  1. Didn't read the bill, but it could lead to censorship. President doesn't like the *nasty* rumors on the internet going on about him, turns on the kill switch because of some terrific threat from abroad (made up, by the way).
  2. They might think that's what they're telling everyone, but I see it as obnoxious. Like saying "Respect me only because I'm gay!" You're not the first, you're not the last, and I'm not going to care or respect you more than some other random person. Maybe I'll put on my shirt: "Proud to be a bigot"
  3. Not sure where in my post you got that I was defending Don Imus... But there are many other examples, such as Harry Reid calling Barack Obama "Light Skinned" and " with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one". Religious communities hold legislative power in the men and women who represent the majority. I wish that was the case with the U.S.'s Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi. She claims to be Catholic, yet supports abortion rights and gay marriage. A big argument that many Catholics like to make, and probably many other religious is *I personally would never do it, but I don't want to impose my views on others*. That right there is separation of Church and State.
  4. I completely disagree with the part in bold. If Al Sharpton had his way, white people would be slaves. Since I don't believe Al Sharpton represents the majority of African Americans, let me put it this way: The only group in America that is forced to be politically correct is the "mainstream" Caucasian. Its oppression when making an observation or opinion of another culture (however well meaning) could make you lose your career. An example of this is Don Imus. EDIT: Actually, its mostly observations and opinions against the "big three" - Blacks, Gays, and Jews. There's less of a "firestorm" for other groups.
  5. My point is that the Catholic Church's position isn't to *hurt* gays, and that changing its definition of marriage would ruin the sacrament of marriage, and it would contradict many of its teachings. Unfortunately, there are people that can't see past the fact that the "Church hates gays". My point about respect is that asking for "gay marriage" has never been about respect, it has always been about money. Anyone that believes its about respect is delusional, or an idealist (same thing, really).
  6. Zomg the Catholic Church is so bigoted because it won't allow gays to marry!!!!!11!!!one Lets get something clear here: The Catholic Church teaches that sex is for procreation. That's the reason it is completely against contraceptives or abortifacients of any kind. They also teach that marriage is for procreation. The sacrament of marriage is for two people to go forth and multiply. Finally, they teach that everyone is called to be and remain chaste. This means if you're single, you're not masturbating, looking at pornography, having premarital sex, etc. This means if you're married, you're staying faithful to your spouse. It also means that when you do the "marital act", you finish to completion (no pulling out early). Why doesn't the Church allow gay people to marry? They can't naturally conceive a child, plain and simple. There is nothing hateful or bigoted about it. If the Church were to change its position, it would ruin the sacrament of marriage. As far as the list of things gay people can and can't do - I'm glad they made the point about money. That's all the purpose of the debate has ever been. The "rights" or rather, privileges of married people weren't always there. In the past 60 or so years in the United States, legislatures have enacted laws that make it easier for nuclear families (meaning Mom, Dad, and children) to live on a single parent's income, with the idea that the other would be at home raising the children. Some of the laws are common sense, and others are abstract and don't make much sense. Either way, its taken about 60 years for nuclear families to get these privileges. The only reason gay people want to be called *married* is so in one fell swoop they'll have all the *rights* of nuclear families, instead of the 60 years of legislating it took for everyone else to get. People like to tell me that "you can't legislate morality," and point to prohibition. I like to think you can't legislate respect - you can't forcefully make people respect each other. Even after getting "marriage," there will still be gay bashers or haters or bigots, whatever you want to call it. How long has it been since the civil rights movement?
  7. that's amazing that you can describe something that will launch fully 1 month from now. Does this mean we're beta testers? <_<
  8. He doesn't do damage quickly on you, the green portals do. I wouldn't mess around with the portals, I'd just tele out as soon as I got to ~40% hp. That way, I'm not wasting time letting him get higher defense while I eat... he doesn't get free hits either. @wormy - Its a better comparison between the exact same floors. Also, combat level makes a difference in the experience you get, so someone soloing with 60 combat will get more XP than someone soloing with 89 combat. Next time, compare f14 to f14. I'll post some stuff when I get the time.
