Guthan, now worthless? Bones to peaches discussion.
oddfaery2 replied to Bloodveld's topic in General Discussion
Wrong, it doesn't heal everytime, it heals whenever the purple smoke appears, this appears randomly. yes he is aware. but whenever it does heal, it heals what you hit. If you wear normal armor, and weapon, then use your guthan to heal, you pay about 377gp for every minute you heal. In most cases you are wearing it for much shorter a period of time to get back to full health. This makes it definitely cheaper (based on repair costs) than using lobs, if you can get the set. with bones to peaches, as you said, you need a lot more inventory space to make this worth it. Which is part of what makes Guthan so handy (even if you have it only taking 4 slots). On top of that, if I'm fighting something that drops normal bones instead of big bones, d bones, or ashes... I probably do NOT need food to heal (or at least not good food). I'll stick to my Guthan, but that's just me. -
Quick tip for all of you abyss crafters...

They actually stayed to fight you? Overall, I have nothing against RC PK'ers. The only ones I despise though are those who will attack you whilst you're RC'ing, but teleport as soon as you come back ready to fight them  That's why I see the whole thing as being a waste of time. Essentially you try to save your own time by getting them to change worlds instead of you, but in the end you just used up more time that you could have saved by quickly changing worlds within 30 seconds instead of withdrawing and changing all your equipment to fight. Then you get your abyss rc'ing stuff back out, only to find a new pker you have to take out, all the while risking your own death. Just not worth the time or effort to me. It might seem kind of cowardly, but when I rc, my goal is to get efficient and quick xp. Not to lay down the law or clear out the level 5 wildy, but just to runecraft. Abyssal pkers to me are just distractions that I don't want to have to deal with. To each his own really. But for all you know when you get to the next world there's just going to be another PKer. I'd rather get rid of the few that come than hop 5 times to find a safe place. Not to mention, if you know me in game I'm not the type to hop worlds just cuz somebody shows up trying to interrupt what I'm doing. Many have considered me a jerk cuz of this (when mining, gathering 2nds, etc)... but in the long run it seems to save a bit of time. -

Better than taking the time to do that, just keep your PK stuff together in the bank and if they start trouble with you, go back ready to fight. I've done this to several of them, and not a single one has lived without running away, and all who have died did so trying to run away. People PK there because they don't have the faith in themselves to fight people prepared for combat. Give them a run for their money and they'll change worlds. -
One of my personal favorites is the level 28 Corpselooter with 99 thieving and owns/wears dragon chain :D

They're not using scripts as much as you seem to suspect (and don't take this as my saying they're not at all). They have been doing a lot of manual hunting in common macro places to see things for themselves. I think I can safely say that Jagex doesn't want to wrongfully ban players (especially p2p)

no. in a run-conserving trip without failure it takes a little over 3 minutes (by run-conserving I mean that you run during the trip but you end with as much as you started with, so you don't ever run out). Canifis and wild are still faster for high agility levels by a good margin.

Let's help Jagex mop up the fishing guild
oddfaery2 replied to Peronix's topic in General Discussion
I used to play a game called Utopia, which was claiming 100k+ players around the time I quit. Problem with that game though is that the biggest rule in the game (pretty much the only rule) isn't enforced worth jack. Thousands have quit the game in disgust with changes the owner has made, but this lack of rule enforcement is a huge issue, and most the players who still play (that I've kept in contact with) tell me they don't even care about the game, they just play to keep in contact with their friends. The point is, if Jagex didn't ban p2p accounts for breaking the rules, it would result in huge increases of players breaking rules that they see they can get away with, which would then result in higher losses of legitimate players who quit in disgust. Banning a minority of rule-breaking players keeps the majority in the game. -

I don't know if this has been said or not, but just because a low level is working on skills and not talking to you doesn't mean he is auto-ing. In my early days I had tons of people accuse me of auto-ing because I was either occupied with other things (like talking on the phone while I mined) or I simply wanted nothing to do with the people trying to talk to me. Point is... don't assume somebody is auto-ing simply because they ignore you. Sure they might be, but there should be more evidence than that before you go making reports. -
I think you should share what you're smokin' :P

There a reason you need to create a new account in order to try to call my pic a fake (which is 100% legitimate)? I have no reason to make fake pictures... I'd waste my time trying to explain logic and set theory to you before making a fake pic of Runescape.

nah I don't think it's edited. I just think he got somebody to put that stuff up on a trade, then got it on 2nd screen where the other person declined.

Yeah, sadly you have to be very cautious with mentioning websites anymore. You may try to defend yourself with Jagex if you get something like this from just mentioning a website (e.g. if they gave me a mark for saying I work for tipit), but if you're telling people they should go to the website there's not much you can do even though OUR site is safe.

The common idea (I'm assuming people would be smart enough for this) is to go to low level creatures in stuff that'll lower your magic offense, then use the curse/stun whatever spells until they are successful, and after that use the upper level ones until they fail, then kill the thing (or have somebody kill). This is pretty cheap, but I don't know if I'd consider it worth the hassle. With the extra time it takes to finish off the kill and whatnot, may as well alch and get some profit out of it. it is very handy if you craft a lot of glories though :)

lol he didn't even accept... you wanna see (legitimate) nice, here's NICE A friend quit shortly after I got keylogged and wanted to help me get back on my feet.

