Help on what laptop to get...
Well, that doesn't tell us anything. For that, I could just suggest a $200 netbook for an extended battery life. What operating system do you prefer, if any? Do you have a budget? Do you play any games? Are ports important (FireWire, USB, etc)? There's so many variables, then adding along a year of technological advancements. SSDs might become a more viable option for consumers, LED/OLED displays may rise, the list goes on. OS: I've used Windows all my life, but I'm willing to try Apple if it allows me to start-up/shut-down/run smoother over time. I just need the basic Word processing as well as something to browse the internet with. Perhaps throw in a good graphics card just in case I get really bored and do wanna install a game or two. Budget: Under $950 is good. No need for an expensive computer for college. Games: If it hinders my ability to do well in college, then none (and disregard what I said above; I know this aspect varies student to student, but I think I'll have trouble focusing if I addictively play any type of game). Ports: Never used FireWire before; USBs just include printer, flashdrive, and perhaps my iPod's USB cable. Preferably something that's quiet, won't be any slower 4 years from purchase than 4 months from purchase (what are the chances? I also don't download a bunch of stuff), and doesn't require a lot of maintenance. If anything, I avoid computers from retail stores (i.e. computer companies like Compaq, HP, eMachines, and the likes) because those just deteriorate right out of the box. OS: As far as operating systems go, they all begin to slow down as the disk enlarges. If you wanted to try OS X, the cheapest laptop you could purchase that isn't from the refurb store is the polycarbonate MacBook for $950 after an education discount. During the back-to-school program (which is going on now) you can get a free iPod Touch after rebate, which has a $220 price tag. In addition, you can get a free $100 printer after rebate (this goes on all year, and you can get it with the iPod Touch). However, if you aren't planning to keep these items, their value decreases because they are essentially free with every Mac purchase. Games: A Macintosh with, even with an IGPU, will play the games it sounds like you may want to play. Ports: The polycarbonate MacBook has two USB ports and one FireWire 400 port. It also has a MagSafe connection, ethernet, mini DVI, and a headphone port. The trackpad is capable of two finger scrolling. It shouldn't slow down over time, as any laptop shouldn't less the parts become damaged. The problem lies that new software is always being released. I haven't had an issue with Apple's customer support, but I'm only one person. I didn't really assess any options for the PC side, as the laptops stated here should be more than capable of running the software you require.

No, it's not. I never stated that humans can't be considered superior. Should they deserve the same punishment? No, of course not. But they're both crimes. Are they that different? I'm not implying that there is a right answer, it's only to get you to think about how different or similar we are. I may have forgotten, but I believe that chickens share 95% of their DNA with humans.

Not sure if this is directed at me or not. If it is, yes, I can run. But you are quite clearly superior in this field. Our running abilities are not the same, even though we both have the ability to run. The abilities both exist, but they are on different levels. So are you really that different?

Reveal Confessions, Secrets & Regrets...
Gratz  I now regret doing that for you. RSN2: Zezima :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: Yes, my pure is actually Zezima, what, no one knew that? I noticed you have the wrong location, should be "In my mum's basement, pretending to be like RayOxide" ;) Wait, who? And there are no basements in San Antonio, soon as you dig 5 inches down you hit rock. Eh, I had a bomb shelter on base in SA.

Is God real post your thoughts!
Nice on-topic post. Would read it again. Nice rip-off of a siggied quote. Would read it again  Edit: Just had another thought. Maybe there is an afterlife and maybe there isn't, but if there is, does it have anything to do with God? You cannot know that which you do not know the absence of.

I can run a a five minute mile while you're trailing behind me by at least two minutes. You can run, can't you?

I appreciate the motion they are trying to create and the purpose, yes. About the Myspace angels, the people creating these photos just have lack of self-esteem and feel inferior because society has deemed what the word "pretty" refers to. Under the correct lighting, anyone can look as society deems fit. Myspace angles themselves are not the ones who we should feel disgusted at. No, it's society's definition that all women must be slender and have a large chest that's disgusting.

Help on what laptop to get...
However, you could either get 2 or 3 but with 8GB of RAM. May I question why you are recommending he buy 8GB or RAM? Because the first laptop isn't a major improvement over 2 and 3, and there are other things to upgrade than RAM, I gave that as an example. I doubt he'll ever go above 2GB-4GB while using this system. Probably wont :P so get #3? It looks like an excellent buy.

I don't use Avira because I don't run Windows and I was stating neutrality anyways. FIle size and footprint is very important to the end user, the comparison I used earlier was that a track athlete usually must run in order to participate.

Virus protection
File size, of the program, not the virus. By unbiased source, it's implied that I meant from a source other than an antivirus company or someone who isn't keen on selling a specific product. My point being, how can you assess the detection rate through one detection, or in this case, false positive?

