You're right about the time part. Time can only be linear for periods of time *we* specify. In reality, even if the Earth has existed for 4.5 billion years, time has existed infinitely before that. Which makes my head ache, because it would be interesting to see the first atom form out of nothing, and everything before that was just absolute blackness, for billions and billions of years. The world shouldn't exist by logic, because we are bound by the laws of nature. However, there must be a starting point when the first atoms started forming into objects, dust, rocks etc. to form the big bang. It is also logically impossible those atoms formed out of nothingness, because the law of conservation clearly states matter as energy can be transformed, but it can never create excess energy surpassing it's own capacity. Which in my opinion leaves the option of a supernatural being at least "open" if not proven.

I will NEVER again claim I was bored at school, you rocked my world.

I dare to say a person who isn't tolerant towards people different than himself and doesn't listen to alternate ideas with an open, neutral mind will never achieve full understanding of life and spirituality. Therefore, discarding all sources of bias and hatred is the best way to go. I don't understand the problem of choosing to do this. Looking down upon certain people who have done nothing criminal nor ever insulted you, is to me a clear sign that person is ignorant and not really as intelligent as he/she thinks of himself. To my mind springs the irrational hatred of gay people, disabled people, people of ethnic minorities. Hating them can have no factual basis. I'm an agnostic too, and I think it may be at least possible. Now, if you think about it hard enough, 'something' can't be born out of "nothing". But infinity is such a hard concept to grasp. The following is a great example: Infinity in our world though is an impossibility. There isn't an infinite abudance of anything, but maybe in the space, the possibilities are endless.

Merc just explained why watching people like Benny Hinn is good entertainment, so I'd have to disagree with the whole idea of "televangelism is garbage". Not only that, but it's amusing that people like him really become multi-millionaires after preaching about the perks of living an ascetic life. And Benny also holds money meetings, where he gathers up to 500 people who pay hundreds of dollars to get in the hall and chant "lord, grant us wealth" "I have been touched by God and I will be overflown with money". No offense but those people in the audience aren't mentally ill nor desperate, they are plain dumb.
-
Sounded like you "really" wanted to know what it means... Sorry. Anyways, it would be a tad bit funny if they were to compete against some western baseball team, the audiences at home would be 'slightly' amused at the other team.
-
I don't understand the question. "The Nippon-ham Fighters" is the name of the baseball team which competes against other baseball teams. Why would you ask "are the red sox fighting against or for sox"? Just an ordinary japanese site, nothing "scary" about it...

Is the triumph of liberal ideas a tendency on the long term?
BlueLancer replied to apinagez's topic in Off-Topic
People make up cultural definitions of what society 'should be'. I didn't know this was another topic exclusively about sexuality, but if for example the American society is to revert to the 'ultra liberal' days of Rome where practically nothing is shunned upon, then it will. People have proven to be happy to live in such a society, if enough people think it's good, it will become the norm. This kind of development can hardly be seen in other developed countries though, such as scandinavia (though it is not a single country). While they have ideologically achieved almost ultimate liberality without sacrificing social benefits, they are not overly sexual or morally decayed (see the least corrupted countries) and their populations are of moderate size. -

