  1. Good luck with 99 thief! That was a 99 I'd wanted for a long time, but I got lazy and stopped at 95...=P Pretty nice overall stats, too. Ever thought about getting all stats 73+?
  2. Good luck! Good to see another straight skiller around every once in a while...although I would claim that your stats trump mine.
  3. Good luck with your goals! I'm currently going for all 80+ as well as 99 cooking, so I'm sort of in the same boat with you. =P
  4. Just because the majority of people say it whereever you live doesn't make it grammatically correct. You've still not answered my point - there is no such thing as a mathematic. There is such a thing as mathematics. Therefore, logic would follow for the abbreviation to be "maths", not "math". It was a flippent point anyway. If that's the only hole you can pick in my post, then I think I did pretty darn good. The form "maths" is just as much a regional preference as "math" is. Both grew out of the full term, much as the original term (which, if you'll notice, is mathematic) was derived from the Greek word. There may not be a common-usage word "mathematic" currently (other than as a corruption of "mathematical"), however, you cannot separate that term from the origin of the word itself. It's the same idea as the difference between telly and TV. Which one is incorrect? Neither, as far as colloquial speakers go. Anyway, continue article-bashing now.
  5. Don't you love commercialism? In 2004/05, these would be the people who don't have enough money to even think about the members game, find the free game, get bored with the free game, and leave after 2 weeks. Of course, these are the people who get attracted to these types of games easily, and so now that there are proportionally many many more of them, a bunch are going to slip through the cracks and stay around for months and months and months. I've never even thought about turning private chat (and sometimes even public chat) on for years now. It's just the way the game's going, I suppose. At least I can take some comfort that it wasn't Jagex (well, probably indirectly, but not directly) that has killed this aspect of the game.
  6. I was casting superglass make a couple days ago, when a level120 came up to me and asked what I was doing. I looked him up; he had about 1200 total, so I decided to have some fun and said I was woodcutting Jagex's secret grove of magic trees - and then he reported me (apparently).
  7. Agility cape - first 99, won't change it probably for years to come.
  8. First off, I want to say that I am a tried-and-true Grammar Nazi. Nobody who uses "plz" sees skillcape emotes from me. But in any case, the article does somewhat miss the point. Sure, there are many basic educational aspects of the entire game, but there are several other benefits (whether directly related to most traditional education systems or not) that I can find in the game, some of which I've seen mentioned already here (only read the first and last page of topic though): 1. There's no denying the economic model of RS, if you take the time to learn from it. Since there are no bugaboos brought around by the government (Jagex) such as subsidies or transaction taxes, the economic principles are straight out of chapter 1 of your standard econ textbook - supply and demand. Construction skill is released - immediately, the demand drops for rare items as people turn to this money-consuming skill. On the other side, supply increases somewhat, as people try to jettison money to start training and adding new things to their houses. (This probably has a lesser impact on the prices, as many people, sensing the inevitable, will hold on to their santas and such until the construction craze is over.) Therefore, with a dramatic crash in supply and, at the very least, nowhere close of a drop in demand, whoosh go the prices. On a different economic note, one which I don't think anybody has brought up, it's very interesting to study the socioeconomic levels of the haves and the have-nots in the game. For those of you who recognize Lorentz and Gini, the upper fifth of the population, even excluding the members' worlds, still holds well over 90% of the money. There is definitely upward mobility in the game, which usually comes only by hard work (or lots of boring skills, depending on who you ask). There's also the chance upward mobility (z0mg my frend quit rs and gev me pee hat (read: I might be a hacker!)), mostly balanced by the chance downward mobility (waaaah i hackd and quit rs now bai). Take anything from a macroeconomics textbook and see if there's an analogue to major (and even minor) concepts discussed, and you'll find that the concepts mirror each other quite closely. On a side note, notice which types of people seem to always earn the most money or have the highest skills as compared to those people who brag about playing since 2001, yet still have 301 total and 39 combat. 2. One skill that can't be learned overnight is time management. How many people have friends who say "omg man i want full set of this armr" and then follow you around, doing nothing but talking to you for hours on end? If you know exactly what you want, then you can set your mind on getting it - and it's a lot easier to figure out for the first time when you're going for a dragon chain as opposed to a quota of, say, 40 carpets sold in a day. (Not that everybody in the game is going to grow up to be carpet salesmen...that would be just a slight bit odd.) Productivity is the buzzword when it comes to economic success in the global market, it seems; although it might not seem like a lot, it really does help a lot later in life. There are some things with value in the article, definitely. I've more than doubled my typing speed from 51 to 107 words per minute (which has been absolutely critical for both my studies in music and chemistry), and kept my mental math skills at a level that is relatively good for personal use. (For what it's worth, I avoid using calculators as much as possible, although perhaps the most ironically, I was having trouble with gem crafting experience amounts with the number of gems I have now, and only found this article on my way to the crafting skill planner.) Anyway, having said all that, I still do believe that the internet is quite directly contributing to the decline of modern society, mostly stemming from the fact that an entire generation of Americans (and to a lesser extent, the rest of the world) have become completely addicted and (myself included) cannot bear to part with any part of it, even its sometimes harsh idiosyncrasies. dump> Sorry about that. Continue.
  9. ohnoes bad cop herted my felings    But seriously, I was very interested as to how you would actually review it, since it really isn't a story at all (The first time I posted it on the official forums, I was told to put it in Locations). Thanks. =P
  10. I see my name on here...=P I don't have a "story" per se, so I'm not sure if mine fits. It's not exactly the type of thing you'd give a "Legend" ranking to or anything...If you could, take a look at it, that would be great. Thanks. EDIT: I changed my title for future (not necessarily connected) installments, it's now "Runescape Guidestories".
  11. Yep, less than a month to go. Definitely withing easy distance of 94 thieving (~150k) and 81 crafting (20k) for tomorrow.
  12. You seem to have answered yourself perfectly well here. I'll move on. Tell me then how I can guarantee not having a name that is being used or very close to not being used ingame by somebody, and I'll gladly use it. Oh, I get it. Plays don't tell stories, right? If so, get a moderator in here. If you had to ask...
  13. noob I mean... Would you rather that the conversations went something like: "Why excuse me sir, do you have a spare tuna that I could possibly feed to my cat?" "Why no sir, I do not happen to have any, even though I seem to have 27 in my inventory right here!" Even in a work of realistic fiction, events tend to mirror real life. Plenty of the stories in this board are events that could have possibly happened to anybody in real life, and yet they are not locked. As for the state of the RS economy, I'm extremely sorry that I've commented on the *****mary ********** that the guy is looking for, and that all economies of scale are considered part of the entire RS economy. If you want my thesis of the RS economy, I can give it to you. This is hardly it. If you need further proof:
  14. Oh noes! =O Updated front, looking for battlestaff sellers if anybody is interested.
  15. Hey, look what I found from the days I thought I was far cooler than I really was! Bump.