Our ability to communicate on a level far superior to that of any other animal. Our ability to create what we imagine. This is what makes us such great civilization-builders. Our ability to use logic and reasoning to solve problems. May I inquire how you know that we can communicate at a superior level to that of animals? Our ability to create what we imagine, hmm. Does that really set us apart? Animals can create what they can imagine given the tools the need. Sure they're not going to manipulate things to a degree that we can, but that's not a difference, only a variance in skill. Other creatures use logic all the time. Sometimes they make mistakes because of their ignorance. Are you implying that we do not? In regards to my statement, I was not speaking in a literal sense. Of course we are "mapped" differently, if only by accident. But does that not give us a common ancestry: a series of accidents? You could point out many differences with simply five letters, A, U, T, C, and G.

I'd disagree, A-Squared has a higher detection rate. Avira can't detect crap. http://img37.imageshack.us/img37/5268/tmpf.jpg' alt='tmpf.jpg'> Could you please provide evidence from an unbiased source? Not that I don't believe you, but you're simply showing one example which sbrideau2000 was easily able to negate. By providing an analysis of a variety of detrimental codes, you can further examine which antivirus softeware has a higher detection rate. But you also have to factor in the size of the program and the resources it requires; a track athlete isn't much good if he cannot run. Please also note that there is a difference between trojans and viruses.

What Do I Do?
You have nothing to prove to them. I agree about facing your fears, but being uncomfortable all day does not make for a fun event. I would choose not to go, left to the comforts of my home.

Why should they need to excuse themselves when it should be you excusing yourself to them?

New Hampshire Legalises Gay Marriage
I fail to see how ratifying a line in the Pledge of Allegiance is disregarding any religion. I have never, after developing my own ideals, recited the pledge. I simply stand up, showing my allegiance to my country. I should not have to stand under a god I do not take faith in to show my sense of nationalism.

Now I haven't read up on this in more than a while, but if I remember correctly; The US was founded on no state funded church, because they didn't want the government to fund a church like UK funded the Church of England. Along down the road, after then US was founded, someone decided the throw in separation of church and state. So technically , under the constitution wouldn't one be able to base their political decisions off their preferable religion, weather it be Christianity or Buddhism as long as their decision was not to give money or government hand-outs to the religion? I'm down with people being homosexual and what not, but I think there are certain rights (like tax benefits and the shift of veteran's pay to the spouse) that a married man and woman have that should be for a married man and woman, not 2 married men or 2 married women. Isn't that like saying, "Oh, we'll make black men and women free, but they shouldn't be allowed to vote," or "We will make them free, we'll just tax them 33% more." I'm sure many people here believe that all races and religions should be treated equally, why is this any different? If history has taught you anything, shouldn't it be that prejudice comes in many forms? Yet time and time again, we uphold our previous morals (such as racial equality) but turn around and discriminate when it's in our backyard (in this case, gay marriage). My point being, what makes this any different from racial separation? They have different premises with the same outcome: oppression. Before you ask, I don't question your faith in God (despite being an ignostic) but I do question your logic behind such reasoning. :| Are you serious? I quite agree with the person who you are quoting. May I ask you, Robert, what does set us apart? An interesting choice of phrasing as the word "fixing" implies that there was something wrong to begin with. Not that I'm saying nothing is or isn't wrong, but rather not in the direction you're going in. America is far from godless, it influences everything from politics to education and if takes a myriad of forms, some more subtle than others. If you are right, then I shall go to hell for standing up for what I believe in. Am I safe to assume that you agree with this concept, as many are?

Getting a Laptop [UPDATE]
It's really up to you. They're both comparable and will run RSHD with no problem. The Asus packs in more portability with an equal resolution meaning that screen size is near irrelevant.

Getting a Laptop [UPDATE]
No, it's considered average by consumers and is of low grade because the panels are easy and cheap to make thus raising the profit margin; companies prey on the ignorance of consumers. While you can get 1080p on 17" laptops, this one is not of high definition in any sense.

I've never understood people who still like XP. Because they're more comfortable with it? Not to be rude, but what's not to get?

FIXED-Primary monitor,no help needed anymore.
What operating system? On a Mac, you simply close the screen and attach a mouse and keyboard. Or you can go into System Preferences>Display and toggle where the dock is located, it will then become your primary monitor.

Getting a Laptop [UPDATE]
It's 1440x900, not enough? Or what do you mean? My resolution on my screen is that, and it does fine. It's a cheap panel. My 13" laptop nearly approaches the same resolution versus a screen 4" larger. Since laptops tend to be closer to you, the higher resolution comes in handy. Color accuracy and contrast also need to be taken into account. This is coming from someone about to throw out a 1080p 21.5" (crappy TN panel, even at $180) monitor in favor of a S-IPS or H-IPS panel for better viewing angles, contrast, brightness, and color accuracy. Unfortunately these are somewhat hard to come by at a decent price, especially those with LED backlighting so at best I'll be spending $750 for a monitor at the same resolution and size as the one I currently have. I've looked at VA panels, but the refresh rate vs. color accuracy is too much; I'd rather take the refresh rate and save some cash. I doubt it'll drop on Father's Day, as it isn't a holiday taken advantage by major electronics stores. I'll compile a list of different laptops from Best Buy nearing your budget. This Toshiba is $50 more than the one you prospected with a better GPU, a better CPU, it's more portable and weighs less. This Asus has a better resolution for its screen size, it's got a better CPU with a comparable GPU, it's lighter and more portable as well as cheaper. It has less HDD space.
