From now on, also demented 55 year old women carrying a tube of toothpaste in their purses are potential terrorists who fill the tubes with nitroglycerine and may be held for questioning for hours and the rest of the people in the queue get evacuated because their lives are potentially 'threatened'. Whatever happened to real problems? Instead of tsunamis, large ones haven't occured in ages, or terrorism, why not look at "real" terrorism, such as smoking which causes 400,000 deaths alone in the USA every year? And how many people exactly died of terrorism last year.. No, make that in the last decade.. Wait, in the HISTORY of the United states, compared to the number of deaths caused by smoking every single year? Do the math, just smoking kills 50 people per hour, or about 7,000 people a week. That's double the amount of dead people after 9/11.

I can't be bothered to dig up any old topics but the proof is out there whether you were being sarcastic with the singing comment or not. 8-) They do seem to plug their ears when you tell them anything that goes contrary to their brainwash agenda. I'm talking about this kind of people. I'm sorry to shock you Ghost, they are absolutely for real. The site has existed for a long time and it is not a spoof. People like that do exist, even on message boards such as tip.it (just with a different set of 'beliefs') The sad thing is that site resembles a typical 'creationist evidence' site a LOT. Look at their "evidence" section. I wish creationists would start taking the subject more seriously, because quite frankly, when it comes to finding out the origins of life, every new theory is welcome even if it may not be up to the standards of evolution for example.

âš£25 per day to drive an SUV in London
BlueLancer replied to Necromagus's topic in Off-Topic
Because some people are either lazy or think public transportation is 'weird'. In my opinion, unless you are in a real emergency situation, there is no point in using a car in metropolitan areas of huge cities like London when public transportation caters almost every place so well. You wouldn't believe the outrage in the US if they made a similar restriction. Within minutes people would be screaming 'nazis' and 'you take away our freedoms'. Who needs a SUV anyways? It's a SPORT UTILITY VEHICLE. When was the last time you transported sports utilities in a SUV and bought the car just because your earlier 'utilities' couldn't fit in your old car? I just hate pompous jargon like 'SUV'. Just call it 'gas and emission monster' (GEM). People will still use it because it sounds like jewelry, which is just as pompous. The average american SUV driver is at least 40 pounds overweight and his only sport utility is the remote controller, no offense meant. -
I can say from experience that arguing with this kind of people is worthless, other than for entertainment purposes. There haven't been many recently, but the instant you show them concrete proof that directly blasts "your claim is complete and utter bull*" in their face, they mysteriously stop posting and after some time, still post their theories simply on another topic.

It's not a matter of "would they", it's a matter of "would you". Quite frankly, I don't care about these hypothetical situations. I personally want to help them, and if they aren't even asking for money but for a baguette or something, why wouldn't I? Sometimes, it can feel nice to be different from other animals (though there are exceptions) and actually stay and help another person with human feelings. I'm asking you and everybody else, what do you lose? I gave some pennies/food to poor people since I was like 14 or 15, and I didn't even have an income back then. Heck, if you're a religious christian/muslim, both of the holy books advise you to give a small tithe to poor people (somewhere around 1/40th of what you have). I don't do it because of some religion or because I want to please some supposed God. I do it because I don't lose ANYTHING by making a poor persons day better by spending a few minutes of my time and possibly a few measly dollars. I would say those drunkards and drug abusers are not even a majority, at least I've seen few of them. Just saying "it's their own fault they're so dumb loll throw them in 2 jail rofl" is another way of signaling 'I don't give a crap'. Fine. You're entitled to your behavior and opinion. Still, rather than being cocky, I see helping people less fortunate than me as a blessing, simply because I can help them. I know not many people will help them, so why not? Does it make me weird or filthy or 'ridiculous' that I fed somebody who possibly can't afford his/her own food?

Then again, try disproving santa claus :P

The page on Monty Hall explains it well, I too didn't think it was 2/3 at first, but it does make sense. Read it.

