Still we talked about it at college and even if you're with a different carrier the connection goes through Bell, even Rogers goes through Bell for internet in Canada, although they have their own cable and fiber lines (yes they do have home fiber plans here). I didn't inform myself on this, but if it's anything like Aliant here (even when it was called NBTel), I think MTS and SaskTel might be owned by Bell too. Anything Sympatico is owned by Bell. I looked it up, Manitoba, Sask. and Alberta purchased Bell's infrastructure back in the early 1900s. Alberta and Manitoba privatized their telecom services in the 90s, and they became Telus and MTS respectively, while SaskTel is still a crown corporation. Fibre is pretty much nonexistent here, a few new areas have it, but the fastest internet you can get in most places is 100Mbps from Shaw, and it's something like $200 a month for uncapped data.

I believe Bell only owns the lines in Eastern Canada, here in Manitoba they're owned by MTS, and in Sask. they're owned by Sasktel.

  6. Not exactly on topic, but I hopped on MW2 last night and got a chopper gunner and went 17-0 on ffa, first game back. Still lost because I joined in progress though. Not sure if I just got lucky or if everyone in the game was awful.
  7. I hate getting sweaty from working out. I'd exercise far more often if it didn't happen.
  8. The remake of firing range is really good, probably the best looking CoD map they've ever made. The skyscraper and magma maps are good, but I'm not a big fan of the stage map. Zombies is confusing, haven't played enough to have an opinion on it though.

I know some on the pro gun side are afraid to allow any sort of gun control legislation to pass, even if they agree with it, because they feel that the anti gun side won't stop there and will keep pushing for even more controlling laws. I wonder if Obama could get a few more Senators on board for UBCs if he offered them something in return, like loosening silencer regulation.
  11. You have every right to be offended, but not to impose your moral code on the users of this forum. If swear words are that offensive to you, consider some kind of censoring browser extension.
  12. And 21 hours later, it's over. I'm glad they got him alive.
  13. I've been doing really well with the M27 lately, I think it's displaced the AN-94 as my best assault rifle. Got my first gold gun (R870), and have been getting better at sniping too. I'm tempted to go for diamond shotguns, but the S12 and M1216 are a pain in the ass to get one hit kills with. Anyone played the new zombies? I really don't want to buy another map pack, but I've heard it's quite fun.
  14. I've always thought it was strange this forum had a censor. I guess it made sense back when our userbase was mostly made up of young kids who played Runescape, but even the maturity of the 'Scape boards is far higher than it used to be.

While it might make selling a bit more inconvenient, there is nothing stopping a felon or a mentally unstable person from responding to your ad and acquiring a firearm they should not be able to have. It may still have holes, but it allows legal action to be taken against those who illegally resell firearms to criminals.

I'm surprised background checks failed, it seemed like a fair compromise that might actually do something, and with the clause that allowed you to sell to family and friends, it didn't really infringe on any rights.
  17. I agree, especially when they join the forum just to spam their channel.

It was someone in the Vatican using the internet, could be anyone who was in the country and connected to the internet though. Would be hilarious if it did turn out to be a member of the church though.

It is also somewhat legal to defend your property with lethal force in Canada, if you feel your life or the life of another occupant is in danger. A man recently won a court case here where he used a legally owned gun to chase away armed attackers. The main case against him was that he had his weapon loaded and unlocked, but he was able to prove that he unlocked the gun and loaded it after noticing the intruders. As for gun control itself, I feel it is unnecessary, ineffective, and intrudes on the basic freedoms of the public. Things like the AWB are the worst offenders in my eyes, the fact that two mini-14s that are identical in all ways but cosmetically can have a different legal status is ridiculous. Same with magazine cap bans, 30 is the standard for a lot of rifles, and anything over 30 is probably what you want a mass shooter to use because of how unreliable they are. In Canada it is illegal to own a centrefire rifle magazine with a capacity of more than 5 rounds. However this law is incredibly ineffective because you can purchase a 30 round mag pinned at 5 rounds, legally own it, then unpin it to commit a crime. You can also purchase .50 beowulf magazines and legally fill them with 15 rounds of .223. Universal background checks seem like a logical solution in the US, although the fact that they will make private sales expensive and more difficult is an issue. I am also a fan of Canada's permit system, which stops idiots from impulse buying guns with no knowledge of how to use them. Stay away from a registry though, it proved to be an ineffective mess up here, and repealing it is one of the few things I agree with that Harper has done. The easiest way to stop gun violence in the US would be to end the war on drugs. Take away the main source of income for gangs, use the money saved to focus on jobs and education, and you will see gun violence drop dramatically.

I finally got my drivers licence yesterday. Decided to celebrate by going for a cruise, and witnessed my first accident as a driver. Some lady didn't clear the intersection fast enough, and a guy clipped the corner of her car. She was lucky though, if she was half a second slower she would have been full on t-boned. Nobody was hurt, but I had to pull an illegal u-turn to not run over broken glass. I think I might buy a dash cam in the future.
  21. I don't agree with the notion that games are reaching the limit of their potential. One of the major thing holding back PC gaming has been this ancient generation of consoles, which is the reason it seems like things are stagnating. But once the next gen comes out, I think we'll start to see a lot of improvement in PC gaming, especially in areas like game physics.

We got snow last night too. At this rate there'll still be snow on the ground in May.
