  1. The definition of a 'well-rounded' life is also up for grabs nowadays. While I am at school, I live 600 miles away from my original hometown and most of my friends, and 1400 miles away from my girlfriend. Unless I proposed to run up a ginormous phone bill (or travel expenses), the easiest way to keep in touch is over the computer. (I run up a decent amount of airline bills regardless...) Due to my field of study, I also spend a lot of time on the computer. I might have RS up and running in the background, sort of afk fishing or something similar. Because of this, I might end up on RS 30-35 hours a week - but I'm only really 'in the game' for 15-20 hours. Add that to about 7 hours of classes, ~7 hours of teaching duties (more during test weeks), and maybe 20 or so hours of writing, and I still have plenty of time to do whatever I want to do with my life. Depending on what you do for a living, it's still quite possible to log lots of online time.
  2. My house only exists to give me construction levels. I have a kitchen, a parlor, a dining room, 2 bedrooms, and a dungeon for dungeon doors. Only nine more levels until I'm done with the house forever...
  3. Give me better numbers and I'll adjust the post. The point still stands though, that it would take 8 straight years or thereabouts.
  4. Agility: 99 Amount of run at -35kg: 183 seconds Full restore at musician: 9 seconds Even so, I use a cannon often, so sometimes I do wish I had some sort of other energy restoration method.
  5. Excl: I made a separate account for my video as well - I suppose people have their reasons for doing so. (Mine happens to be that I told my girlfriend I quit...XD) All of those videos are good, although I'm not so sure about some of their chances since a lot of them seem to be carried by the quality of production, which Jagex has implied that they're going to try to ignore. I guess we'll just have to see...
  6. If they truly go for original ideas as their main criterion, a lot of popular videos will NOT be included in the top 5. Excl's video is the same idea as several others. Sosolid2k's video is interesting but not very original. Sei_Seii's contribution is also well-produced but is just a simple music video in the end. All of the Runescape News videos would probably be thrown out. It'll be interesting to see how it does end up turning out, though. Public support they say has factored into it, which means any of those videos could easily sneak through. Support mine!!! haha EDIT: is somewhat poorly produced, but scores lots of originality points. Thoughts?
  7. I still do NOT understand how agility is considered a 'slow' skill. Why not try to answer this question mathematically? I'm a skiller, so I'm going to need somebody else to fill in the approximate xp rates for slayer and summoning. 200m in slayer (fastest method: uber melee + cannon) would take care of 200m in Attack, Strength, Defence, and Hits, and possibly a good chunk of Ranged as well. For the purposes of calculation, we can assume you were lucky enough to have cannoned JUST enough for you to still reach 200m in ASDH just -barely- and still extract the maximum cannoning xp. This would equal out to 133,333,333 ranged xp. (Does anybody know the approximate rate for cannon + melee for slayer?) For the skills, though: Mining -Powermining granite - 60k an hour (extremely difficult but possible speed) -Time to 200m: 3400 hours -Cost: Roughly 5m for Humidify casts Smithing -Addy plates with morphic hammers -Time to 200m: 1000 hours (800 if you spend double and just make addy plates) --Time to gain 3000 morphic hammers: 600 hours --Time to smith 32000 addy plates: 400 hours -Cost: 1200m (2400m for the double route) Fishing -Barbarian fishing - 55-60k an hour -Time to 200m: 3400 hours -Cost: 20m for feathers Cooking -Cooking sharks + gaunts - 210k per hour -Time to 200m: 950 hours -Cost: 20m Woodcutting -Teaks + inferno adze - 100k per hour -Time to 200m: 2000 hours -Cost: 0 Firemaking (already at 70m firemaking due to woodcutting) -Magic logs - 400k per hour -Time to 200m: 330 hours -Cost: 520m Farming, method I -Torstol + magic + calquat + palm --10 herb runs a day + 3 magic runs + 1.5 palm runs + 1 calquat = 383k