Pacifism is overrated, if I was in your situation, I would definitely help my friends in a similar fashion. Only a coward would have a propaganda flashback in his mind, telling him "don't get into fights, it will ruin your life and you'll go to jail and lose everything you have and hungry sheep will feast on you" There's no need to blame yourself for anything. Maybe you live in a relatively peaceful neighborhood. After you spend a few years of your life living in a less peaceful area (Detroit) because of your work, you will realize things like this are a reality of life, but never get into a fight for no reason and calling the cops is often a good idea. If somebody attacks your friend, of course you're justified to go and help him. I'd even say obliged, if you are a true friend. If my friends initiated the fight, then no, I wouldn't help them. But in this scenario his friends were attacked first, so I'd definitely help my friends (though I'd advise them not to annoy anybody by calling them 'pie eater')

The President makes $400,000/year. So, you must be from a country in which currency has an extremely low value. I know this dude that's a pharmacist. Makes 100,000/year, and is still poor! Well, it's because he spends too much. His $300,000 house doesn't even have have air conditioning. I'm not sure what you were implying, but in monetary terms, $400,000 a year is a rather low salary. I even personally know 2 people who earn more than that without (obviously) being presidents. There are tens of thousands of americans, if not hundreds of thousands, that earn more than the president. Do you need it? No. You can't be poor in this world if you live on even $100k a year (or $75k like ShadowFaxPZ mentioned, combined with his wife's salary probably over $100k). In some poor countries, people may not earn that amount in their entire lives. In the USA you can still get a very, very nice apartment with that kind of a salary. Living under the poverty line is considered as living on under $1 dollar a day. If you grew up in a western country you can't understand how little that is, that's true poverty. Well, do the math. It's less than $400 a year, some businessmen spend that amount or even much more on a single dinner with a friend. There are wealthy people that spend 1000 times that amount on a useless diamond to present to somebody as a gift.

I don't play RS anymore, and even though you posted on the wrong forum I can tell you it's a very common item. If somebody offered you 1.5 million I'd (gasp) taken it, however it's real value would be in the hundreds of gold.

Lol, just ask "which pole is green". You'll find out since the other one always lies so obviously you wont pick that one. Pointless.. If I was suicidal though, I'd ask the honest guy, "what's the red pole for". For all I know it could lead to a chocolate wonderland and you miss the chance because you didn't ask. Then, when you came back with a stomach (and pockets) full of chocolate, you still have a 50% chance of surviving AND you experienced paradise on earth. Or then it just leads to hell, but I wouldn't care since I was suicidal anyways. Ordinary people sometimes need entertainment that makes them feel smart, so if it makes a lot of money for the owners of the company, don't expect them to cancel their shows anytime soon.

I can punch you over standard TCP/IP, so beware. I'm not a power abuser though. How'd an atheist like you get those powers before me? :P ;) The thing is, I'm not an atheist. 8-) I don't rule out the possibility of a God's existence (but I don't declare it as a fact that one exists). Actually, I was baptised at birth. But I gained the punch power simply by hard drill and training methods.

the chinese trains cannot fly. they hover on repelling magnets and are pushed along by magnets. this article should clear it up :D http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maglev_train I knew the magnet part, but thanks for crushing my final dream. I knew santa was fake since I was 5 but this is just too much. My parents lied again. By the time you finish reading this sentence I have cut my wrist.

For the prizegiver, it's the worst situation (other than just straight out handing out the cash). Your chances of getting at least one prize is 100%, and your chance of getting both is 66.6% (evil). The statistics can't be changed just by changing your pick.
-
Speaking of which, your avatar location reminds me, in GTA2 there was *some* method to make your car fly. That was so awesome, I don't think it was exactly a cheat though, but cool.
-
Nevermind, Matt burst my bubble, I rest my case, defeated.. But still, chinese trains can fly and I'm not giving up on that one.
-
Sorry, could you rephrase that? I don't quite understand. It's clearly not underground as shown in the second diagram. As you can see, there's nothing in the red circle. So it must be underground, though that wont explain the shadow. But flying cars are weird anyways.
-
...I thought it's pretty obvious it's underground. I saw it when I watched the second Harry Potter movie with my cousin, now it has no use. You also don't seem to have read about China's ultraspeed trains that go 270mph and they literally float in the air. Now that if something is awesome, but it will be normal everywhere in the world by the time our grandchildren live. (It IS real)

I laughed so hard reading through this topic, maybe somebody else will fail to see the humor... If you don't appreciate the randomness of Monty Python you just wont get it. Anyways, to help the poor guy, I think you'll be able to get at least about $400 from all of the stuff, hopefully more. Just an estimate.