New fastest route from 21-99 mage (now under 4 hours)
oddfaery2 replied to desipardesi's topic in General Discussion
Honestly 99 magic is too easy to get via alching and other means that I don't think people would pay 100-200m to do it. Even when charge was popular it wasn't nearly that expensive (at least not from whatever level I calced the costs from before) -
Desert Treasure is great for mage PKing and the teleports can have some great benefits. e.g. when going to barrows you can use tele to ice mountain, recharge prayer, then teleport to canifis to bank. or when rune mining with teleport to ghorrok it can significantly increase your profits by decreasing your bank time.

now its like teetering on being a good to mild then to, occasional $ maker. 3.4mil per drop is pretty good id say but the thing is if whips go down to 500k each, im sure people would stop slaying abby demons soo massively 3.4m a whip is good if somebody just wants to get combat up. If they're at abbies just for the sake of making money, there are much faster ways... at least at the rate I get whips (and others I know).

Nats worth 300 each, plates alch 1200 each. 1200-300= 900 900/5= 180 180gp back for each bar you spent 500-600 each on is good return? You're better off with gold gauntlets and selling gold bars if you do that. did you do the gold gaunts for smithing exp?:P For much of it yes. I did VERY little smithing with steel. I'd honestly say less than 500k xp worth (which for 99 isn't much). I had gold gaunts before Jagex ruined the Family Crest reward, and I got almost all my levels from either iron, gold, or doing rune. There were some side projects once in a while though (e.g. 10k bars of cannonballs and 9k bars worth of addy darts), but those were my primary means of raising smithing. I used about 20-30k of the gold bars to make jewelry until I had 90 crafting :)

The idea of being able to smith full rune fascinated me at first. I'm big on self-sufficiency, and if I go PK (not that I ever do) in wild and die in full rune I can just go make another set... I just love being able to say that. anyway, smithing IS profitable if you want it to be. The following are a few ways you can buy all supplies and PROFIT in smithing. 1: Trade products for supplies whenever you can: I got my entire last level in smithing from smithing full rune or kites for other players. I had one particular guy make a ton of money off of this too. He was giving me about 5m worth of rune at a time to do at first, and by time I was done it was 10m worth at a time. This doesn't actually MAKE you GP, but it saves you from buying supplies. 2: Buy supplies and sell products: This is commonly done with cannonballs, but you can also do this with things like knives, darts, arrowheads. I did this with iron ores back when I could get them 50 each and made arrowheads that sold for 10 each. Even with the increase in ore prices this can still be profitable, just not as much. Also, once you get to rune you can get ores for 12k or less easily. If you pay 200 each for coal and 300 each for nats, that costs you 13.9k a bar. You can smith rune products and sell for at LEAST 15k per bar, and often 16-20k a bar. That's at least 1k profit per bar. If you have regular ore sellers and product buyers, this can make some fast GP. 3: Buy supplies and use products: Buying supplies and using the products yourself can also make it worthwhile if you're training other skills. For example making your own throwing knives and darts will pay for itself and then some when you get drops from worthwhile foes. Or if you go the gold gauntlet route, and make jewelry out of it (even if you buy the gems), you can profit. This takes a little more time and effort, but if you're GP-conscious, you can come out ahead this way. 4: Mine your own stuff: Not many want to do this, but it makes smithing a lot easier if you mine some (or all) of the stuff yourself. If you mine your own runite you can make a LOT of profit :D

Slayer was a great money-maker at any level when it first came out. Anymore it's just a good way to raise combat, but not what I'd use for primary "income"

Party Hat Drop Indicates a Healthy Market
oddfaery2 replied to r2-pleasent's topic in General Discussion
It doesn't take a merchant to pick up on this one. This year has had 3 big influences on prices: 1: Slayer: When the first few hundred players got to 85 slayer they made previously unimaginable amounts of GP in a very short time. At first it was easy to get a few whips a day, or at least a whip every day or two. At prices well over 10m each for over a month or two, that really added up. Aside from whips, just GETTING to 85 slayer was very profitable for the first to do so. I made about 5-6m from addy boots the first weekend I had 75 slayer, and mauls were going for 2m a piece. I was one of the slower to get 85 slayer (out of the people who started strong in it) and around my 1 year mark had around a 250m bank. I had stayed around the top 200 or so in slayer until I got bored and sick of combat and worked on smithing and some other skills. Was around the 500th person to get 85 when whips were 8m a pop. High levels with 85 slayer bought dragon bones and rares, knowing that their ownership and holding of them would profit them when prices rose more. This was the beginning, then... 2: Barrows: Barrows came out and completely changed the face of combat in Runescape. Players of just about any skill level could attempt grabbing pieces of armor selling at rediculous prices. This gave those who didn't raise slayer a chance at some sweet drops without much of a time investment. The prices of sets at first were absurd. Sets that are no more than 1-2m now were selling 15-20m upon release. Only Guthan has retained anything near its original prices. Torag was the primary choice at first until word spread of the set effects with Guthan. So what does this all matter? People who have never had large amounts of gold in the past were suddenly making more in a day than some players have made in the whole time they've played RS. These players wanted rares, and with as easy as they made their money, didn't mind paying a little more than average in order to get them. This made for a big [bleep]e in rare prices, which then went on to... 3: Merchants/Manipulations: With so much demand for rare items, merchants and their friends saw an opportunity to profit. The forums were flooded with combinations of overpriced sellers and also overpriced offers. Regardless of how obvious it was that some of these threads were fake, and nothing more than a bad attempt to jack up prices, they managed to bring up the prices of rares to levels you wouldn't have even imagined a year before. *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* The combination of these things (highly uneven distribution of gp, masses of newly wealthy players, and profit-seekers) combined for a nice skyrocket of rare prices. Honestly I've never cared much about rares. The only one I've ever wanted was my red phat (which cost me 30m MORE to replace after getting keylogged than my original one did... grrr), but it is interesting to see how much the prices change and what people will pay for a useless item (myself included lol).
