$250 is netbook range, you're looking at at least $350 for a full notebook. I'd tell him to save for a bit, or maybe look for something used. I've used a netbook for RS, and it can run safe mode, but not with much else going on in the background.

My Persia game, around 1926. You can't see, but I'm currently winning a war against the UK, with most of North India occupied. They intervened in my annexation of Oman, and I beat them off with no help from my 'ally' France, who occupied the channel islands then white peaced out. The UK still won't accept peace though, even though I have about +5 warscore on them. I'm 6th in the world right now, far behind Prussia and comfortably ahead of the Bavarian Republic. If I can end the war against the UK I'm going to go for one last war against the Ottomans, who are allied with France, the UK and Russia. I have about 75 brigades, with 150 more avaliable, so stomping the Ottomans shouldn't be a problem, but beating back France in Africa might. My goal at the start was all of the Arabian Peninsula, all of Egypt, all of Ottoman Africa and Iraq/Syria, and as far east as Afghanistan. Some interesting things to note are the random states Austria grabbed, the Morocco situation, and Russian Japan. China also managed to westernize and unify, under my sphere.

Same, I'll never pay for a digital download. Why would I pay for a low quality MP3 that takes forever to download and is full of DRM when I can download a better quality one for free. I also like listening to full albums, not just singles and I fear that if the music industry moves to downloads only, artists will just start releasing individual songs instead of albums.

No clue where you're getting 3.5ghz from. I've played Runescape fullscreen with all settings including AA maxed on a computer with a core i3 and a 5670. Just make sure you are using directx and that hardware acceleration is on.

How do you figure they're so unnecessary? The logic behind having such strict rules is stupid. If I have something that's 11 cm long and I add something that's 11.5 cm to it, I have to round and say it's now 23 cm long.

I don't think that there's anything wrong with the CB system, it just feels unnecessary. It is nice to get those free wars though. One thing I found interesting is that you can see other nations generating CBs on the diplomatic screen. I'm not sure if its every one or just ones that get discovered though. If you try the westernization, be careful with the factory reforms. You have to pay for them still, and it can completely wreck your economy. The best thing about it is other AI nations actually try to westernize. I'm interested to see if this changes the end game at all. My free days all depend on when I get scheduled at work, but a game does sound fun. Next Monday might be a possibility though.

It depends on who you play as. If you break the 25 Infamy mark, they normally declare wars of containment. I haven't played as any European minors in a while, but I never really see them get involved with Italy unless it involves a war with France. They do like do declare wars over colonial borders though, so if you have any of those that may explain it. @Archi - I bought the expansion release day, and so far I really like it. I've only played one game up to 1880 with Persia, about to westernize, so I can't say much for some of the features, but I like the new westernization process (No more general spam), and so far the China fix seems to be working, as in the UK hasn't eaten half of it yet. I'm not sure how I feel about the new CB system though, it seems rather useless. I think I might try a Civil War game as the Confederates next to see how that plays out.

I used to hate sniping because the default snipers are awful, but I picked up a sniper kit with one of the bolt action snipers (L86?) and I did amazing with it. Now I just have to unlock the UMP so I can level my recon class.

Geo Defence and Geo Defence Swarm are awesome if you like TD games, and are insanely challenging.

Is there something specific I should be looking for? All the ones I've played on switch between all maps. Are you using the server browser, or using quick match? Server browser. I can always find a b2k map, but the one after is just a random map.
