  1. @ Cheefo, Your arguments in my opinion aren't that strong. Not keeping warnings and precautions just because there is a line of idiots in the game? When was a time when there never were idiots? So just for the sake of a third of the RS population who are bent to complain no matter if Jagex did provide them the utilities, why should you stop something for the betterment of others. @ FatherJack, Your the first one who has actually stuck to the topic on the warnings and precautions being more prominent [rather than this tutorial/guides thing]. Thanks :) I do know you view this game (or all games) with a particular intent. Your target is totally fixed, to have a bit of fun and discover the game all by yourself. That's fun and enjoyment for you. I admire that in all people (Let me say here that I wouldn't want warnings for myself anyway, its just for the new players). What I really wish, and you have quoted that too, is that do not impart your style of playing the game on other people. Don't expect them to play this game with the same motives as you do. You may be here to explore the game and enjoy that way, others may be here to get a higher level than a friend, and it doesn't help if they killed due to ignorance of a particular feature. The Wilderness ditch isn't optional, so I do not count it as one of the better updates of Jagex. The warnings would be. And also, it would direct the player towards the Knowledge Base where he learn better about this game. (What's the useful of a ton of knowledge if half of the population doesn't read it?). These notes in the KB tell you NOTHING on set-ups, what to do, inventory..they rather provide a description of the thing (delving more into the history). You could read all about General Graardor in the KB and still go and get killed in GWD. Providing descriptions isn't going to rub out your daring. It's going to enhance it. A player would be more aroused to explore a area after he reads that for example, "Lots of monsters roam this area and a daring player would receive high rewards." Thanks.. Lord Shalaj
  2. I gave an example -.- Thanks.. Lord Shalaj PS: Merchanting has affected me a great deal *points at Dharok helms*, I just took it as an example to explain my point..my mistake I guess, I should always clarify everything always. [Even if the previous post did mention it was taken as an example :| ]
  3. If they make the game so easy for new players, people who didn't have the warnings back when they were new, would get mad. They don't want the game to get any easier, and make all their effort to figure things out on their own seem like a waste. I really have no idea what you're talking about with merchanting, though... Not to mention, to get rid of warning from the Doomsayer, you need to have seen them like 10 times at least. It just makes people feel terrible when the game they worked on so hard and found out so much about starts treating them like idiots. Not even the idiots should be treated like idiots, it's better if they found out things for themselves. Otherwise, they'll stay idiots. Things are getting easier. Old players earned money by killing green dragons and banking each and very thing for a moderate amount of profit. Today players are guarenteed profit by killing aviansies, spirit mages (in most cases). Older players had lots of trouble training Agility, Runecrafting, Slayer, Farming. Now we have Distractions and Diversions, Slayer rings, Abyss and ZMI, and various new means of transport to herb patches. Things definitely are getting easier (in terms of skilling) and are getting harder (in terms of boss monsters). Bank _, Grind X, Fletch X options cut down tons of time. I wouldn't be surprised if a Drop all option comes out. So you can't just say this would be unfair to the old players. What I'm trying to say about Merchanting was, if a particular feature doesn't interfere in my gameplay, nor am I anyway affected by it..why does it spoil my "feel" of the game? Thanks.. Lord Shalaj
  4. Half of the people don't know that the Knowledge Base exists. Providing a suggestion that asks the explorer to refer to the RuneScape Knowledge Base solves a fair number of the problems. Repeatedly I am saying that I want this update optional for all players. [using DoomSayer] You can easily cut off all warnings from DS and carry on your game play as before. I find the thought "I know that it exists and that ruins my 'feel' of the game" arguing for the sake of arguing. [sorry, that's my honest opinion :| ] I could retaliate that I don't like Merchanting, but I do know it is very widely done and even though I don't merchant nor I am totally affected by it in any way, I feel it spoils my 'feel' of the game..sounds a bit dodgy? :P Thanks.. Lord Shalaj
  5. I do not want in-depth tutorials or guides :wall:  I just want more prominent warnings/precautions for the new players. Also, most of the new players actually don't know that what exactly the Knowledge Base is. Even if Jagex could just add to the GWD warning sign "It is suggested you read the information given in our Knowledge Base before proceeding unawares" will solve all the problems. If you buy a game, you wouldn't think the thick manual that accompanies it. Rather you would just go out and play. @123Yourgone, Knowing it is there destroys the feel? I don't like many things on RS, but they do exist and if I'm never going to use those things, how does that affect my gameplay? Thanks.. Lord Shalaj
