  1. For those interested, I just updated the article with a few screenshots I couldn't post yesterday. This is perhaps one of the more telling ones...
  2. Are you talking about the ranking system? If so, I think the difference here is that with a MtG tournament system your ranking changes only slowly, where here it can change very fast.
  3. Thanks for all the comments... texasmd91, that's a great idea. I've never done RSS so have no idea what to do but I'll research it and hopefully find a tool that will let me set up a feed. ~q
  4. The simple answer is yes, it is overrated. The Sara GS is better for nearly everything.. even dueling in many cases.
  5. TruthScape Special Reports - Dueling Tournaments - Not Ready for Prime Time I have just published a review of the new dueling tournament system on my site. It's too long to duplicate here in full, but for the sake of promoting discussion here, I am including a couple of sections: the overview at the start, and the recommendations/conclusions near the end. In the full review there are several more pages that lay out all of the (many) problems with this feature. Note that this article is about the new tournament system and NOT the changes to 1-on-1 dueling, so please try to keep that out of this thread; it's been discussed enough elsewhere. Thanks. ~q Dueling Tournaments - A Great Idea, Poorly Implemented The general idea behind dueling tournaments is an excellent one: it expands on the existing one-on-one duel concept to allow structured tournaments containing many players. The idea is to replicate the concept of tournaments that take place in sports like tennis or the playoffs in hockey or football, with the better players advancing to face off against each other with one eventual winner. I̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ll start here with a brief overview of the system for the benefit of those who haven̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t tried it yet, and also provide a summary of the problems. I̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ll get into more detail on both features and issues later in the report. Overview of the Tournament System The tournaments are automatically started and run by the game about every 10 minutes, and only operate on certain worlds; these are tagged in the server list, so you can see which ones are available when you start up RuneScape. There are four different ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬Åregistrars̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃâÃ
  6. I'm level 121 and you have NO idea what you are talking about. Clearly you haven't even tried the tournament system more than once or twice or you'd understand what a total fiasco it is.
  7. Don't bother unless you enjoy wasting money and time and pulling your hair out in frustration. It's a mess.
  8. They changed the message that they say when it is closed now. It tells you to try world 54, 83, 114 or 129. I am on world 54 and both registrars 3 and 4 are closed and it is telling me to try world 54. Does anyone at QA actually do anything?
  9. On the RSOF, a Jagex mod just said that he was "all for the update as staking was not intend to be a massive money earner."
  10. Jagex just put the ulterior motives theory right back on the table. From the sticky in Rants, page 3177: Some honesty, pl0x?
  11. Thanks. Unfortunately this got moved so few people will see it. I guess someone decided my tone was too harsh -- I'm rather frustrated from spending the last hour or so alternating between world hopping, standing around and getting slaughtered by level 126s -- and turfed it here. I'll write things up more calmly tomorrow.
  12. The new dueling tournament system is a gigantic MESS. Oh, the tournaments can be fun, but there are SO many problems with the way they are implemented that after now having been in several dozen of them, I am leaving and not coming back until they revamp the system. It would appear that the elimination of 1v1 staking, arguably the worst feature removal in the history of the game, has been paired with what is easily the worst implemented and least thoroughly tested update in the history of the game. If any of you have only done one or two duels you won't really understand exactly how frustrating this new feature is to those who have done it for a while. Just a small list of the ridiculous problems with this system: 1. It's almost impossible to find a world where registrar 3 is open, reg 4 is even worse. At BEST there is one tourny going on ANYWHERE in the game. Go to any world but 54 and there are people standing around irritated that they can't even get a game going. 2. Okay, you get lucky and find a tourney on a world. You sign up and spend 8 minutes getting your equip ready, taking out money, planning your inventory -- and then the tournament is cancelled. WHY? 3. Ditto #2 except being kidnapped by a random 5 seconds before the tournament starts. 4. Since there are so few games, all of the top players are in one place on world 54 so second-tier players have ZERO chance to win. 5. You spend almost all of your time standing around, standing around, standing around. Oh, you just logged in to the only server with a tourny going, the current wait time is 9 minutes for a set of rules containing food and potions, you don't feel like blowing 100k on supplies only to lose, and the next game is mage-only and you're on lunars? Gee sorry, you'll be waiting HALF AN HOUR until your next duel. And if you're thinking of world hopping, see #1 and #2. 6. Whoever thought up "max current health" as a tiebreaker obviously put NO thought into that decision whatsoever. I can do 500 points of damage to my opponent's 50, but if at the end he quaffs a bunch of brews and throws a d bow spec at me, I lose. This was tested? 7. So you spend 60k on potions and food and valiantly fought to the final, where you got some guy who is 5 levels higher than you down to 2 hp before losing... here's your reward: NADA. 8. "Jackpots up to 64 million!" Bzzt. 90% of the time even the tier 4 duels are 20k or less per entrant. 9. Low-level players have absolutely no prayer in this system. None. And jagex's "it will all sort itself out in a few days" is baloney. Is that all? Nope, just what I could think of quickly. I'm hoping Jagex changes a few things tomorrow. If not, I'll write up in more detail just how awful a job they did on this half-baked feature, which is such a shame because of the great potential it has. Jagex has no beta testing program -- and it shows. This update is an embarassment.
  13. This was amusing untl the gay bashing started. Now it's just sad.
  14. Homophobia, unfortunately. ~q (not gay, already married, but still.)
  15. Thank you, thank you, I love you all!
  16. I said IF the other person noticed the mistake. If neither notices, then no harm and no foul. That's the point about character being what you do when nobody is watching. I'm not religious. I just believe in the Golden Rule and treating people fairly. However, since you've openly admitted that you are dishonest, anyone who actually IS honest would automatically be holier than thou.
  17. The other player didn't realize he had put up too much, so it was not an informed decision to give him 10 times as much. It's similar to a case where a cashier gives you back too much change. If you take it, you're dishonest. The reason is honesty. The motto of the childish and unethical.
  18. Inflation refers to a systemic increase in prices in an economy. There is no inflation in Runescape. Prices on rares go down due to updates because they are run up speculators. It's essentially a bubble market and is sensitive to these changes.
  19. If you know someone has made a big mistake in your favor and you don't correct it, you are cheating them. The example in this case is no different than finding a wallet on the ground with money in it and ID, and choosing to keep the money rather than returning it. Character is all about what you do when nobody is watching.
  20. This is awful! I'm so mad I could scream. Summoning is going to suck, just SUCK! I hate you jadex! Me and all my friends are canceling our membership now so this will cost you money! /sarcasm (Hey, I wanted to be the first at *something*. :D)
  21. Some do. But the current mess is Jagex's fault, for burying its collective head in the sand rather than biting the bullet years ago and fixing the problem.
  22. Thanks, tryto. As a reminder, this thread is about the issues raised in my article, and not about me.
  23. People who can't understand analogies probably shouldn't read my articles. Suffice to say that you completely missed the point.
  24. The ITEMS need to go, not the people. And for God's sake will you STOP with the insults?
