(preference) verse sexual feedom. Remember: the only difference between a hooker and a pornstar is a camera. Then you have missed my point entirely. Let me spell it out for you again so you may understand: Prostitution=one person soliciting sex, another paying for sex. Pornography=two people being paid to have sex by another party who then produces the act for entertainment value. They are entirely different things. Clever sayings do not equate the two. I think there is a way to separate pornography and prostitution though - the selection of whom to engage in intercourse with. It's probably harder for prostitutes to discriminate against the fat, the obese, and the ugly... let alone the STD-saturated john whom may be cheating on their partner, if it's based purely on money (which street prostitution, and window-prostitution is pretty much). If we're talking about escorts, on the other hand... EDIT - Oh, I appear to have replied to the wrong person. I meant that to be in response to the idea that porn = prostitution with a camera. With prostitution being legal, "hookers" would then be given a choice of their clients, yes? That sounds fair to me. It has to be a mutual agreement. I suggest you(all of you really) research the "registered companion" character of the Firefly universe. They have an absolutely brilliant system of respectful prostitution. Double post, but I missed this. Could you elaborate on which hookers we're talking about - every category has its own niche and appeal. I would imagine discrimination based on appearance could raise issue with disgruntled johns, if applied in window prostitution for example. "hookers" as in prostitutes. The umbrella term for all things streetwalker/red light window girl/ escort I guess I don't understand what you're getting at. I simply think that paying someone to have sex with you is wrong. Whether it is through a regulated system or through the black market, it strikes me as wholly disgusting. I firmly believe people enter prostitution out of desperation and as a means to an end. I think research into what truly drives people into prostitution--and fixing that--would be a better allocation of governmental resources than regulating the industry. While objective morality doesn't exist, I implore you to have a heart for those who sacrifice their social standings to pay for food for their kid, spouse, rent etc. Not every prostitute is a godless heathen sinner devil person. Tell me you've never seen someone hit rock bottom and then be rejected by those who they reach out to. This can lead to drug issues and other "disgusting" (your term, not mine) behavior. Not their fault, not most of the time. But you'd rather kick them while their down then give them a state of legitimacy by legalizing and de-stigmatizing selling sex. I'm not keen to your moral high ground that benefits no one but the egos of those who are "above" rock bottom.

"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
I'm going through Muggiw's guide now. So far I can see I'm "level 4" ish. Touching new people has always been a bit awkward for sober me. I also like the human way of meeting girls. It's slower, it's less efficient, but it feels more natural. @Muggiw have you considered the variable of timing in your spreadsheet? Clearly practice has been making perfect, but I hypothesize that girls are more likely to be responsive in the months of October, November, January and February. I'm super stoked to bar crawl after I turn 21 in 2 weeks. I feel buzzed me talking to buzzed girls in real life will really be my element. Though I do like the synapses of the benefits to online "game".

My advice on online dating: don't. I do it out of sheer cognitive dissonance.

Don't you just love getting a nice big tax refund every year? It's like getting to hit the reset button on all your bills. In the year's past it's been great because I just splurged and bought anything I wanted (new computer, Xbox 360, HD TV, etc.) but this year I was actually really excited to do something useful and meaningful with it. I should have paid my credit card off last year, but I wanted Skyrim/new Xbox/TV instead so I went that route. This year I figured enough was enough, and I'd take care of important stuff first. It's also been a bit tough since my rent is so expensive, and I have a decent-sized car payment every month. Between rent or a car, I've been late/avoiding my car payment, so it was also great to be able to pay both of them without having to worry about one of them! I was also a bit too poor (I like to be generous towards my family with my money) during Christmas 2012 and I couldn't buy a single person a gift, so now that the credit card business was taken care of, I'm going to do some surprise Christmas-in-February for everyone. :) After all THAT is done, if I have some money left (which I should, yay!!!) I'll look at getting "fun"/impulse items for myself. May get an iPhone finally, or another tattoo. I read that as "I just got out of mad debt...NOW I HAVE SO MUCH MORE DEBT TO ACCUMULATE" pics? supportive smiles get more subscribers than spite :P Holy [bleep].