  6. Your argument makes no sense. You are telling Yourgone to not do exactly what YOU ARE DOING. You are just saying the opposite of what he is saying. So according to your logic I should tell you right now to just stop talking and don't tell people how to "feel" the game. Tutorials ruin his feel, they enhance yours. Don't tell him he cant plug his views but then you are plugging yours... Anyone who WRITES their name at the end of every post is usually wrong in every way they think or write anyway. No, there is a simple difference. I am not implying, unlike Yourgone, to get everyone to accept the change. The changes are optional, a quick 10 second work with DoomSayer and you're back to exploring everything yourself again. This makes both the sides happy and your "feel" of the game isn't ruined. I didn't ask him to stop viewing his opinion, how much ever I may disagree with it. And I do write my name and will continue writing. Criticizing the structure of a post rather than the content. I could say anyone who doesn't write their name at the end of the post will mean that his post is going to be rubbish. How mature does that sound? Thanks.. Lord Shalaj
  7. The way you define the "feel" of the game is different from others. What I'm trying to say is that don't try to imply your wish of playing on others. Each prefers his own way to play and each has a different way of defining a particular game's essence. Thanks.. Lord Shalaj
  8. Inexperienced low level people don't go to the godwars dungeon, your rant is a joke, you just cant admit your wrong. If you did implement your thinking skills sometime, you would find that a high level player can also be inexperienced in a particular field. If I haven't even visited say, Tormented Demons even once or killed even one, can I say that I am very experienced in killing them? :wall: [Despite my stats being good enough so that I can't be termed as a "low-level"] Thanks.. Lord Shalaj Learn through experience, the same way every one else does, i dont need things spelt out for me constantly, i enjoy challenges. Which is perfectly fine and I have no problems with the gameplay you choose. The important point is that its optional :- If you don't like the babying , well and good you can choose not to visit the various tutors in RS and also you can turn off your warnings so you can play the game as you wish. But why force your gameplay idea on someone else who might find the idea of extra help and guidance inviting. Thanks.. Lord Shalaj :)
  9. Lord Shalaj
  10. If a person (inexperienced or low-level) dies at GWD with all his good items, most of the times they quit. They feel the time they will waste recovering the items is much better utilised in some other game where they would atleast have more fun. [Or at times they return to the games they used to play before] Thanks.. Lord Shalaj
  11. It doesn't have to be an equip-able item (though most probably it will be). You could have things like Elven Symbol or maybe Al Kharid brooch. Thanks.. Lord Shalaj
  12. Finally, someone with a different point of view :) Thanks.. Lord Shalaj
  13. Which is exactly the main subject of this article, why on earth does RuneScape have to rely on fansites and video broadcasting sites. What happened to the game being self-dependant? This urges players to actually use guides which I don't deem fit. You'll take a LONG time to get Mourning Ends done without a guide. You'll have absolutely no clue. I remember when I was doing the crystals, I had no idea how the crystal even entered the plot and what role did they play and how. Thanks.. Lord Shalaj
  14. Ardougne and surrounding spots :P *One task could involve feeding something in the zoo, or killing it or maybe using Fairy Rings to enter the Unicorn cage. [Medium] *Kill a Dark Beast..would be a nightmare for those under 85 Slayer :D (Can use pies/stew to kill the beast :)) [Hard] *Travel ______ spot in the Underground Pass [Hard] *Grow _______ in your farming patch [Medium/Hard] *Create ________ creature in the Tower of Life. [Medium/Hard] *Steal from _______ stall/person. [Easy/Medium/Hard] *Kill a guard dog (I'm evil :P) [Easy] *Travel from Ardougne to Brimhaven [Easy] *Open the doors to West Ardougne [Medium] *Buy ______ from _______ [Easy] *Smelt ________ in the furnace [Easy/Medium] Rewards could be - ~ Less chances of being caught while stealing (Level 1) ~ Restores Summoning points entirely 3 times a day. (Level 2) ~ Shopkeeper ________ now sells you X amount of _________ for a cheaper price every day (Level 3) Thanks.. Lord Shalaj
  15. The main thing is a Quest Cape. If you have a Quest Cape, then all the Achievement diaries are easy and 500+ songs are already unlocked. (Quests make you travel to some minigames and also rc altars so it covers a lot of the songs). So the diaries and music will always remain below the quests. It wouldn't be a bad option to trim the Quest Cape only if you have completed all the diaries and the songs. I don't suggest a separate cape for the last two. (I don't have the bank space :P) Thanks.. Lord Shalaj
  16. How much ever people do complain to stop the "babying" I still do find first-timers at GWD that have absolutely no clue about what to do. Of course, as Cheefo said above, thats their business and their ignorance and it affects us (the team). Simple question, but no one answered to me..I'll ask again and if I get no replies, I'll assume its being ignored for a strong reason - Do any of you actually go unprepared always to a new dungeon/monster? You may go once or twice on "suicide' trips, but in the end, won't you be asking for the most efficient method? Now, you shouldn't focus on how you want other people to play. (As I mentioned, I don't need precautions for myself) But if some players really need help and nescessary precautions why would you determine in what way they should play? A simple "Beware of poision which can be acquired through various means and drains your HP" when you get members for the first time is not "babying". It isn't showing you how to deal it, just a small warning. Most people prefer knowing everything (and inexperienced players have no clue about fansites) as they don't want their effort wasted by simple ignorance. I seriously don't want Tutorials, just a bit more prominent precautions. Despite reminding this a number of times, I find the same word repeated. I'm going to follow one of the above person's advice and edit the tutorial part out the first post and replace with a prominent warning. And from where did the idea of set-up being shown on KB came, I have no idea as I only said that GWD monsters require different methods and set-ups. For those who prefer to throw yourself out at every new thing (very admirable, I do that most of the times myself ;)) you are free to do so. You have the Doomsayer to prevent any "babying". For those who take a cautious approach, I recommend warnings that have a better impact. No Tutorials #-o ] Thanks.. Lord Shalaj
