  1. Now reading the third book in the Malazan Book of the Fallen series, Memories of Ice. I love this series, and I can't stress enough how good it is. I typically hate fantasy, but this series is so fast paced and descriptive without being Tolkien-esque descriptive. The overabundance of characters and complicated plot can get annoying, I hate having to look through the books glossary all the time to see who someone is or what something is. But it's overall a great series so far. I tried to read Red Pyramid but got really bored. I don't know why, I made it through the Percy Jackson books. Something just didn't click with me though. Oh well. Finally got around to writing my sci-fi/cyberpunk/cop book The Neon Sea. I'm so happy to start on it, it's been quite a few months in the thinking process.
  2. Is it necessary to use profanity? And to insult people? Because trust me, I'm a nerd but I've beaten people up. Twelve year old's pose no threat to me. Just because you are a nerd doesn't imply you don't know how to fight or anything...Most of my nerd friends are in some sort of martial art for the sheer fact they are nerds who like Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee movies and wish to be like them. It's a misconception that all nerds are fat, sweaty people.... And as a nerd, I can safely say my intellect is superior to a twelve year olds. Mostly because I sit around reading nonfiction and doing well in school, which is why people call me a nerd. Do I feel threatened by twelve year olds? Not really. Each generation seems to be getting shorter and stupider. Either that or I'm getting taller and smarter.
  3. Disagree. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3aNq4h0grs Agreed!
  4. Youtube HD Video - This video will cause high CPU usage, to view the video in a lower quality, please click here. Thoughts? I personally thought it looked good, but was otherwise quite generic. The city was boring, Dante as a black haired guy just doesn't do it for me. I was actually quite disappointed. While I am not opposed at all to trying it, it just is not appealing from what the trailer shows.
  5. My brother has The Red Pyramid and has read like, ten pages in two days. I FRIGGIN' WANT TO READ IT! Until then, I am reading Covenant Of Genesis by Andy McDermott, the fourth and final book in the series released until end of this month when I turn in more money for average thrillers that only excite me because they are 500 pages of straight over-the-top violence. And when in Geometry class and bored to death, you do enjoy reading page after page of shooting and explosions.
  6. Is this the Golden Compass/Subtle Knife series? I read these when I was younger too, but I don't remember anything religious. These are excellent reads, and I would reccommend them to anyone who hasn't read them. I remember finishing the third (final?) book and just sitting there thinking, "When was the last time I actually felt emotional about a book?". They were very powerful. They are extremely religious. But as previously stated, you probably wouldn't pick up on all those religious themes until you're older. But they are incredible books - probably my all time favourites :) And yeah, I definitely got emotional during the third one! The third book basically turned out to be the Scientologists fighting the Christians.
  7. [hide=Books On My List] - The Tomb Of Hercules -The Secret Of Excaliber -The Covenant Of Genesis -The Pyramid Of Doom -It -Koko -The Sword Of Shanarra -Otherland -Memories Of Ice -Chain Of Dogs -Midnight Tides -The Bonehunters -Vampire Hunter D 14 -Wicked City Black Guard -Wicked City The Other Side -The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo -Neuromancer -Night Fall -Wild Fire -The Lions Game -Golden Lion -Red Pyramid Plus the new Bartimaeus book coming in November and the new Dresden Files book in October. And all the crap I have to read in school. Typically I don't have anything to read. Now I have too much... [/hide]
  8. Ancient Egypt raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwr! /rage mode [hide=Mebeh Spoilers? idk]While Percy tended to focus on the relationship between Percy and Annabeth, Red Pyramid focuses on the relationship between two siblings, the book's main characters. So while the book reads and feels a lot like Percy did, it was really nice to get into the heads of the brother and sister. :) It seemed a lot more powerful than the teen-angst romance between Percy and Annabeth.[/hide] I love ancient Egypt. I just want to know if Red Pyramid is worth a read.
  9. I read Percy Jackson and was actually surprised to find that they were enjoyable. As a person who has never been excited by anything the kids are reading, these actually surprised me. I never read the last one though, and I read the fourth book when it first came out, what, two or three years ago? So I don't remember a lot about them, but I do remember that they were very enjoyable. His new books about Egypt look to be fun too. My brother and myself are the same basically. We didn't read much as kids because we found kids books to suck. I believe I only read the Deltora Quest books, and the Star War books starring Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan as a kid. And beyond those two I never read much. It was once I started reading adult books that I found myself reading a lot more. Now my brother is not the fastest reader and takes five minutes to read a page, but he hates reading in general. He got a Harry Turtledove book, Guns of the South I believe, and now he is reading pretty diligently. I think that's why so few kids read as much anymore, there are not a lot of appealing childrens books in my opinion. You have Harry Potter and that kind of stuff, but I was not the only kid who didn't find those boring. What I'm trying to say I guess, is that when it comes to childrens books you can't find a lot of really engrossing stuff that makes you want to read more. Once I got into adult books, then I found that there was a lot more going on in literature. I learned that there were no censors on books. And I also learned that Star Wars books could get epicer. And to tell the truth, the four kids books I can suggest, and will always suggest are: -Alex Rider -Star Wars (Can't remember the name of the series, but Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon are in them) -Percy Jackson -Deltora Quest Some other kids books I liked were the Young Bond series, though I thought that they were pretty stupid story-wise and didn't follow Fleming at all. And the Bartimaeus trilogy I thought was very good. I mean, as a kid you have a lot of good options, but spreading them out over four or five years, it runs thin very quick. The whole list an eleven year old could probably read in a year. I wish Deltora had been more popular and Bartimaeus though. Those both deserved a lot more respect than they got. EDIT: How could I forget His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman? I mean, I would never tell a kid to read them because they got so religious and became more a book with themes only an adult could understand. Great books, but I never understood why they were not marketed as adult books. I know very few people growing up who even read one of the books because they were complicated.
  10. Moved on to The Tomb Of Hercules by Andy McDermott. Tried some Clive Cussler since I assumed he was in the same vein as McDemott, but I ultimately didn't like it at all. McDermott's books are fast paced and have a cinema quality, Cussler is kinda sloggy. Got three new books yesterday to add to my part of the bookshelf dedicated to books I need to read (now contains 17 books). -The Lions Game-Nelson DeMille -Night Fall- Nelson DeMille -Neuromancer-William Gibson