There's no such theory, if you'd like to show me a reliable research that says "humans evolved from apes", then it's ok. I've yet to see one. Because there is none, because humans didn't evolve from monkeys or apes or whatever, though there may have been similarities between early humans and apes. Also, not every conservatie disbelieves in science, many embrace science as the supreme natural truth (not divine), while still believing in a God. You may want to read the thoughts of Pope John Paul II, the head of the catholic church (now dead). He was one of the most reasonable religous people, and he held the most powerful religious position in the world. You'd suppose he's the epitome of conservatism, but read further: http://www.its.caltech.edu/~nmcenter/sc ... -9211.html On the issue of liberalism prevailing, just take a look at history and the quote "First they'll laugh at you, then they will fight you, then you'll win". New and liberal ideas with solid backing will be always first shunned upon, eventually being embraced by the society. Then, after a certain time period, society will go backwards and disintegrate, just like Europe went from roman civilisation and luxuries to the dark ages full of famine, war torn kingdoms and few cultural and societal advances. The same could happen soon, but the globalised world as we speak of it has only existed for a few decades, I doubt it's already starting to collapse. The only inevitable problem I see is sources of energy and global warming, especially the first one. But even if we were to only use fossilic fuels, there is still enough oil for 40 years, which is a lot of time which can be spent on researching better options. -
The median age of death is about 82 years, and according to the statistics people get married at approximately 26-27 years old. But surely some people die before that, some may die a day after the wedding, on a general scale the data is quite trustworthy as it samples all age groups. Link? I know only the females are set at above 80. Can't reach that gold anniversary if their spouse is dead can they... I already listed the two sources, but I'll link it again: http://www.divorcemag.com/statistics/statsUS.shtml I was giving rough estimates based on what I had memorised, in fact the median age of first marriage is 26.9 for males and 25.3 for females. It doesn't list living expectancy, which is 77.85 years for males and 80.82 for females. You can find it here. https://cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/us.html Also, it's just a median, many males and females today live much longer than that, the statistics are also biased because it doesn't sample the average american, it samples everybody from the oldest living (over 100 years) to the shortest living (under 70). Still, by those statistics most males, after being married for 50 years, would still have some of their life left, females having more obviously. It is quite safe to say the majority of divorces do not happen because of the death of either the husband or the wife.

Just wanted to have some fun this year, when the kids came over to my door and rang the bell, asking 'trick or treat', I answered "trick" and shut the door gently but with determination. Had to repeat it a few times during the night. I waited for hours, they never did anything to me, I felt evil. Wouldn't mind having my wall egged right now for some thrill.

UNDERAGE USER ALERT!! (age requirement discussion)

English is also a native/second language in many other countries in Africa, Hong Kong, Canada, India, which is about 20% of the world population. The other 80% still manage to play the game so it's not an issue. -
Yes I agree some people can be happily married for over 40 years. However, how many marriages end through lust, I don't know the statistic but I think it's something like 1/3 marriages don't work out. I think the rest only remain married because by that time they have had children and want to stay together for the sake of them. I know it is very pessimistic of me but that's my opinion. I just wrote that for the sake of sounding balanced and giving hope, you may want to view the official statistics in the United States, also here. Almost everybody in USA will be divorced in one phase of their life or another. People simply fail to realize when they get married that nothing is going to stay "perfect", things change both in your home, your head, in the world, which leads to divorce. Which may lead one to think that you could live a perfectly happy life, even with another person, without "marriage" unless you're a part of the minority that stays together for "all their lives" as promised in the wedding.

Haha, I wouldn'tve reported this post though just because this guy has spammed before. It probably wouldn't be 'that' horrible being on a boat with a tip.iter. 8-)

No, because it's psychological. Since birth you learn to trust your 'mother', let's say the swap had already taken place just after the babies were born, they could have a hard time accepting their "real mother" as their own. Nothing. I try to avoid that phrase now, it's so inflated and overrused in movies, media, by people, everywhere... I try to word it differently. It's as if my ear is being stung by needles when I hear it being used for almost no reason at all, it's becoming like the phrase "I promise". It depends on how you define love, itself it's just a word that describes the hormonal changes in your brain when you like another person. A God on the other hand you have never met and have no idea if he exists. (From a factual viewpoint, nothing wrong if you're spiritual) but you can still 'love' him, which just proves it's all up in the brain. Your ancestors possibly worshipped a god carved to a rock, and they could still love it, today we'd just ridicule it. That leads me to think we could be in love with an "idea". Not just the qualities of the other person but a mystified picture of him/her that eventually, after years, starts to fade. Though, not always. There are also some people who have been married for 40 years happily.

