Maturity and Immaturity
Why do you do that? I've always wondered. Guys go to the bathroom, do their stuff and then leave. No talking in there, especially no talking. It leads to bad things.

Funny pictures thread
Sorry, the admins and mods have agreed that Off-Topic can't handle a funny pictures type thread, every other instance has just fallen into spamming and flaming. Locked, Pryomancer.

New Computer - Questions
If you're spending £1000+ on a pc, then you can probably afford a top end graphics card like the nvidia GTX 280. I've heard that DDR3 ram isn't worth the increase for what you pay for it. To future proof make sure you get an 800w+ psu, maybe 1000w if it's within budget.

TIFers Say the Darndest Things!
I'm 90% sure he got banned. His posts were hilarious, but mostly spam. Anyone remember his topic "How to get into Dairy Queen when you die"?  No, he's not banned. I checked his profile. Hasn't logged in since 12/07. Hm, you're right. Could have sworn he got banned. :-k Remember, everyone got unbanned during the rollback.Bubs included. Only people that got banned between the date the forum was last backed up and when it happened. Not everyone who was ever banned.

[answered] Can I trust download.com?
I'd never pay for PS Elements, I hate it. I agree that the UI between GIMP and Photoshop are similar because they do the same job, but a company will always pick someone with, for example, two years of Photoshop experience over someone with 5 years of GIMP.

Anyone can give constructive criticism. If you're not going to listen to it and learn from it, there's no point giving it. Nadril is right, you do clearly need to learn the basics of good design. Slapping some brushes on and adding a ripple filter doesn't look good. Look at it anyway, on the smudged one, the lines are jagged from all the distortion. Your text in the banner is also bad. It's just been placed, there is no shading, interaction with the background, kerning, aligning, positioning etc.

I've removed the 'anti-nadril zone' part from the op title, that's unacceptable, don't target other users. Listen to Nadril, he knows what he's talking about. You'd be wise to take his advice.

[answered] Can I trust download.com?
Not to keep your already-answered thread alive but.. Why is GIMP better than Photoshop? Is it just more user-friendly? It's because professional design companys use Photoshop, it's the industry standard. A company wouldn't employ someone who can't use their most vital software, they would employ someone who has experience with Photoshop, not GIMP or Paint.net etc. I personally think the UI on Photoshop is 1000% better than GIMP.

Danger Will Robinson! (The do's and dont's in computing)
I've heard a useful tip that if you do bend the pins on a cpu, you can use a pen to correct them. Use those clicky pens that have the retractable nib, then stick it over the pin and wiggle it the right way so it bends the pin back in place. Not sure if it's a totally reliable/wise thing, but it sounds plausible.

If you don't intend to go into graphic design as a career choice, then GIMP and other open source programs are a good alternative choice.

Graphics and driver trouble
[hide=][/hide] The black one is the PCI-E slot, the white ones are PCI. Note the position of the divisions in the slots. If it is the wrong type then your mother board will probably beep to warn you, although there might be another reason. Also, did you uninstall your previous graphics drivers before you inserted the graphics card? What model is your graphics card? What motherboard do you have?

Using the blend modes or whatever GIMP calls them (blend modes on Photoshop) is fine if it gets the desired effect. Making an image is all about making your life easier, in a word, being non-destructive. If you are a graphic designer and you show your client their finished item, and they want, for example, the person on the right to be smaller and have more of their body shown. If you've deleted everything that isn't showing, you've got to cut out that whole stock again, it was a better idea to keep the whole render and use a layer mask to hide stuff, rather than using the eraser tool. This is non-destructive editing, as it keeps the original image intact for easy editing later should it be required. Destructive editing is stuff like adding filters, blurring and erasing bits. These things are very difficult to correct once they've been done and you've lost the history state. Personally, whenever I'm editing an image or section of an image, I always make a duplicate of the layer, so if I screw up I've still got the original to go back to with just one click. Also, I see you inverted the guitar, you should never do that. Inverting is very rarely a good idea.

How would
You treat it the same as a render...