xp a day -Time to 200m: 75min a day over 530 days (1 1/2 years, 650 hours) -Cost: 3.9m per day = 2000m total OR Farming, method II -Vinesweeper + digging slave - 50k an hour -Time to 200m: 4000 hours -Cost: Wages + 25m for misplaced flags Agility -Barbarian ext course - 71k an hour -Time to 200m: 2800 hours -Cost: 0 Herblore -Antifires from unfinished - 440k an hour -Time to 200m: 450 hours -Cost: 2900m Thieving -Plunder - 240k an hour -Time to 200m: 820 hours -Cost: 8m for food Crafting -Air bstaves - 380k an hour -Time to 200m: 530 hours -Cost: 600m Fletching -Cutting magic longs - 130k an hour?? (please confirm or adjust) -Time to 200m: 1500 hours -Cost: 140m Hunter -Red chins - 100k an hour -Time to 200m: 2000 hours -Cost: Profit of 600m Runecrafting -ZMI - 40-45k an hour -Time to 200m: 4500 hours -Cost: Profit of 1200m Construction -Oak dungeon doors + SC - 285k an hour -Time to 200m: 1500 hours --Obtaining 4000 SC hammers: 800 hours --Using hammers: 700 hours -Cost: 1000m Magic -Ice barraging rock lobsters - 100-110k per hour -Time to 200m: 1900 hours -Cost: 2000m Ranged (already 133m from slayer) -Red chins: 230k an hour -Time to 200m: 300 hours -Cost: High and unknown (anybody?) Slayer (and ASDH + ranged) -Time to 200m: The last time I trained slayer using melee was April 2005. Help on xp rates would be appreciated -Cost: Probably in the 200-400m range (depending on how drops offset the cost of cannonballs and any degrading armor) Summoning -I am 1 summoning. Help on xp rates is appreciated Probably a good idea to tack on about 200 hours or so onto the beginning of this to get a character situated and into the midlevels. Totals: (missing some of the combat cost/time info) Time: Roughly 28,000 hours plus time for maxing slayer + summ - estimate of 35000 hours Cost: Roughly 9000m plus cost for ranged and summoning - estimate of 12 billion geepees. This could probably be cut to 6-9 billion if you were willing to go up to 40000 hours of time. So there you have it. 40000 hours (plus maybe another 5000-10000 for making all that money) would be 3000 days at 15 hours a day, or about 8 years.
  8. Man, now everybody's doing agility. From a person who did 99 at Ape when it was still hot off the presses, good luck! It's not that difficult if you're in the right mindset. (I don't think I left the course the entire month of July '06...haha)
  9. Good luck! You seem to be getting decently close... Glad to see not everybody on here does combat blogs. XD 2200's nothing to sneer at, either.
  10. Good luck! This was one of those achievements that I had wanted to get long ago before I started getting skill 99s - still might make slayer 99 before any combats if I have my way (74 hp, nearly 83 slayer, so that's not an issue if I don't want to make it one). No SW for me either. Again, good luck!
  11. Woo, I'm back. Sort of. Going to try to stay here again, but I'm going to need support this time to stay attached, haha. Most recent level:
  12. On the surface, the economy is capitalist, but it's based on some underlying communist ideals (the idea that everybody's price for something is identical, plus or minus a narrow range, completely removes one important aspect of a capitalist system, misinformation, from the mix). As a skiller, my three pillars would be: Agility Construction Firemaking but no, seriously, I'd say: Skills Unique and effective (not necessarily good) market system Possible amounts of variation in involvement with other players
  13. I felt the need to lay the groundwork to make the point, and I did get a bit carried away. Either way, Jagex is sending blatantly mixed messages about the state of merchanting and how, if at all, it should be carried out. Jagex did not condemn selling items at whatever price you wanted to try to before the trade limits, but the Grand Exchange implies that merchanting is not meant to be done in the form that it was pre-'08. Before I descend into another elongated rant, all I will say is that pure skilling is often held in higher regard than merchanting to finance skills, whether or not one is more effective than the other. I'm one of those who would rather follow that example than perhaps try to make a quicker buck.