One giant step for home entertainment!
BlueLancer replied to thedepressedsquirrel's topic in Off-Topic
I don't get it, even if TDS is maybe a bit of a 'colorful' person on the forums, this is a totally legitimate thread. Read the article, it's very interesting. That is AWESOME. But since the thing weighs 3kg (about 6lbs), you wont really see many people, especially kids like in that picture, using it. They'll have to make a lighter version. Sure, it's kind of "useless", but have you ever been to a 360degree cinema? When you watch one of those special movies custom made for the theatres where you fly over huge icebergs, it literally feels like you're there and you may lose feeling of your legs. I try to be as rational as possible and don't let entertainment effect me too much, but in that case it's impossible. I wonder what it would be like if you really fear heights, you'd know for sure nothing can happen to you but you could pass out because you're so shocked. -
I don't find gory movies that much fun, or especially scary. I watched both of the new horror films lately (The Grudge 2 and Saw 3), and even if IMO The Grudge 2 was a bit lame, it was a hundred times scarier than Saw 3. Gore/exploit movies have the same shock value as the guys in Jackass drinking the... of a horse or eating it's ...., I don't see how it's "that" much fun compared to real psychological horror. Quite amusingly some of my friends who claimed Saw III was a lot of fun, refused to go to the cinema with me to watch The Grudge because "they don't like that kind of stuff". :P And it's not even that bad. I can punch you over standard TCP/IP, so beware. I'm not a power abuser though.

Yeah, I find that ridiculous. I wont mention any usernames, but once I got this angry PM from a guy I had quoted on some post, and he said "I don't want any antichrist freaks like u quoting me" (referring to the fact that I showed him a verse from the Bible that contradicted his opinion of killing 'infidels' as being justified, maybe 3 weeks earlier) Also, these certain people who turn debates into useless garbage can usually be identified just by their writing style and grammar and their interesting, surprisingly common ideology (common to many 13 year olds who think they know about life) such as "i thnik lezbiens n ghey shud be burnt alive", "omfg if u think global warnin is real y dont we scorch 2 deth rofl" and "cirque du soleil is fun" I wish my grass were emo so it would cut itself. Just kidding :P Trying to find something positive..

Within days of release there will most likely be a hack that makes it possible to transfer music without limitations like "3 plays only", I don't get it why they make stuff like that just to please copyright holders. They know people will find a way around it, but then they can say, "at least we tried".

Sure you only get one chance at life, and you should do whats fun, but you wont have fun when either you are living with your parents when you are older, or you are out on the streets cause you cant get a good job. I'm not saying getting all F's is good, I got mostly C to D and a few A's in school, which is not very "academically qualified", but I can still live on my own and fortunately I have enough money to daytrade stocks as a profession which also leaves me with a lot of spare time for gym and other activities. Not everybody has to study for 15 years to become a lawyer to 'stay away from the streets'. (Heck, even if you're a plumber, in those 15 years you will earn ove $300,000 after taxes and the other guy has no job income for a large chunk of his life) I don't discourage anybody from studying, quite on the contrary, but if you have a bit of knowledge about how the world really works (and how actually money is the only thing that matters in maintaining a standard of living), you will see there are numerous ways to go on about life and earning money etc. without having to resort to illegal activities. P.S. I quit playing runescape about 4 years ago. :)

Nah, I don't have a beef with socialism; Most people have a very biased opinion on it without even knowing what they're talking about. Too many people confuse socialism and communism, because socialism can exist even in a democratic country. On the issue of women and men being equal and starting to work on the future... Sadly, if we are to look at things objectively, many countries do not want gender equality. In certain countries, even the women themselves think it's ridiculous that a woman should be involved in politics for example. In some countries, I guarantee you can walk around all you want and for a 100 years you will not see a female car mechanic. But you are right, because educating people about the benefits of democracy is better than living in ignorance influenced by culture. It is not biased to say so even if I grew up in democratic country/ies. A human doesn't get to choose where he/she is born, therefore I think everybody should have a fair chance at life. Look at countries like the United Arab Emirates for example, even without their recent oil wealth, their GDP per capita is huge, over $30,000 (and taking into account just the median income including about 20-30% bonus on oil incomes, $40k) They educate males and females alike, the young people start caring less about the neighbor wearing a hijab or not, Dubai for example has become at least as magnificent as Tokyo or New York, I can only see benefits to educating people and removing Borat-esque dumbness and superstition from the world.
