Mostly I'm trying to convince people that I'm not some raving looney as you're trying to make me appear to me. Selfishness? You're damn right. I'm an objectivist so I believe in true and rational selfishness. I'm interested in getting the most out of the game as I can. The people who want these clan updates are just as selfish as they want updates to maximise their playing experience. Another point I want made is that moving more towards a bigger amount of group/clan activites is a mistake. That turns Runescape into what most other MMOs are and I think that other MMOs do it better. I think that *that* would be detrimental to Runescape in the long run. Obviously you disagree so feel free to not reply to my post.

Most of the flack comes because I actually have an opinion and don'y shy away from people criticizing it. Most of them either insult me or circumvent my points. In instances like this, I'mn ot trying to convince people like Tortilla or Rav, but the other people who are reading it.
-
Basically, we're asking when those updates will come Justin because the updates we've gotten have been crap.
-
If the case is they bring the game around to more group based activity than solo play, I very well could leave. And I'd love it if you could link me where they said that 50% thing. I want to read it myself. Back to my main point, I'm tired of hearing about them. Give them updates if they want so abdly, but just shut up about it. It's not bad enough that half the Dev blogs are abotu clans, but we need to have a bunch of Times articles about them too?
-
Paranoia is if someone is "out to get you" how does that have anything to do with anything on this topic? because jagex have said that 50% of the game is supposed to be composed of multiplayer activities. because jagex have said they're striving towards that goal. Because jagex have said that they are focusing more on clan activities (after the last clan tournament). because nothing has happened since then, and therefore clan changes and increased support should be around the corner. becasue it's like their stance on RTW: something they have asserted as fact. because you seem to disregard all those things when you campaign against clan updates. It's completely irrational, it's as if i were to campaign against color changes for the dark bow, when it was voted as guaranteed content: it makes no sense. Rav implied I was paranoid, that's why I said something. I personally never saw the 50% thing, but I personally won't spend 50% of my time on group activities. I don't agree with that goal, but again, it's just an opinion. It's not something I'll quit the game over. I am personally against it, again why is that an issue? Because it goes against what Jagex has said their goal is? Sorry, but I don't have to believe or hold the opinion of the game developers to enjoy their game in the same way I don't have to agree with Ben & Jerry's politics to like their ice cream.

You seem to think I care one way or another in some major way. I don't. I have a preference. That's all.

Wrong forum. This will be moved shortly to Help and Advice. Oh by the way, that little button all the way to the left in the middle of your keyboard is called the Caps Lock. Look into it. ;)

