  1. The grammar was bad but I couldn't agree more with that post. By being a bully, hitting, insulting kids like this.. By being a neglecting parent/teacher... You create serial killers. Did someone really think someone with no friends who has been bullied all his life will just "suck it up" as if he's an emotionless robot? Block out all good and happy memories you have that involve your friends/family/girlfriend/any other person you knew. Not very much good stuff remains, huh? In that situation your mind gets filled with hateful and angry memories & thoughts. The killer wasn't born that way. While he was a serial killer, he was also a victim of his overly cold emotional/psychological environment.
  2. Bush threatens to veto the bill for improved healthcare for children, costing an approximate $35 billion, while at the same time approving the bill for an additional $120 billion funding for wars in Iraq/Afghanistan. Even his own republican party disagrees with him, this man keeps screwing up, it's as if he tries to make people hate him? What is more important than ensuring the children in your own country have a healthy childhood? Talebans in Afghanistan are a bigger threat? They don't even have a single freaking airplane to even attempt attacking the US! (Before you jump on the obvious, all of the 9/11 hijackers were nationals of Saudi Arabia) Iraq insurgents? Let's recount... How many airplanes and ships do they have again, if they wanted to attack the US? A big fat zero. It's sad one man leading the country is more dangerous to the american people than the people he funds wars against.

    Astrology

So you'd really believe all 460 million Capricorn in the world will have a similar day and similar events because of what some guy writes about planetary movement? Completely agree with the Maddox article about astrology (nevermind the crude language, it's a comedy site anyways, but so true) Really, *don't* base financial or other important decisions on your horoscope. Please. You're just in for a huge disappointment.
  4. You should know by now that the average American (note: Not one who follows news and posts on message boards) is pretty easy to brainwash into believing whatever agenda any powerful media or government may have. If you never follow world events, just work and feed your kids, you wont really think twice when you hear "suicide bomber kills 21 in Iraq/Israel/Palestine/syria", come on, the thought of Mossad paying massive blood money to the bomber's families for attacking a marketplace & taking the blame on his religion/country/faction... Wont even cross your mind. You can't blame a normal person who isn't educated enough of world events. If he develops a phobia of Islam or always thinks 'terrorist' when he sees an Arab, it's 100% what he heard on the news in the last few years. Nobody is born to hate another group of people. You get info, and you make decisions and opinions based on that. If you only get very limited and xenophonic info, that's what you'll turn into. An intellectually limited racist. Blame the news agencies and channels like Fox who use the misguiding terms, not the ordinary Joe who started hating islamic people because of total misunderstanding.
  5. I completely agree with your view, as my whole live I've refused to be a practical 'slave' to anyone or a tool to their stupid causes.. But I don't see being in the army as being a slave. I'm not a war freak. I think it's an honor I have the opportunity to recieve free training and if the necessity arises, die protecting my family+friends, instead of being a lazy coward and dying with a bad consciousness at age 80 while watching TV in a retirement house for old people. "I refused to do either" Well in some countries you recieve a jail sentence of about 200 days for that (not sure about AUS though). You could do something a lot more constructive in 200 days than sit around in a cell, eat bad food and watch TV. :)
  6. By law you have to show up were you are told to go to if a new draft happens. But you do not have to step across the line, and they can't force you to, when it comes down to it, even if you do pass the tests to see if your fit to serve. Actually, they can force you to step across the line by law and fire up the blackhawk. I have no idea where people get these ideas they could just hide or run to Canada if a draft happens (which wont be now, but it *certainly* will happen in the future if/when the US is threatened). Just in Europe and USA during WW2, people avoiding the draft or refusing to fight were executed under martial law for treason. I don't even want to know what they did to traitors in asian countries before they died. If you these days try to avoid the draft, you wont be executed, but you will be imprisoned for an indefinite of time under military law, as well as being forced to pay a fine of several hundred/thousand dollars, if refusing, the confiscation of your property. You can be also forced to work in a labor camp until the war is over.
