  1. Well, except for the fact that it's almost impossible to sell anything, it's perfect. ;)
  2. No, if it were a really true free market, then people who offered to sell for too much wouldn't sell, while those who offered for less would get buyers. Just how it works on the forums and w2 markets right now. Besides, there's a lot of middle ground between no restrictions and the current ridiculous limits. That's childish. This is a discussion forum, and I'm discussing a major flaw with a new update.
  3. They may not work in real life (although I'm sure you know many industries price fix, I'm looking at you AIRLINES) but this is a game with a much simpler economic model. The price ranges are what people traded at before anyway with only a few exceptions and without this we'd have people selling willow logs for 15k each and buying Santas for 10 gp. You CANNOT give the Runescape community this sort of thing and then allow them freedom to ask whatever price they want because they are too immature (for th most part) to not be greedy idiots about it. Edit:I think you'd be complaining if it was the other way round as well tbh, you seem to be disgruntled with Jagex at the moment and have lost your objectivity somewhat. Doesn't work in real life, online life or any other life. Price controls are an attempt to subvert the forces of supply and demand, and that in turn is an effort to control people. People will always respond to such attempts and thwart the system by using alternatives. It has happened every time in the past, and it will happen here as well. No, I'm not a merchant, but this update actually HELPS merchants by making the market even more inflexible than it was before.
  4. I wouldn't be too quick to conclude that. But yeah, Jagex made this so restrictive that it is going to be another update that doesn't live up to its full potential.
  5. Price controls don't work. Jagex apparently refuses to learn from the mistakes made by governments throughout the centuries and insists on repeating them. And the same things will happen now that have always happened.
  6. The PIN will be fixed. (Again, nobody in QA thought of that?) As for it being better than last week's update, not much of a compliment there. ;)
  7. Yes, some items sell quickly. 90% of them just sit there. That's what happens when over-regulate markets.
  8. People are standing around calling out what they are selling because rune boots cost 180k in the exchange an no one will pay that much. I know. I didn't mean the people are silly, I meant the system is. :)
  9. Again, the market would only be ineffective if prices of most items fluctuate more than 5% each day, which for most items doesn't happen. The market will find it's own place, albeit slower than you want, but it'll get there nonetheless. Sorry, I disagree. Prices CAN fluctuate by more than 5%. And if they only update once a day and only by 5% it will take WEEKS for some items to get to appropriate prices. By that time people will have just given up and gone back to the old methods. Why hamstring such a good feature with unnecessary restrictions?
  10. How did it fail in most areas? There's a few items or sets that the GE doesn't have, but once prices adjust (which takes time) then everything will be hunky-dory. The vast majority of items I've tried to sell have just sat on the exchange until I canceled them. Sure, it's good for common items, but they were easy to buy before also. Not saying this is a bad update, but it "needs refining" as the saying goes. ;)
  11. If it's only adjusted daily then this update is a failure. Prices fluctuate more quickly than that, and nobody is going to bother standing around for weeks to sell items. The problem is that right now I am trying to sell items for the lowest possible price and nobody is buying. The trading ranges are too narrow. Daily adjustments aren't a bad thing since prices for most items won't be dynamic enough to have huge fluctuations in a single day. In a few days, prices will drop to where the market actually is at and trades will flow smoothly. If you're that impatient, you can sell on the forums. It's not a matter of impatience; I am not after money in a hurry, I am testing the system. Markets that have too narrow of trading ranges and that update too slowly are ineffective. This exchange is being hampered by Jagex's excessive restrictions. If they want the market to find its own place then let it do so!
  12. Yes. Only they know that one. :) Maybe first come first served?

  14. People are now standing around calling out what they are selling on the exchange because nobody can browse. Silly.
  15. And a J mod on the RSOF just called this system CAPITALISM?
  16. The price controls already prevents the 'second bank account' abuse -- in theory. The problem is that right now, you put things up and because this is not a free market, nobody buys. And then you're stuck, because you can't browse what people want to sell for. I guess Jagex didn't learn anything from the USSR.
  17. I hope prices adjust based on order imbalances and not just completed trades or some items will sit forever. And only 6 slots is really not enough.
  18. You are correct, there is no browsing possible. You can place a sell offer or you can place a buy offer. And the system will match the offers and make the transaction. This is going to be a big problem.. at least at first and perhaps beyond that. Suppose I offer to sell a widget at 10k and someone else offers to buy at 9k. We might both be willing to compromise at 9.5k but right now neither of us can find out that the other even exists.
  19. Am I just missing it or is there no way to just browse what is being offered for sale without putting in a buy offer?
  20. Interesting. Forcing people into trading ranges eliminates many abuses. It also will make the market rather slow to adjust at first....
  21. I think someone put it best who said that some people call anyone lower level than they are a "noob" and anyone higher level a "no-lifer". Ignore the latter as you would the former, IMO.
  22. We see thread after thread like this, and I just don't get what the point is. There's no evidence this is going to happen at all, so what's there to discuss?
  23. BTW I just looked over that video. Anyone who thinks it proves anything is far too easily convinced.
  24. Let's be realistic folks. ALL customer service departments use form letters and templates. Since most queries fall into a small number of standard categories, this greatly cuts down on the amount of time wasted typing the same things over again. If CS didn't use templates it would be even worse than it is. The trick is knowing when and how to use them. There's nothing wrong with them sending a stock answer to a standard question. The problem is when, say, someone gets banned for something that wasn't against the rules, and when they complain they get "we have conclusive evidence you were in control of your account" -- which is irrelevant.
  25. Evaluating the GS and comparing it to weapons like the whip is not as simple as saying one is X% faster and the other hits Y% harder. It really depends on a lot of different factors: PvP or PvM, defence levels, whether prayer is a factor, the type of GS and more. In terms of comparing GS types.. here too it all depends. For example, in the dueling tournament testing I did, I often fought in tournaments with no food or potions and no healing between rounds. Here, the SGS is EASILY the best weapon in the game. OTOH, if food and healing are enabled, a different GS might be better, or even just using your specs with a DDS. The Armadyl is worse than the Sara in most cases for a simple reason: the Armadyl gives a 25% bonus to damage but the Sara gives a *50%* bonus in healing. That's double the HP. Yes, the Armadyl can theoretically increase your chances of getting a fast KO, but it's also just as likely that you hit dreck with it, as I usually do. The Sara also has a "guaranteed minimum" as long as you don't hit 0, which the Armadyl lacks. The Bandos is also worth mentioning; if you get a good hit it can end a duel.