It has to be a mutual agreement. @Range, if your definition of pornography and prostitution only differs in payment plans consider this: you(client) pay(cash) to recieve sex. The employed sex worker is paid in cash and possibly hourly wages or whatever from the brothel. On top of that, the employed sex worker is paid in sex. Mutually, the employed sex worker pays sex for sex in a sense. The employee gets to enjoy sex likely just as much as the client (especially if terms are discussed and a mutual agreement is made). I suggest you(all of you really) research the "registered companion" character of the Firefly universe. They have an absolutely brilliant system of respectful prostitution.

No no, they've all been students. All of which I've encountered in our growing sexology department (which was my original idea for a major, but I settled with psychology). My college offers quite a few classes on sexual behavior, childhood sexuality theory, queer theory, and possibly more coming. Might be enough to make a grad student out of me yet.

Sex work, sex trafficking, and the law
Sounds like you and Muggiw could go on for hours and hours there Range. Stigmas are subjective. If a marriage forms from prostitutes; so be it. I've seen quite a few porn star couples (even a documentary on their relationship) and while most will find their relationship strange and alien, it works for them. And who are you to say their lifestyle is wrong? (bold claim: how is it any different from saying gay people can't marry?)

"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
Nah I usually look at profiles, but pics first always. I message maybe 1/30 profiles I visit. So my responses are few and far between. And then even fewer are interested girls. But now I don't even give a crap because I just found out (since that post) that the girl that sits like 3 desks away from me in one of my classes is para-porn star and she's goofy as hell. I am sooooo trying for that this semester. EDIT: The hippo mom was using photo angles I shoudnt have trusted from years back before child bearing. I've learned to be more skeptical.

Holy Jesus. I retract everything bad I've ever said about my college (which is actually a lot if you take a gander at my status history on facebook). Last semester I had a stripper in my class and she was awesome. This semester I have an ex-NSA spy/transgender person and a porn star in my class. I am literally over ecstatic right now. I can NOT wait for class again on Thursday. Oh my lawd.

Got my first number from OkC in a good long while. Hopefully this one won't be a chain smoking hippo mom like the last one.

Sex work, sex trafficking, and the law
I don't see the need for cc only. There are perfectly reasonable reasons for people to not want the local brothel showing up on their statement. It's not about what the clients have showing up, it's about what the establishment has tracked in their books. More for the employee's safety. I imagine transactions in a brothel much like purchases. "I'll buy 'Destiny' for $XX.XX for X time". Thus the credit receipt would read "$XX.XX - 'Destiny' @ Brothel" As a person who worked in a Alcohol job, you'll get a fake ID no matter what. these day's they're getting more smarter when making them, and Debit cards (unless checked by the police) can't be used to track a users age due to privacy agreements. As it stands, if I wanted, at the cost of about ~$80, I could reforge my entire documents myself, obtain a new name/age on a debit card, and get a photo/age ID card. Obviously I couldn't drive with it, but the point is that in these industries you can't ALWAYS prevent underages getting in. THEN there's cases of police being arsed to check underages who do manage to get through because the age of consent is usually 16 so they'd just think "meh its sex", opposed to booze/smokes which are aimed +18/+21 for health reasons. The sentiment stems from responsibility. You have to be responsible to get a credit card in the US, of a certain age, and actions hold dire consequences. Requiring one may discourage the underage/reckless crowd. To make a bold statement: I'm under the belief that if we remove the social stigma behind prostitution and the fallacy of sexualizing children (who are innately sexual regardless) it would be accepted as a common trade craft. Possibly even with academies of training. IE: Firefly - "The Companion"

God I hate treading pua forums. Thank god we have you as a sort of ambassador. (I literally threw my hands up in "[bleep]ing really?" pose when the ~3rd poster referred to OP as "Nickie" for the purpose of attatching gender to a name that was clearly chosen for androgynous purposes)

All of you are right about 4. No need to tread on the ever innovative porn industry. We have 3D TVs because of them. Blackmailing can't be good either, and some clients may want to keep their activity discreet. 2 is to help enforce age limit, and discourage seedy dealings. Surely a back alley deal will occur, but #2 discourages it. Let's be honest, no matter what the law says someone somewhere is going to break it on a consistent basis. Cash is too fluid, with fake IDs available, it could lead to issues.