  14. Well, everybody who's in is in. I liked the pirates video - it could be a pretty strong 3-minute video eventually.
  15. What's GOP? All it is is that barriers and combat gear/combat is disallowed.
  16. I resent how long people assume things like farming and agility would take. If somebody is good at Minesweeper, farming is easily trainable at 30k an hour should it be the only skill left, and since you're likely to be flush with cash at that point, up to 50k an hour if you're willing to hire somebody to just dig for you at Vinesweeper. As the former Vinesweeper points record holder, I can say for sure that without any assistance, it's not difficult to get a million points a week without playing obsessively (and if somebody does, you could get well over half a million a day). Agility is twice as fast now as it was just five months ago, with the new barbarian extended course. As a former top-10 agiler, I have no idea why agility is considered a much harder skill than fishing when in truth it is at least 50% faster. (Both skills received major upgrades recently, with the extended courses vs. barbarian fishing.) I was debating going for 50m, 100m, or even 200m in agility once the barbarian course came out, but I have other things that I want to finish up before I even consider doing so. Remember, certain people were able to max in two years or less. That includes a lot of slower training at lower levels. If you consider that those people already likely have higher combat skills than at 13m, you could probably max all 24 skills to 200m within 10-15 years.
  17. I can trade you... ...but I'd have to charge (due to the trade limit, of course)
  18. It's a pretty decent video, although it's really carried by the editing. The song itself is kind of grating. This is one other decent quality video that I found that actually made me laugh (which is more than I can say for 98% of the videos)... What do you guys think about this video or ? It's pretty decent, but I can't decide whether they're just cute or if either of them has actually got an outside shot.
  19. I was forced to borrow a red phat once because my friend thought it would go with my cape...XD
  20. Over/under for getting all the videos added is September 1st. =P I'm taking the over. Mine was uploaded the 22nd, so I'm still safe in terms of other videos' upload dates... EDIT: Fedorca, I was so hoping for a full Rick Astley music video.
  21. ur a noob no lifer noob I mean, uh, if you have good reason for doing so, then you have good reason for doing so. I think they're talking specifically about those people who seem to not really have any reason, if I'm not mistaken.
  22. For a while, rares were the only guaranteed source of longterm profit. Back in a former life, I merched these over the long term to the tune of roughly 15m (and then got hacked and turned against merching), which was a crapton of money back in RSC. I bought a santa for personal enjoyment back in late '05 at 4.8m, and it nearly tripled in value to 12.9m on the day before construction came out (I believe this was roughly May '06). Nowadays, I have no idea, though, and since my cash reserves are never above around 5m, I have no interest.
  23. As a lifelong skiller (same combat level for 4 1/2 years), my beefs might be a bit different than others (since I have no regard for the combat triangle or PvP): 1. The grand exchange and all its associated things (merch clans, trade limits, the trading of things that once needed to essentially be made yourself - like quest items or trading sticks, massive inflation that would have been slowed by normal consumer misinformation through non-GE trades, and the focus of the game on Varrock, an otherwise fairly useless town for repeat visits) 2. The grand exchange and all its associated things (merch clans, trade limits, the trading of things that once needed to essentially be made yourself - like quest items or trading sticks, massive inflation that would have been slowed by normal consumer misinformation through non-GE trades, and the focus of the game on Varrock, an otherwise fairly useless town for repeat visits) 3. The constant updates of skills to make them easier for lazy people (skill-x, sc tools, methods that are too fast to be taken seriously) 4. The lack of American, English, and Australian people who can actually speak English properly (seriously, my friends on this game with the best knowledge of the English language usually have English as their 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th language) 5. People who call themselves skillers when 80% of their xp is still combat-based, and think they know how to train skills when they don't. (6. Runecrafting. Effing annoying :D ) I can't judge people for being combat-centric, since that's one way for the game to be played 'properly'. However, I can't possibly condone people who get 137 combat, then buy a single 99 and call themselves skillers. Somebody with 99 herblore is less of a skiller than somebody with all of their noncombat skills at 60, especially at higher combat. Seriously, if slayer is one of your top five noncombat skills, you shouldn't even think about being called a skiller. (Unless, of course, your slayer is higher than your combat.) If I can reach 2000 total with 283 fewer combat-related levels than you can, 2000 total does NOT qualify you to say you're a skiller. If you have 99 cooking + 99 fletching + 138 combat, you can AVERAGE 70 in the other 13 skills - giving those 13 a total of 10 million xp, fewer than the amount of summoning xp you have. Just. No. Tangential and unnecessary rant over XD
  24. Yay for being the cynic. People are naturally self-centered. Anything that somebody else does better has to be because somebody cheated or they're uncool. This is the internet. It's probably the only thing you can take for granted on here.
