  1. I think the most important thing to understand if you want to write poetry is that every word is important. This guide does a good job in showing just how much depth there is to those few words and lines merely by having so many different things to talk about. A common mistake I see with poetry is that the writer does not discard their prose-mode thinking. Poetry is defined, if nothing else, by its structure and the way that unique structure creates meaning that can't be achieved through conventional prose. Every word you add to that structure contributes to the way the reader interprets the poem. I'm going to set a precedent here and offer up a short piece by myself for review. It's the second stanza of a larger poem that I plan to use as an epigram for a larger work . . . anyway: Above, below, mirrored they spread The shelter a cruel facade. The sun beats down indifferent And a dead tree gives no shade. I'm big on imagery, because to me, that's the best thing about poetry: the ability to create images and sensations with a few well-chosen words. I think I did a pretty decent job on this stanza, and I would love some feedback. I haven't had much on poetry. Also, sorry if it's hard to get a meaning out of. It's intended to be thematic of the work it precludes and is only part of a larger poem. But I don't want to post all of that publicly.

I don't know if you can absolve Ben of all the evil he's done just because he shows feelings for his own adopted daughter. I mean, he was planning to kill Locke and blasted Caesar with a shotgun even as he sought forgiveness for the death of the one person he ever cared about. So yes, he did show that he has the capacity for basic humanity and is not a bad egg through and through, but Alex was his daughter; he didn't show remorse for anyone else that he's wronged--besides Desmond. But there, him wanting Desmond to know he was sorry might be a hint that he actually does have a more universal feeling of remorse. He's still an enigma as far as I'm concerned. It will be interesting to see how he deals with being forced to take orders from Locke. The expression on his face when he told Locke "It let me live" was priceless.

I love how similar Ben's "judgment" by the monster was to Mr. Eko's. I always thought Mr. Eko's death seemed a bit random (he asked to be written out I believe) and a bit inconsistent with the monster's behavior at other times. It makes much more sense now :D I have a hunch we'll be getting a Richard flashback before it's all over, since he was probably there when all this Egyptian-like stuff was built. That will be something to see. Desmond beating the [cabbage] out of Ben was epic. As was Ben shooting Caesar with a sawed off shotgun from a few feet away.
  4. Yes. I've never even played with the Wii version of the RB strat.

Two good episodes in a row. This could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship. Or it could crash and burn.

You're in for one hell of an extended WTF moment. Seriously, half the Twihards hated Breaking Dawn. It's indescribable.
  8. If I could have any one wish granted, I'd wish that the entirety of North Korea, citizens, landmass and all, was sent to Europa. Permanently. Sweat to God. It's really not even funny any more, and it sure as hell ain't going to get any funnier. For the sake of the world, North Korea should not exist. You're so adorable :

Hi. My hair looks very yellow. This can be indexed if meol would be so kind.
  10. WT FCs #30-32 and they were a long time in coming. Played a random run of the whole set, re-FC'ed About a Girl and got this one :D -1 Livin' On a Prayer, so . . . Finally. And then . . . FINALLY.
  11. They don't glow in the dark, they glow when exposed to a certain wavelength, really glowing in the light (like a blacklight). Although scientists can manipulate the GFP (green fluorescent protein) to react to whatever light and glow whatever color they wish. We actually do have the potential to give people "superpowers." All that is needed is the right set of signals to cause a pluripotent cell (a cell that has not developed a specific function, a template, if you will) to grow into a specialized one of your choice, depending on the signals you give it. But that assumes that there is someone out there who has actually developed that kind of supercell to study and find the signals for. Right now the more practical application is finding all the signals for normal cells so we can cure genetic diseases. And I'm trying to piece this together from a lecture that I don't have the notes from on hand, so I might not be 100% accurate. I'm pretty sure I have the general idea right.

Well, interesting. I just took the ACT today. SAT was last month. They're both a bit of a joke to be honest. I scored a 221 on the PSAT at the beginning of the year which should qualify me as a National Merit Scholar or whatever that award is. Free money. Apparently my SAT scores should be coming back within a few days . . .
  13. really? then how are people able to lip read? Because they rely more completely on it than I do and have lived longer. It's just a pretty pointless thing to want to learn given the difficulty and the complete lack of practical use if you're not totally deaf.
  14. Having different viewpoints is crap? Yes, Christianity and Islams is somewhat similar, but they are also very different. Case in point being, I will have different viewpoints then your religion. I don't see how my stand of this is "[developmentally delayed] crap." I don't go around trying to argue with them on their religion or anything of that sort. I see that the post was removed. I wasn't addressing your post, but rather another that contained a poster about Islam. The poster I was referring to was little more than provocative slander. You can have your own viewpoint and espouse it all you want, but have the decency not to be deliberately offensive. Mutual respect is something to be valued on issues like this. Probably sounds a bit jumbled because I didn't realize the post was gone at first. Oh well, point still stands.
  15. Don't even attempt to learn to lip-read. I've lived with a hearing disability my entire life and still can't do it perfectly.

So, more or less the way a car crash holds your attention. I think the term is train wreck ;)

He just woke up from that. I guess the other survivors found him and brought him back to their little sick bay, where he was when Locke was brought to him. Hurley and Miles arguing about time travel made me smile. Nice case of the show acknowledging "yeah we know this is a bit confusing, hang in there."

Dude I had no idea what was going on in this thread until like 8 replies in. I thought you were referring to Goofy the Disney character and was wondering why you would want to 360 flip him.
  19. [EDIT] If anything, that^ is the kind of thing this is aimed at. [developmentally delayed]ed crap.
  20. I personally find Consolers of the Lonely a better album than Broken Boy Soldiers, but still

Hooray for double posts. Thought this would be good for people to know . . . http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2009/03/lost-exclusive.html Charlotte's age was a production mistake, a mix-up between the actress's age and the character's. The girl Daniel saw was actually her.
  23. Thread reminded me that I have attached earlobes. I'm homozygous recessive o:! Not a fan of piercings anywhere but ear and maybe belly button. And I don't tend to notice ear piercings anyway. Yeah I'm terrible like that.

Oh God that was so awkward reading my name in conjunction with a horny junior high kid. Don't make this some creepy Freud-fest. One guy and three apparently attractive girls who are now being suited up in bikinis, oh boy. Work on dialogue. Noah's (ack my name) attempt at bravery and the dude's response to it just sort of flopped. Firefox spell check says "ginormous" is a word, but I don't think you'll be taken very seriously using it.
  25. Dude I'm not in a bad mood. Rather happy at the moment. I don't care to check XBL because I don't have it and I really never thought you were lying. It's mainly crap like this . . . Haha.
