Today.... I passed my second year of my degree which will count for 30% of my degree classification. I got some very pleasant marks in some modules, lower than expected in a couple of them and higher than expected in two of them. So, that means I get to book my plane tickets to Canada For my year abroad :D :D :D :D :D

Yeah it's pretty rude but I can't be bothered to get offended at everything. I decided to let him off  but if things do escalate then I can definitely stand up for myself where necessary. I'm not hot headed at all, but I can definitely speak up when I need to. |^_^| but a lot worse has happened to me in this town, and a good friend of mine was called a terrorist (n) word because she's black and Muslim. It's kinda ridiculous

I don't care if it's fast food or slow food. There is never an excuse to insult someone using their nationality! It has no effect on their suitability for the job whatsoever. It's low class, rude and shameful. A manager should know better. I'm pretty militant about these things. Got on a bus with my boyfriend today and a man behind him asked him where he was from. "England" he said, then he asked him whether I was from Africa. Then my boyfriend said "It's irrelevant." and he goes "Some of them Africans are alright" I could see my boyfriend getting a bit wound up but the guy didn't really say anything harmful to be honest so no point getting annoyed at nothing. However, if someone criticised me using my race or nationality as a reason for the criticism, I would lose it. (unless they were bigger and stronger than me) In other news, exam results come out in the next few days yikes. Going to distract myself up until the moment of truth. I essentially find out whether I book my flight ticket to Toronto and organise my study permit............... Or..... I don't have a backup plan lol, I'm going to Canada I don't even care.

My boyfriend only just started working at McDonald's as well. Only been there two days and his colleagues are racist, sexist high school dropouts and he was talking to one of them about something and the guy randomly described black people as animals and needing to be kept in the zoo. Was a bit awkward for my boyfriend and he wisely decided not to explain that his girlfriend is black  They also constantly disrespect female managers and make fun of women on the job. Anyway, yeah working on fries is quite intense according to him as he's never had any sort of customer service job or food-related job. He's undercooked nuggets and got a burn on his arm from the oil, so you could say it's going well :o Good thing the McDonald's I work at isn't anything like that. Even students who have barely any idea what they're doing on the job don't get disrespected (by staff I mean), nor do any of the female staff. It's actually a pretty good working environment. It had been a while since I last worked there and the place had been renovated since, and there's been some changes to the menu and such that I've had to adapt, but even if it's really busy I always feel like I can ask my question to someone else and get a decent reply. And Nox, I've been wondering, what exactly drew you to Qatar in the first place? It's awful, even the manager said to a Lithuanian boy who was working there "If you can't do the job, I'll find someone who can you stupid polish idiot!" It's outrageous and an awful working environment. My boyfriend is constantly being put down for being slow at things he's never done before. Apparently after three shifts, you're not a trainee anymore.
  6. back. finished a clockwork syringe. got 80 agility, 80 farming, 78 crafting, 77 mining, 75 divination, 85 woodcutting, 77 slayer an aquarium as well :D all my skills are 74+ now

Laaaaave OITNB  Kinda mixed feelings, two of my good friends have been diagnosed with horrible and dramatically life altering diseases, one of them hindering his chance to study abroad next year  Had a fairly good day yesterday spent sitting in the sun, drinking cold cups of cola and chilling with friends. I was supposed to go to a barbeque but it got cancelled and Big Brother isn't letting me watch most recent episodes that I've missed so my next solution is to buy myself some RS membership and apply for a new job!  My boyfriend only just started working at McDonald's as well. But I need to pay £424 soon to secure my place. It suddenly feels more real, I'm moving away from home in just over two months for a year abroad, crazy huh.

After what has been an absolutely exhausting month, I will take my last and seventh exam tomorrow at 9 in the morning and then I am free for a good number of months to chill out and get geared up for a year in Canada  |^_^| |^_^| Until then, I must become an expert on proteins overnight.