so you are say, if i wanted RWT back in runescape, i should complain every update they don't reinstitute opportunites for rwt? I think I would then need to confront myself with reality. do you? I'm very well aware of reality and not at all paranoid. I simply don't support spending time on updates for clans. Why do you have such an issue with that?
-
My opinions are two fold. 1) I dislike clans. I don't hate them though. 2) By focusing more time on clans they are moving into a realm where bigger games are also better at clan support. I think that's a mistake. I think the game is set up well the way it is. This opinion is mine and I don't particularly care what anyone else to say about it. Whether it be Ravian or Andrew Gower himself.
-
No, it doesn't, not when I have a difereing opinion. I have an opinion that differs from theirs. That's why it's called an opinon. It's yours and no one else's, regardless of anything else..
-
Personally, I'd like Clans to go about their business if they want and make due with what they have. I'm fine with ever other kind of update. Runescape is very unique in that it's one of the very few games that truly offers a game that focused on individual play and individual achievement. The more it changes to group activity, the more it turns itself to every other RPG out there. I think that's a bad thing. That's just my opinion and my final thought on the topic.
-
No, I never in anyway way said that clans would affect individualized gameplaying. I have simply stated that I don't like clans personally and don't particularly like having to hear about them. Also, if I had my way, and that's what this argument is all about, having our own ways, I'd rather Jagex not spend time doing them. Also, my assumption of you was based on everything I have so far read from you. Also, you may notice that I made no mention of you being or not being in a clan. I again simply stated that I believe you believe in the group over the individual. I may be wrong, but I don't think I am. As far as a high priority, I have my doubts. I think that Jagex pays a bunch of lip service to clans, gives them minor updates, and does what little they have to placate them. This opinion is based entirely of what they have done so far. And finally, no it's not up me to decide if they should or shouldn't., but it's not up to you either. Both of us are giving on our opinions on the hypothetical updates that have been suggested. How would those updates change things? No idea. I just don't think they're worth the time.
-
Also, I think in Jagex doing such things as this, they will step into a huge pit. By going more after the Clan market they will be entering a market that other, bigger games are in and do much better in the clan department. I think the whole thing will end up much the same way as the Mobilising Armies experiement. And, if I may, I wouldn't belong to any clan that would have me as a member. :P
-
Clearly Ravian is a member of the group think and belief of the group over the individual. Therefore he will not and can not be persuaded of our arguments for individualism. Also, I still think that Clans bringing "active players" who compete/team with their friends isn't that large of a majority. I think the way they get the attention from Jagex is the same manner where a small group makes a big noise against an enemy making them think there are many more than there actually are. Personally, I wish that Jagex would embrace the individualistic nature that their game has. Better to simply own it than paying lip service to clans.
-
I still think the perceived importance and participation in clans is out of whack with their actual importance and use. I think that people in Clans are an overly vocal minority. I have an idea, I'll use the same stupid argument always used at me when I criticize or say something should be changed. You want clan support? Go play WoW.
-
play an rpg then, not an mmorpg. Um,no? I like interacting with people. I don't mind competing with people. I like to achieve things with other people trying to do the same. I like that I'm not forced into group activities like you are in WoW. I'm just very, very over hearing about clans when I don't think that many people are even in them. The community opinion seems to be if you don't agree with the community opinion you need to quit our game. Clans actually play no part in runescape. RS Could easily survive without them. The only times you need to have participation with other people is when you're FORCED to. EG Heroes quest, Shield of Arrav etc. You HAVE to use people. But anyways, clans are not needed in RS. Sure things they can be helpful. Finding a PC clan, or the SC clan or whatever will help you alot doing some things, however it's not needed is it? Clans are therefore not an integral part of RS. Just like they're not in some other places like Halo 3 online. You don't need a clan, but my girlfriends brother and I are making one. Therefore they have no real purpose in a game. Updates should be made for all players not just for clans. Why not? I find that games that provide some form of team/club/guild/clan formation tend to keep their players longer. You have the sense of belonging to the group, the tendency to log in for some group event, or just to chat with fellow members, and provide/ask for advice/help. The article isn't suggesting teamwork gameplay, just more in-game clan support. An actual location in game to provide a clan base (much like your POH), and proper registration of a clan and its members, a page on the RuneScape to list down registered clans etc..... The supposed 'clan chat' seems more like a group chat function to me, not an actual clan system, even though there's ranking system. Ugh, "belonging to the group?" That thought alone makes me feel queasy.

I like how when I even give what I think other people are thinking I get criticised by people like Qeltar as if I'm stating that what they think is actually my opinion. Also, I agree. Bug fixes and patches should be done every week regardless of whether there is an update or not. -

Most high level content has had little impact, less the high level herblore update. The Runecrafting one had minor, and the fishing one as well had little. -

I always read the quest content. It's my favorite part. That's why I like quests to have a story, unlike Blood Pact or Nomad's Requiem. I don't really mind the lack of story for Blood Pact. And low levels are still overwhelmed by content aimed at them. High levels are not. -

Well, I was speaking sarcastically, but yeah, Blood Pact took me 5 minutes even reading diologue. -

No, we want a good update right off the bat. No more half done updates that get the second half done weeks later, like the Multiplem Runecrafting updates. Updates this year have been very shallow or half assed. Nomad's Requiem being both in my opinion.

Yes, but Swept Away gave us both a quest and the broom, though anybody playing the broom can get it anytime. I think we have enough pointless event items.

They could easily put two or three weeks without update after a new skill without much complaint, i think. I'd like to see that... New skill comes out... Next week: WAAAAAH NO UPDATES! JAMFLEX NEVER UPDATE RUNESCAPE ANYMORE!!! Bet you anything people will complain about a no update week after the skill :P It does sometimes feel like 2 weeks of nothing, though, when a small update is done. It's a bit annoying but not the end of the world. Don't worry about the complainers. Worry about the people that don't complain and simply leave the game. If you did a big update, then no update, it's not as bad. If you do a small update, then no update, people feel like nothing came out and look forward to something good coming out. When the next thing comes out and its not big, people feel like the No update week was pointless and get extremely aggravated. That'll be next week complaining because the next quest have level 12 requirements and take 4 1/2 minutes to do. -
God how tired I am of hearing about clans. My favorite part of Runescape is its primary focus on individual play and individual accomplishment.