  7. I've played all three, quite frankly WC3 and BME2 seemed pretty boring (also, Battle for Middle Earth 2 is a practical clone of Warcraft when it comes to gameplay, but it has *a lot* better graphics) If you want unique gameplay I'd go with Age of Mythology. If you want stock gameplay but a lot of online players, go for WC3 (or the Frozen Throne expansion), if you want nice graphics, go for Battle for Middle Earth. Those are mostly tactical games, but if you're into RPG style games, here's 1 you'll realy want to look into which I also posted on another thread: Assassin's Creed. It's a realistic RPG set into the middle ages, you play a muslim assassin of a secret brotherhood that assasinates political and military targets of islamic and christian factions to restore order. It's coming out soon for Xbox 360 and PC. If you watch the whole video, especially from 2:20, you'll understand why this is a darn good RPG compared to others in the market (massive freedom of movement, yet quite realistic) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEdkDOIe8YM
  8. Moving to video games 8-) P.S: Like Nadril, I'd highly suggest looking into Assassin's Creed. I'm not a big fan of console games, playing just a few times a year.. But heck, that game alone would be worth a 360. Check this YouTube vid of AC: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEdkDOIe8YM Edit, fixed link.
  9. I never said those jobs have a 0% mortality rate. Heck, soldiers in transport duty are probably 10 times more likely to die than a marine in front line combat duties, because of roadside bombs, rocket attacks etc.. If you get conscripted, you don't really get to choose what's "morally wrong" though. What *would* you fight against? Communism? Terrorists threatening to attack your country? A man with character must have 'something' he'd ultimately be willing to die for. If not any ideals, at least the guaranteed wellbeing of his family and friends by defending his country. What I agree with is that I wouldn't go to Iraq or Afghanistan for any reason. I don't see any reason to still be in those countries under the guise of "stabilizing their society" while all they're really doing is guarantee the economic profits and, especially in Iraq, the guaranteed dirt-cheap oil flowing in the US without insurgents blowing up pipelines or getting too politically interested about controlling their own oil fields.
  10. Exactly, the last thing a professional soldier wants is to fight alongside with a whiny 20-year old who shivers in fear and says "I shouldn't be here in the first place". If you are conscripted in the army, there are a ton of jobs not related to combat: Field communication duty (such as administering radio base stations) Equipment delivery/shipping Pilot/driver duty Kitchen duty (serving or preparing food) Demolition duty/construction Scouting/counterintelligence duty Weapons/armor maintenance Engineering duty Medical duty You know, war isn't just about jumping off a plane and rushing in a country like G.I. Joe with two machine guns blazing in both your hands. If you don't have proper training beyond basic skills, you're much more likely to do something else than fight in front lines.
  11. Judging from his posts (and the fact a lot of these 'annoying' kids do exist) I didn't make that assumption :? Have his parents on the other line, and pick up his call... Let them listen to the stuff their kid is saying, then release the other line for speech  He's going to be so embarrassed you could make jam out of the red on his face
  12. If those 5 other brothers grew up to have such moral standards (it's obvious you need to help a kid if he's hurt), I wouldn't give a damn what the other preppy students (who wouldn't give a dying old man's medication on his dying bed) at school think of him. I know a lot of people from big families, they always had someone 'covering' them, and they didn't turn out to be "nerds sitting in the corner" at all. Quite on the opposite I'd see a kid who is constantly neglected when he needs help, turning into a sociopath that will take revenge on other people by buying a gun and killing as many people in his school as possible.
  13. If an imminent threat was posed against, say Scotland, would you take up arms and join the military or just duck in fear behind a toolshed? I can't believe the stuff written here. Your attitudes will probably change after you grow older... Its America. Yes but I was obviously referring to his location. The country is really irrelevant anyways, drafts can happen in other countries as well which don't have a conscription army.
  14. It's sad when people outside these "communities" start thinking that's somehow bad... :P That if some kid hurts himself, you should just imitate "Nelson" from Simpsons and laugh at him instead of offering help+asking others to help you.. Yeah I could *easily* survive without a computer, but especially without a TV. There's nothing a TV is useful for that a computer can't do. Heck, while you're at it, you can watch television shows *while* you're on the computer. News gathering is also much easier with a PC. I'd just have to ask.. Why though? What do you gain by completely isolating yourself from the rest of the world by not knowing current events in the world, people's reactions, situations concerning your country etc..

  16. Well technically Tip.it isn't just a Runescape site :) It used to host communities for Asheron's Call, Dark Ages of Camelot and some other games. Not necessarily everyone here has even played RS at all. Those forums died out however, because the games became unpopular and the players just went away to other games. RuneScape however remained popular and kept rising in popularity by the year. Same problem  Haven't gained a single level since about 2003 and have no desire to... The whole game seems repulsive now, but time will show if it 'improves' somehow (millions of people seem to be content with this one though)
  17. I feel an obsession to go outside and walk when it's extremely cold. I can't rationally explain why though, but I can try to excuse it with having heritage in nordic countries 8-) Sadly a lot of my friends don't agree and stay inside even at the sight of snow, and call me crazy for spending time outside when it's freezing. I guess kids enjoy winter much more because they can be themselves by building snowcastles, throwing snowballs and stuff. Some adults try too hard to be 'mature'. Being an adult doesn't mean you can't have fun once in a while. You were a kid once too.