  9. From the research I've done, the condition she had is very rare, and is genetic - meaning that she's lived with it all of her life. She's already had four children; which is to say that giving birth has not killed her. Cutting through the spin of the article you posted, and based on the very tiny amount of information given about this case, it is impossible to know what the absolute *correct* decision should have been. I wasn't on the panel that had all the information to help her make the decision. What I do know is that the nun that recommended abortion has been excommunicated (which is the only reason this is *newsworthy*), because the Catholic Church is very clear in its teachings - the ends never justify the means. An editorial was posted on a Catholic news site which outlined another option - wait another two to three months with the mother in the hospital in a minimum stress environment, then deliver via emergency cesaren section. A baby delivered at six months has about a 50% chance of survival, versus the near zero rate for abortion. What I do know is that she wasn't facing certain death; this wasn't the first high risk pregnancy and it won't be the last. I believe the doctors were covering their asses when they made the recommendation. But that's my opinion. @Roflzilla - It isn't a *potential* life. By any scientific definition, the baby is alive. I found an interesting article, relating to stress in pregnancy and miscarriages: http://news.suite101.com/article.cfm/miscarriages-may-have-a-911-link-study-reveals-a240840 An event like 9/11 that didn't *directly* affect pregnant women could be linked to a rise in miscarriages of male children.
  10. Or when they dock Hamas could seize control of the area and the ship, and unload it themselves. Search and seizure in deep water is much easier, and less risky. I realize this is kinda far back but... Then who is the bad guy? Hamas. Chalk one up for Israel. Not to mention that's not how Hamas operates, they prefer to suicide bomb or launch rockets and hide behind innocents. I think if they actually got in a firefight with Israel they'd get crushed. My original point is that Israel cannot let ships dock in that area before knowing whats in them.
  11. I think I'm going to buy a buncha water talis and wait for the next XP weekend. You could buy water talis and use it for summoning later.
  12. My point in bringing all of that up is that if everything is held equal, and all players were given 100m in coins, nothing would change price. Experience weekend was a good example of this - everyone used the cash pile they had hoarded up, rapidly changing the dynamics of the equation MV = PQ. The money supply didn't change, and I'll venture to say the total number of transactions increased only slightly. What does that leave? The velocity of money dramatically increasing (people opening up their vaults and tossing cash into the GE). Since more money instantly started circulating, the only thing the price level could do was rise up, dP/dt was positive so there was short term, hyper-inflation. As far as the real life situation goes, I think we've disproved Keyensian economic policy in a recession - governments cannot spend their way into a better economy. Trying to control the natural cycles of the economy Is like pushing on a rope. You can't change consumer confidence or make a bank more willing to lend by throwing money at them.
  13. I don't like him when I'm duoing with a skiller.... Stinks when he 1 hits them, then proceeds to eat to full. SAFER!
  14. Or when they dock Hamas could seize control of the area and the ship, and unload it themselves. Search and seizure in deep water is much easier, and less risky.
  15. If your combat level averages out to higher than 90, you'll get half the experience. I also believe that prestige and base experience are calculated to be the total number of rooms unlocked out of the maximum - in a small, its out of 16; in a medium, its out of 32; in a large, its out of 64. I've never done a large dungeon without a members only room. I've done medium dungeons that have given me more (and faster) total experience than large dungeons - the best medium dungeoneering experience I ever got was 25k, the best large duneoneering experience I ever got was 40k. I've also found that players tend to lag out or log out more during large raids, and getting from one side of the dungeon to the next is a royal pain in the ass. Also - you don't get less experience for having a lower combat level, you get more. Level 3's ALWAYS get more dungeoneering experience than I do. So if anything, Sonic would have gotten more.
  16. I think it was established that the incident occurred 24 miles away from their territorial waters - I don't think anyone is disputing that. Like I said before: If the ship gets close enough to land, you can toss the cargo off the ship that you want to smuggle, and let insiders pick it up for you. You also don't have to worry about corrupt government officials allowing unchecked items into the country. There are many more reasons why its better to search a ship in deep waters than it is to let it dock first, and search it later. I have very little sympathy for the people on the flotilla - Israel boarded the ship at a very late/early hour, probably the only people on deck were the ones that were resisting the troops. The actual "peace activists" would have been below deck and keeping their heads down, or asleep. The leaders of that ship provoked the boarding, and they attacked the boarders. I can't help but think how similar the incident is to the 72 year old woman that got tasered: http://www.foundingbloggers.com/wordpress/2009/06/another-cop-failure-72-year-old-woman-tasered-during-routine-traffic-stop/ Yes, the cop was in the wrong; but the Granny did nothing to help the situation.
  17. MV = PQ Inflation is defined as the rate of change in the price level of goods, i.e. dP / dt. This means that the amount of currency, M, is one variable in the entire thing. The inflation rate does not necessarily equal the rate of GP entering into the game. If you want to have a discussion about economics in runescape, at least get your terminology correct. If inflation is 2% per year, it isn't a problem for active players. If you're worried what inflation is doing to the value of your bank, don't hold any currency. The player with 5 gp on hand in your hyperinflation scenario should immediately buy a shrimp, problem solved. For every day transactions, it doesn't matter if 35,000 gps buy a rune scimitar or 70,000 gps buy a rune scimitar, as long as it takes the same amount of time to get that rune scimitar.