I already preordered a total of 3 of PS3 now, but the third one was ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâý paid by my friend so we're splitting the profits on that. My only purpose is selling them for a profit. Which so far seems like an insanely good idea, as you can see, some people are actually willing to bid more than even $1000 to get one quickly. It's sad so many people will pass an opportunity like this.

Happy Halloween..! 8-) I actually logged into RS to see the halloween stuff they have this year, some sort of a skeleton thing. Looks great with the 'oldschool' scythe. Also, I remembered the password on my age old account, wow, sure hadn't logged into that one for ages. This is the off topic though so wont go into details, but halloween is halloween..

Guide of Runescape Maximums [Updated to 09062007] Retired
BlueLancer replied to Guitarted7's topic in General Guides
Here comes the nerdy part.. The integer type 'long' used for java programming (like runescape) results to the maximum number of storable data: They could change the maximum amount to over a septillion GP/stackables (9,223,372,036,854,775,808) which is theoretically impossible at least in runescape. Integers higher than 64 bits cannot be used in java, which would result in the doom of runescape. -
Don't worry, everybody 'gets it'.. Just like video game ROM sites state you can use the file for a maximum of 24 hours unless you have a "backup", or the p2p filesharing programs that have a "disclaimer" that their networks are and should be only used for distributing legal documents, or the private mmorpg server sites that say 'you may only use our site for educational purposes'... 8-)

Somebody mentioned putting it in a high interest bank account and living off it. As said, that's impossible, invest it properly if you wouldn't spend it. You may not use my master plan below without agreeing to give me at least 10% of the proceedings. I'd convert it to pennies so that I have huge golden (brass) treasure chests full of coins with pirate signs on the sides, and bribe kids into giving me their parents car keys they find in their home in exchange for 'a chest full of money' which is in fact only a few thousand bucks. Then I'd sell the cars and repeat the above, hopefully never getting caught, write philosophical folk songs about my pursuit for wealth and become a billionaire beloved by the people.

That's exactly what I'll teach my kids one day too. Ultimately no amount of training will protect even somebody like Bruce Lee (in real life) against 6 people with brass knuckles, running away being the best possible option. To truly be able to effectively oppose and knock down violent people, I would argue you don't even need a black belt; a green belt will still be able to beat an arrogant, preferably irish, drunkard swinging his arms around like a monkey trying to hit your face.

I was about to post that. I never watch medical TV shows, but if I switch on the TV and there's House, I'll start watching the episode. That main doctor makes simply brilliant comments and when he's pissed off at something or someone (which is most of the time), has a great maddox-esque way of systematically pissing off people. Almost unique in today's "politically correct" crap-tv world of "family friendly" ""humor"".

Would you give me a cookie if I showed you? Because there are a lot of power metal / metal band videos that don't follow under any of those. If they're on mainstream TV, I'll give you a 10 megabyte cookie. In Soviet Russia, MTV Plays you. Voyeurs.. :shame: It's called 'Russia' now, they dropped the 'Soviet'. I'm looking forward to the MTV Copenhagen (KÃÆÃâÃâøbenhavn) Awards. Actually it was the Soviet 'Union', but to refer to the old times it can be said "back in Soviet Russia". 8-) Maybe you're being sarcastic again and everybody actually knows how to intepret sarcasm, I have no idea now.

Don't know about Hapkido, but that shouldn't be able at least in Karate (which most people would first think about). It took me from age 13 to age 18 to advance to the 2nd Dan (in shotokan) grade of black belt, and that included a lot of mental/ethical excercises and tests which not even nearly everybody in the group could pass, so it could take even longer.

^ | Lol, how dumb can the advertising publisher be? They're just asking for trouble with that, and chances are that at least 1 person will actually do it and they get sued. Sure it might be hard to monitor the places where outdoors advertisements are but still, that's just awesome, horribly awesome.