  18. Yes, it's possible (and not rare at all) for low levels to have big amounts of cash without rulebreaking. If you have proof someone has cheated/drop traded/etc, you have all the rights in the world to report them to Jagex. However it is a bit paranoid to suspend trades with people based on your *opinion* about them, for all you know the other guy did nothing wrong either. Even back in RS classic I saw people with hundreds of millions, and their level was only 70. They merchanted, dueled, etc... For the same reason in real life, the really big banks don't ask you "where you got this money from" if you deposit $10 million in cash or ask to withdraw $10 million. Because frankly, you can't suspect every single rich person to be a criminal or thief just for being wealthy and start questioning them. RS is a complex virtual world, just like the real world is an endlessly complex place. There are nearly an infinite ways of earning money, for all you know, a stranger could've given someone $10M because they had no legacy or children alive. Best way is usually acting if you have very solid proof. A low level being rich doesn't definitely mean he is doing something bad.
  19. Hate to say this, but unless you wish to waste time, in it's current state the official RS forums (on the exception of market boards) aren't something you really want to visit. It's turned into a playground of 11 year old whiners who will blame everything from their connection lagging to their pet turtle dying on Jagex.
  20. Link removed.. But just in case some of you were foolish enough to even TRY to download this file: He's nothing but an account stealer... NEVER download "hacks" or "bots" for RuneScape. You not only break the rules but you are nearly certain to lose your account to people like this.
  21. I'd rather not... Why send in people who are like a piece of meat to hungry predators? The moment they step into duty, they became 'bargaining chips' for the various factions who *will* kidnap them. Heck, they aren't in most cases even allowed to use force in self defense let alone pre-emptively. Insurgents 'respecting' anything? Rebels in Sudan constantly raid UN's world food programme trucks and cars, steal the food & vehicles and disappear. It happens so much they suspended food aid to some areas. Srebrenica, war in Bosnia 1992-1995, 300 UN soldiers robbed of their equipment, taken hostage or recruited into enemy armies under threat of death? Ring a bell? No offense meant to people who serve in the UN, but the organisation's military operations are a joke. Soldiers with blue hats that aren't allowed to fire the weapons they recieved for peacekeeping are just as useful as Wal-mart clerks with pencils trying to control violence. After military, I served 6 months in Kosovo 1999 under UN's peacekeeper program. (Patrol+translating duty, unauthorized to fire weapon under any circumstance) Seeing first-hand how helpless the UN truly is, can be shattering. When real problems arise, local militias and gunmen, NOT the United Nations, step up to the offenders.
  22. Being hacked implicates Jagex as being responsible, since their servers were breaken into. I however don't know of a single case where a Jagex server's security would've ever been compromised, nor do I think organized criminals/professional hackers with the actual skill to hack in their servers would waste time on collecting virtual items with minimal resell value... Most likely 1 of the following happened: 1.You or your children have downloaded a "cheat" or "macro" or any other 'helping' program for RuneScape, which was a keylogger or backdoor trojan. 2.Your password was too easily guessable. Never pick a password that in any way relates to a real word, let alone anything related to yourself or your name/your life. Preferably add numbers as well. 3.Your recoveries were compromised. Someone knowing enough about you could take your password by knowing the answers to your recovery questions.
  23. Not that avoiding war isn't a good survival strategy, but I'm very surprised at the attitudes of people here. If there was a military draft I wouldn't really even give a second thought to 'fleeing the country' if I could make the slightest difference in making a hostile power reconsider their actions against my country. Not that the Iraq or Afghanistan wars have a particularly strong meaning anyways. I don't even know what the heck NATO is doing in Afghanistan other than desperately trying to stop them from exporting heroin (which has so far been a miserable failure since the crops and exports increase every year by nearly 100%)
  24. I hope you're kidding :? The entire war started because of his conviction and 'messages from God' that he should enter this war to 'protect the american people'. Yes, he is the commander-in-chief by law and all generals ultimately answer to him. He could drop an atomic bomb on Iraq if he wanted to, because it's a military resource. He doesn't need approval from the senate or congress to use a weapon.
  25. It's definitely not a fake, Dagbladet is the norwegian equal of Guardian... Those comments are idiotic. "Do it *****" Did these kids ever think there are people in the world who will do what they say?