  18. Technically, no. Inflation means an increase in the supply of money. Often, prices rise because of an inflated supply of money but it isn't necessarily so. (emphasis added)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inflation Inflation does not have to be an increase in the supply of money. In the equation I posted (that's pretty well accepted by economists), MV = PQ That is to say, P = MV / Q. IF (and this is a big if) the velocity of money and the transactions that occurred were held constant, inflation would exactly equal the change in the supply of money. In the current economic crisis, its known that the supply of money has greatly expanded (and by some estimates tripled). Why haven't we seen inflation? The velocity with which the money is moving is practically zero. Can you please explain to me why it matters if a shrimp costs 5 gp or 6 gp?
  19. In the weeks leading up to EXP weekend, 1 gp bought less of everything. That is inflation. There's a well known equation that deals with inflation, M*V = P*Q I.E. the money supply multiplied with the velocity of money is equal to the average price level times the number of transactions. Leading up to EXP weekend, the money supply *really didn't change*, but the velocity of money did. The price level on everything increased, and the number of transactions *slightly increased*. When the price level on everything increases, that's inflation.
  20. One thing I think you've failed to realize is that money that is in game but is never traded doesn't contribute to inflation. You know, people with active accounts who have cash supplies and never use it. The biggest piece of evidence that I have to support this is the EXP weekend - in the days leading up to it, the price of everything miraculously rose, even though there was no new way to get money in game. After EXP weekend, trading came to a standstill and the price of everything reverted back to the pre-exp weekend amounts. The other way to "fix" inflation is to introduce more items, or make the rates of items entering in game faster. If the rate that rune scimitars entered the game increased two fold, the value of the GP would rise against the value of the rune scimitar. I've said this before, and I'll say it again: Inflation does not hurt active players. The price of everything might *rise*, but the time it takes to get everything doesn't change.
  21. I told him that in game, actually. Not much point to my post, to be honest. Just chatter.
  22. If Israel has the balls to do the same thing I'm not sure they will ever recover in the public eye. Even if no one gets hurt, because it would show they learned nothing. Edit: Not saying they shouldn't search it, but they should probably do it in a drastically different way... To the best of my knowledge, Ireland has no grievances with Israel, while Turkey does. Its about the same situation as if the United States tried to send a boatload of aid to North Korea, or if China tried to send a boatload of aid to North Korea. United States is the enemy, China is a neutral party. With one party, North Korea would have to worry about their intent (i.e. smuggling weapons or any other sort of malice versus actual aid.) Also - as much as I disagree with how the blockade is implemented, I believe that Israel has the right and the sovereignty as a nation to do whatever the heck they want off their coast. If a ship is in their territorial waters and they tell it to get the heck out,and the ship refuses to comply, they have every right as a nation to do however they see fit. To those of you that said Israel should have let the boat dock before searching... I completely disagree. Once the boat docks, its a thousand times easier to smuggle items into the country than it is when the water is deep and you're contained on board. Israel, I believe that you were in the wrong by two hours. I believe that the Marama was in the wrong as soon as they thumbed their nose at Israel.
  23. http://abcnews.go.com/WN/church-excommunicates-nun-authorized-emergency-abortion-save-mothers/story?id=10799745&cid=yahoo_pitchlist Her pregnancy did not cause her pulmonary hypertension, and aborting her child did not cure her pulmonary hypertension.
  24. lvl 3? Nope, he is not at all that cheating lvl 3 skiller and yes he got indeed level 99 and not 98 as suggested. He's not in bed with mason, pixiiii, d ungeoneer, imbued luck or whatever. I guess i've just met some jealous players here. -.- Not jealous. And if you think the skillers cheat, the lvl 90+'s that host them cheat too. They leech, we host. I'm guessing I've dungeoneered a couple times with him, since I use w61 too. In fact, he's prolly in the same dungeoneering CC that I was in for some time (poemm). Its pretty good at matching players for dungeoneering, especially to lvl 3's.
  25. I thought rushing was pretty self explanatory. As I understand it, you rush through the dungeon, skip monsters you don't want to kill, skip dead ends, and ignore all rooms after you find the boss. Really, that style of play has nothing to do with the setup at the beginning (size of dungeon, number in party, number to design dungeon to).