    The Poll

I walk home from school every weekday. And Mondays and Fridays are reserved for PT in my ROTC class. So I guess I exercise a little.

    School

Today in Mass Media he randomly turns on a music video, tells us to analyze it as deeply and thoroughly as we can. He turns on Jeremy by Pearl Jam, one of my favorite songs. And I instantly fall in love with the class more than before :D And then he turns around and tells me that I am sports editor on the paper which means free games!!! School this year is already kicking more ass than last year.
  13. I love Serj Tankian. His voice, his use of big words, his style. SOAD is alright, I like some of their songs, but I like his solo career more. Empty Walls is pretty epic too.

    School

Started school today. Can't wait to go through Mass Media class. We get to critically analyze movies, music videos. We get to make a radio drama. We get to make a music video and movie. It's gonna be fun :D Otherwise, the rest of school will suck.
  15. I lol'ed as well. Proving that we are just like the radical Muslims...whether we admit it or not.

    Today...

School starts tomorrow. Sophomore year, oh hurrah!
  17. I never said I was a Muslim or a "Christian-Muslim", simpleton, the only thing I said was your reasoning is flawed. Simpleton? Whats with your 1800 era insults? I'm saying your posting style over the months has changed from side to side. I can read quite well, but I'll admit, this high horse you're on, because you know, you're Tip.its ONLY Maronite Scholar is quite bizarre. Like your insight is the only valid one. Did you directly say that? No, but [bleep] I can't even tell if you're trolling or not, quit... Just quit it. Look I'm even lost for words. To sum up a one paragraph post: First you're for Muslims Then against Then you're for Christians Then against Then anyone who disagrees, is ignorant. Or just has a different intellectual point of view. I personally have thought he's trolling the whole time but haven't felt like getting in between you and him. And the fact that he continually insults people who oppose him is not helping him at all. Why don't we clean the slate and discuss this once again minus the little war going on? And this is nothing against you Saruman, I just think that this is becoming ridiculous and agree with your summing up of his actions.
  18. I never said I was a Muslim or a "Christian-Muslim", simpleton, the only thing I said was your reasoning is flawed. Hey, hey...we don't need to start calling people names. It's bad enough that this thread has become an argument running in circles between you and others. But do we really need to turn it into a flame war? If you want to sound convincing and want your point to be looked at from people with opposing views, the last thing you want to do is start calling names. The moment an argument turns to calling names it becomes nothing less than a pointless flame war. So, can we continue an intelligent decision and not start a flame war? And even then, who calls each other simpletons anymore, seriously?
  19. I liked that book. It started really slow but I thought the plot twists toward the end were great. I couldn't get into the rest of the series though.
  20. Serj Tankian (System of a Down) sums this whole discussion up pretty well: Source
  21. I love how people who oppose the rally are saying that the whole thing is a bunch of white people who don't like having a black president. If said black president were not inept and more a figurehead than an actual president, than maybe we wouldn't be complaining.
  22. I liked Digimon...but I did think Pokemon was better. Mummies Alive. What a show full of fail. I tired to watch it a couple months ago and it was awful. But that was one of my childhood favorites. The Mummy: The Animated Series. It's so stupid and doesn't actually follow the plot of the movies, but it is still kind of enjoyable. Is Jackie Chan Adventures old-school? I mean, they don't play it anymore and if I had to pick the greatest cartoon of the past twenty-five years, it would be that. I can still watch and laugh and enjoy it.
  23. That's very stupid. That's what I love about the internet, anyone can be an idiot.
  24. I might have to watch it. My friend was telling me if I was gonna pay to see anything on TV I should watch Dexter. And I did. It's alright. I don't get all the hype though. It's look is so cheesy...I don't know what it is, I guess it's akin to watching a crappy soap opera. Just the visual look. The rest of the show is pretty good. He told me it shows naked people. The adult in me told me that's not the only reason to watch a show. But the twelve year old told me nudity is good. So I'll get to watching it.