Ahh ofcourse, I understand. That is a very impressive achievement @MuffinMaddy. You must have worked hard for that. Top 40 out of 120 institutions huehue I missed that bit out for a reason ;) ;) ;) But the point is, it's not a BAD Uni okay, but I'm not like proud of it or anything - won't be defending it to the death :-D My boyfriend got a job at McDonalds for the summer as an overnight guy at the drive-in :D :D I'm still looking for something else, won't rule out old Ronald McDonald though Had two exams so far out of the seven total this month. I think I scored okay in the first one but I am more confident about the second one. The next one is 9am tomorrow and I have missplaced my ID card that you need to prove that you are the rightful person sitting the exam.

Ahh okay, that's very interesting. Which university do you both currently attend? Also, it is interesting how you folk still use knowledge carried over from several years ago. Did you have to refer to your old documents when you took the course since they recycled some old key knowledge? Or perhaps you and Boris don't forget stuff. :P All I'll say is we attend a Uni in the top 40 of the ranked Universities in the UK. Don't want to narrow down our location too much :D To be honest, I have not had to look at anything from GCSE because we've expanded so much on that - but I do remember the things I learnt years back as a foundation for some of the complex things we've had to understand at this point. :)

Imperator,I do the same course at the same institution but I'm a year behind Boris. What I'd say in answer to your question is transcription and translation, cell biology and cell organelles and some chemistry calculations (figuring out the moles of a Substance) are some things that we still use at degree level

I'm aware, constituency is an awful word though. In North American English, people tend to pronounce the second and third syllables as some bastardisation of stitch and chew, and it sounds awful. FPTP may work now to keep out 'extremist' parties, but it also could allow them in with far less than the majority of the vote. And I'd consider SNP a more extremist party than UKIP. UKIP is not too far to the right of the Tories, which makes it amusing you'd call them a party of morons. Lol, there are a fair few morons in the UKIP party to be fair. So many members have said awful things but they are disposed of pretty pronto to be fair.

Even under your premise that the riding matters more than the country as a whole, FPTP is still a failure. If a candidate can win a riding with >30% of the vote, over 70% of the voters in that riding are not represented at all in parliament. I'm a supporter of a form of listless MMP that I could expand on, but STV also achieves representation within a riding and semi-proportional results too (albeit in a far more complicated manner). To be pedantic, in Britain it's a constituency, not a riding, which in Britain is an archaic term for how Yorkshire used to be divided into 3 ridings. As for the whole "candidate can get 30% and win", it's true, but then any parliamentary system with more than 2 parties has the same problem, even in a country like Germany where PR is used - in 2009 Merkel returned as Chancellor with 34% of the vote. Only in Presidential runoffs like US or France does someone always get at least 50% by definition. And in practice, there are many seats where the winner gets more than 50%. My local Tory has just been returned to Parliament with close to 60% of the vote. Very few win with below 30%, they have to be ultra-marginal seats. And, truth be told, FPTP is good at shutting out extremist parties. UKIP is a fringe right party of morons who took almost 4 million votes but 1 MP, and the Green Party are a far left fringe which took a million votes and one MP. In any other system, these would be very powerful parties. In my constituency, Labour won by a landslide. I was surprised that a UKIP person was even running in my area. The "Cannabis Is Safer Than Alcohol" party did alright where I'm from as well.

I did vote Labour but I'm not disappointed with the result. It would not have affected me a whole lot really, I do hope things improve for the vulnerable but I am scared they will only get worse. The Tories got in in the constituency I live in for uni but for my home constituency, a Labour MP was elected by a landslide. I do kind of wish I was back home voting, but oh well. I think the Tory guy for the town I go to uni in seemed kinda solid. UKIP got in where my boyfriend is from and it was their only seat, there's a lot of banter regarding that
  22. calling someone a little shit can be affectionate - in the UK anyway it's not always meant as an insult.

Voted in the General Election. Feeling anxious but hopeful for the future of Britain. Watching the live broadcasts of the vote counting as we speak. :|
