Getting a Laptop [UPDATE]
That laptop will run RSHD fine but you may not be content with the resolution. But then again, I am a videophile.

Getting a Laptop [UPDATE]
Newer GPUs or even IGPUs (which represent discrete and integrated graphics devices respectfully) from Nvidia or ATI.

Wireless problems on laptop
You can enter the html address to enter your router's firmware, or you can post the make and model of the router and I'll/we'll look it up. If you haven't bought a router in the past year, it's safe to say that it only works on the 2.4Ghz frequency. It might be capable of running N, but only at 2.4Ghz. What you want/need is N at 5Ghz which is only available through certain routers. But then you run into issues with compatibility. For example, an iPhone won't work on 5Ghz nor a computer without a proper receiver. This is where dual-band comes in, because it can send out both frequencies - 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. They don't come cheap though, the only two I am aware of are from Apple and Linksys which are both USD $180.

No either way. Typically Intel IGPUs are soldered onto the motherboard or logicboard. The only way to remove it would be to unsolder it, but they you still wouldn't be able to add a different chipset or GPU.

Wireless problems on laptop
I'm assuming your security system operates on a 2.4Ghz network which is the same network your WiFi works on, alongside microwaves and cordless phones. The easiest fix, and perhaps the only viable one, would be to update all of your computers to Wireless N and buy a dual band router. That or go back to Wireless A, which would compromise your online speed.

Computer Fan Runs constantly when on RS
Buying a new GPU may offload some of the resources, depending on what you have now. Buying a better fan, more fans, liquid cooling, reapplying thermal paste, or undervolting/clocking the CPU are a few options. Not that I suggest the last. Also, are you F2P or P2P? On F2P, the adverts are flash which is a CPU intensive program, especially on OS X.

bought a notebook but...
I guess, but it's what you're basing your entire work on. You're opening yourself up to whatever the "first-man" wants to put in the code. But I won't turn this thread into a pirate debate, "argh-"pirates or what-have-you.

bought a notebook but...
Out of all the things to pirate, I've never understood pirating an operating system. Not that I endorse or take part in pirating of any sort.

Laptops?
Ok, that was my original question, so he'd just have to buy an adapter. Ok then, let me rephrase. He's not going to notice much if any difference on the MacBook or MacBook Pro. At best, it's marginally brighter than my old CCFL, without tweaking and marginally darker.

When it says 'insert system disk in drive' it means that you need to insert a disk that has an installable operating system, therefore, a recovery disk will do nothing. You could probably get away with Ubuntu if I'm honest. That's usually what people call a recovery disk. :P

What's your Favorite computer?
I've actually had it do that before. It doesn't happen very often (it pretty much requires that I max out my cpu on something with high definition for at least an hour (if I want to ply RSHD for any length of time, I generally have to take a side panel off so it doesn't overheat)), but it has happened. What processor do you have?

Laptops?
But that's not going from HDMI to DVI, which limits the porting options. Eh, I notice little difference between my two laptops, CCFL and LED. Perhaps they can go brighter but the manufacturers still limit it via firmware.

Wireless Internet for Dummies? (Updated)
I highly doubt he'll see a benefit to using N over G. A/N have a longer ranger while B/G/N have a faster speed. As you see, N is in both categories. However, your internet needs to be over 54MB/s, which is doubtful for most, and then you have to buy a router with the correct chip to process all of that information at once. Most routers, even those claiming to be N, still have a limited chip that doesn't allow the speed you want.

It's not likely to overheat at 75F. :P

The Jackdaw,your experience.
just picked it up. You picked up this bird? You are aware that most species of birds fly away when in the presence of an animal larger than itself, correct?

I'm sorry, people can not be this stupid...
Eh, not the worst of stupidity. I've seen people in high school, their senior year, who honestly believed that plants had brains. Chain mail is annoying and an easy way for companies to steal your e-mail address. I don't know, that was pretty scary when I heard it the first time. The first time. Real good adding to the disscusion mr. admin It's not Das that's all uptight about whether or not posts are contributive or not. Which, I find a good thing in most cases.

My Internet hates me.
If IE isn't working because of this hardware, I doubt he will want Firefox, as bloated as it is. Chrome, I thought, only supported XP/Vista, Linux, and OS X 10.5/10.6.

Laptops?
Right, but is there a male HDMI to female DVI adapter? So that way you could output using HDMI>DVI? They're both digital, but DVI doesn't carry sound. Eh, you're right about the LED, but there's nothing really noticeable about the display itself. Then it's probably not worth considering. DVI is standard and is present on nearly all monitors alongside a more outdated port, VGA. VGA works by first outputting a digital signal which is then converted into an analog signal. The problem with this is that there's a loss of quality on larger displays with higher resolutions. DVI and HDMI are all digital, so no conversions are necessary; it's near the same quality. What this means for you is that with only VGA and HDMI options, you're limited to the monitors with decent qualities you can choose. Currently, there aren't all too many displays on the market that have an HDMI input (and a lot of them use TN panels) versus displays with DVI. VGA is present on many of them, more so than DVI I would think, but a loss of quality is present on larger screens. Where as with DVI, you would have a much broadened range of choices. Digital (DVI) can also be converted into analog (VGA) but not vise versa.

Laptops?
It depends on what you find important. The one you posted has a horrible resolution in comparison and a heavier weight. The MacBook has an LED display (not that he'd notice), DVI port (can you go from HDMI to DVI?) and multitouch sans four finger swipes. The one you posted has better GPU, more HDD space (I'm assuming it's two drive, then? Notebook HDDs only go up to 500GB.), HDMI, faster processor, and faster clocked RAM.

What's your Favorite computer?
So far my aluminium MacBook, but it may be too early to tell, as I got it ~3 months ago. I hated my old HP laptop and I regret buying it because of weight, heat dissipation, poor battery life (and a poorly made battery on top of that; it didn't last long (as in, over a period of time, not time per each charge) and it was recalled), and driver issues.

iMac questions
On Vista too. And it's probably safer. But the media has blown it out of proportion and the many users find it annoying.

iMac questions
As I understand, but there's a difference between corporate and consumer. As ClamAV's site shows, none of the top 10 items are viruses, as I pointed out to sbrideau2000; there's a difference between all of these things and replicating viruses that appear on your computer without explicit access as defined by the user.

Laptop Screen
Aw, what a bummer, I might just put it back together and put Ubuntu on it. Thanks, guys!

iMac questions
That is a false rumor you're trying to spread. There are Viruses for Macs, but they are much less present for the fact that most people are on Windows. Most of the Viruses do like most of the Windows Viruses I encounter do: Make their way through using user errors. At least it's like that starting with Vista and also in Windows 7 (UAC anyone?). No. All actions on a Macintosh that affect the system require user name and password. I'm not saying there isn't spyware, malware, worms, or trojans, nor that they are impregnable and haven't had any in the past, but there are no programs that run without the user knowing so. The Unix operating system is built upon layers that, even after having permission, do not entire the root system. For this reason, it will never be as effective as it would have been on an operating system such as Windows. And there mere fact that Widows holds 90% of the market isn't reason to say that there so "few" of them. Apple is marketing these machines as "virus-free" to the average consumer. I'm sure the creators of these malicious codes would love to take that away, less make a name for themselves.
