Guitar Hero/Rock Band Discussion thread
I would imagine that Peter Frampton would be interesting to sing. I don't dislike the setlist, though they could have chosen better songs from EoDM, Weezer, and Smashing Pumpkins and there was no need at all to even have Duran Duran on there when the same song is on RB2 -.- And ten days of no technology put a bit of a dent in my playing skill. But only on RB2; GHWT was fine. I take that as evidence of the inherent wrongness of rectangular notes. I will still be playing a lot more RB though. DLC is ftw.

What's your RL fighting style?
Maybe just because I'm such a nice guy, but no one has ever tried to start a fight with me and I certainly don't go around picking them. Where's the love?

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince [REVIEW]
I'm always left wondering when they throw easter eggs like that in whether the casual watchers/people who haven't read the book get it at all. I don't think people are apt to even recognize Tonks, much less know anything about her :\ Even Lupin has taken a backseat, and after being absent from GoF I wouldn't be surprised if viewers didn't know who he was either.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince [REVIEW]
Best movie so far by a mile. I really can't find much to complain about besides the lack of closure. What little there is in the book is pretty much dropped. But overall it was very well done. Didn't feel at all like two and a half hours, which is quite an accomplishment considering how low-key the whole story is. Compared to OotP, which just blasted through everything and took a hit for it. And I can see Harry gaining access to Dumbledore's collection of memories in the next movie, and making the educated guesses Dumbledore made in the book for himself. They've got plenty of room for it with two movies left.

Gamestop/EBGames
Uh, I buy used whenever I can. I've never had a problem with a used game and they won't exactly accept a trade-in of a scratched disk or something, so the games aren't likely to be defective anyway. They do give you a pittance for trade-ins but that's business.

Boy Scouts...
Funnily enough this was posted while I was away on a Boy Scout backpacking trip. (Not Philmont, we have our own veteran leader guy who plans his own high adventure trips, and they are awesome. Wyoming this year.) Anyway, you can't really make judgments on the entire organization based on your one troop, because they are much like labor unions in that there are varying degrees of awesomess/suckiness. I happen to be in a great troop that goes on trips every month except December (holidays) and just recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. I, along with about five others, am currently working on my Eagle project. For the most part our leaders are good and there isn't much of a bureaucracy. As for the religion/gay thing, it's don't ask, don't tell. There's not even a guaranteed chance you'll be kicked out even if you do spread it around that you're gay/athiest. Boy Scouts aren't exclusively conservative. We open each meeting with the pledges and a prayer, but several people don't say the rote Catholic prayers and no one gives a crap. I would really consider switching troops if you're really having problems (which by the sound of it you are), because there are much better ones out there.

Reading
I read Jurassic Park during my extremely long car ride across the country . . . Honestly I don't think it's that great. Sure, it raises some great ethical questions (duh, I read it for Bioethics class) but when the only characters of any interest are Malcolm and Hammond, the mouthpieces for the opposing sides of the central question, you have a problem as far as a novel goes. I never even got any kind of thrill in when the freaking VELOCIRAPTORS attacked. I mean, this is supposed to be a thriller, right? All that aspect really managed to do was spawn a running joke on my backpacking trip (forget the bears, watch out for velociraptors!) When I finished that I borrowed The Dragon Never Sleeps by Glen Cook from a fellow backpacker. Terrible beyond words. After 70 pages I still didn't understand half of what was going on. Not a good idea in any kind of novel, but especially a sci-fi one.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince [REVIEW]
Half-Blood Prince is by far my favorite book. Haven't seen the movie yet, and I may end up liking/not liking it for entirely different reasons than I like the book . . . mainly the character development and exploration of Voldemort's past and motivations (only 2 memories? Weak.)

Guitar Hero/Rock Band Discussion thread
I traded in a bunch of crap games and bought a used copy of RB2 with the credit. Now that I actually own it I bought some DLC. My SD card is only 1 GB so I have to watch the space, but I'm a happy camper. Caprici di Diablo is fun 8-)

HEROES SPOILER!!
It's Heroes we're talking about. Claire, who has a history of macking (male) guest stars for no real reason, is suddenly going lesbian. Why can't Elle come back from the dead and be lesbian? She could even be a zombie. Some necrophilia for ya.

Regarding the birth control statistics, I remember there being a table of the different methods in my AP Bio book. Condoms were around 95%, the pill a bit higher (98%).

The Conduit
That review is by the same dude that was acting like a total [developmentally delayed] with the controls in the Quick Look video Darkdude posted. It (the video) made me want to bash my head against a wall. The game looks pretty disappointing though, and since the best aspect appears to be the multiplayer and I have no wireless connection I think I'll pass.

Manga/Anime Discussion
You haven't seen FMA? That's kinda surprising. I'm not a huge anime freak but I love FMA. Maybe because it has a western fantasy setting . . . it's easier to get into for the casual anime viewer. And I'm so glad for the second anime following the manga :D You should definitely watch the original 51 episode series first though. The episodes of Brotherhood (English name for 2nd series) so far are a bit rushed since they share material with the original. That'll change next episode

Reading
I've also heard bad things about the latter Dark Tower books. I really loved the first three, and four is pretty good. Not finished with it yet, but it's almost entirely flashback. There was a huge gap in publishing between the first four and the last three, so that might have had something to do with it. I can pretty easily see why King would have stopped for a while if Wizard and Glass was as far as he had solid planning for. Use this book for all the backstory, then what? The more I think about Eddings now the worse I think he is. It was a pretty easy read, and I had all these nagging issues that didn't really hit home until I got to the end of the books I had.

Micheal Jackson dies of heart attack
Just saw the CBS report. I think we can safely say he's dead.

Micheal Jackson dies of heart attack
He's apparently still alive but in bad condition. Still, damn. EDIT: Meaning unconfirmed reports of "bad shape" and "not looking good."

Manga/Anime Discussion
I just watched the first two episodes of the new Fullmetal Alchemist series. Really excited to see this one follow the manga all the way to the end. It started out pretty strong, although you can tell it caters to the people who have at least already seen the first anime. They're rushing through the parts that are the same between the two. Hopefully it will slow down and flesh out once they hit Greed.

Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen
Heh it has a 22% on Rotten Tomatoes. Not that metascores are the be-all, end-all, but really. That's pretty bad.

Today...
Unless you're pretty much completely blind, you can still drive, mate. It's just that it will say on your liscense that you must wear corrective lenses to drive. I don't think they would forbid anyone with glasses from driving, that's like half the population and growing. It says on the back of your license (or atleast it does here): Conditions: 01 - Corrective Lenses I think you also are required to have a rearview mirror. Might seem silly but I technically wasn't allowed to drive my dad's truck cuz his broke off like 10 years ago. I dunno though, because I have a hearing impairment not eyesight. But it's probably the same.

Reading
Already finished reading one of my summer books, Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison. Took me a while to get into the writing style, but once it clicked I couldn't put the book down. Also read Volume 1 (books 1-3) of The Belgariad by David Eddings. Despite recommendations, including rave reviews from here on TIF, I found the books pretty bad and have no desire to finish the series. Currently into Wizard and Glass (Dark Tower IV.) Nice quality fantasy after reading Eddings.

Harry Potter vs. Twilight
What the [cabbage] is wrong with that? I see nothing strange at all, you can't expect every character in every book ever written to be heterosexual. Um, yeah. You can. It's not in the book, she just said it for no reason, and it has no effect on the story at all. So what was the point? She said it in answer to an interview question. It's not like she came out in the middle of a signing or something and went "HEY GUYS DUMBLEDORE IS GAY." I believe the first time she said anything about it was when she reviewed one of the movie scripts. The screenwriter added a scene where Dumbledore reminisces about a female crush he had as a kid. She crossed it out and wrote "Dumbledore's gay." The "big" announcement was in answer to a fan question, something about Dumbledore's romantic life.