  17. I have a feeling this "reward score" will be very hard to raise to a level where you can buy the tools. Thanks.. Lord Shalaj
  18. Unknowingly walk your lvl 3 across troll mountain, past trollhiem, past 2 groups of thrower trolls, push a huge boulder, walk through blinding snow that damages you, then climb down a rope into a dungeon?.. #-o Your in the same boat as you were when you were level 3 if you have absolutely no idea about Thrower Trolls etc. Being new in my context meant inexperienced. For example, a first-timer at GWD or DKS. You used the example of GWD with level 3s. How about level 3s and poison effect. Thanks.. Lord Shalaj
  19. We again come back to the tutorial business when I please asked you to voice your opinion on the main context. I know the KB exists..but a new player wouldn't and frankly, he wouldn't care too. I'm sure most players don't read about a game before playing it. I share the same mindset Cheefo, I can do without these warnings because I know exactly what is before me or because I know that I can survive whatever the game throws at me. What will a new player think? I never said the precaution should be in-game! Another topic mentioned in the first few posts was about Customer Support. I will like to throw this innocent question at you, can you please name what kinds of support you need? : ;) [forums, etc.] Also, you must consider than Jagex staff comprises of humans, out of which, the people involved in the Customer Support department had to shift through thousands of mails each day with majority of them being trash. "ur all n0000bzzzzzzz, gimme my acc" or "unban my acc pl0x" can't be considered a good way to utilise the feature we did have. Thanks.. Lord Shalaj
  20. Most of the people here are getting the wrong idea.. I do not want tutorials for killing boss monsters..No. That bit of exciting exploration should be left free as it is now. What I wanted to suggest but worded into a wrong way was that GodWars Dungeon (taking the example) should have a more prominent warning. There is no quest that leads us to it that actually explains what even the hole in the snow is all about. I agree, tutorials for monsters is stupid which I never intended to imply. Moreover, what I really wanted the opinion was on the dependancy of the game. Not that the game needs to produce guides of its own. For example, you'll take weeks to complete Mourning Ends Part II on your own without the help of a guide. And again, without someone's help, you'll never succeed in GWD/Corporeal Beast and now Tormented Demons. Just a simple question, please don't feel I am criticizing your posts in anyway, but how many of you here actually go unprepared each and every time to a monster/area without reading reviews/guides or watching videos? You may have gone once or twice on "suicide missions" just to find experiment a bit, but in the end, you'll be asking for the most efficient method. I don't want to take out any risk from the game, but it pains me to consider if I were an outsider who just started playing the game, I would unknowingly walk in an area which had an interesting pop-up that aroused my interest and caused my death. Furthermore, I simply wouldn't know how to even stop the four types of monster attacking me. I would like if you would share your opinions more on the self-dependancy of RS rather than the tutorial/guide part. :) Thanks.. Lord Shalaj
  21. Runescape is evolving for the better each day, with something new, something exciting always ready for the coming months. It is infact, just what arouses the interest of a player to continue or start playing the game. With a wide variety of options and styles that a player can adopt, this game, no doubt, isn't easy to grasp in the beginning. We have a small phase at the birth of the account where the account goes through a "tutorial" that teaches us about the entire world of RuneScape, but do we learn enough? Unless the creators update the tutorial with each and every big update that can't be explained through small warning pop-ups or sayings... --- This is not what I am proposing. Rather I would like better precautions or warnings. Take the God Wars Dungeon for example. A new player into RuneScape may learn about skilling, killing and merchanting gradually on his own, but complex areas like GWD cannot be explained to a player by himself alone. He definitely needs to ask someone else. And what happens if a player, because of his ego, just goes out with a team to try out the monster without fully understanding the basic concept? He ruins the trip along with the moods of the team members. [Which incidentally, are total strangers to him] The point where updates such as GWD need to be explained person-to-person is where it gets wearisome. It isn't something simple to explain as each of the bosses have their normal attack, special attack, their minions hardness, the best set-up, what techniques to follow [and not to forget there are countless techniques to kill them] and what you will benefit. Without proper knowledge, the player is doomed. Now don't get me wrong, I love explaining these things to my friends. After all, isn't knowledge present so we can share it? It makes some monotonous tasks very easy. But it gets totally irksome when you have to explain to numerous people, some being strangers, at different times. Ignorance about a particular thing is not entirely their fault. Not entirely, but still majority of the blame falls on them. Couldn't GWD get a better warning? A small warning pop-up saying "This area is dangerous" won't help matters... it would actually force the person to go ahead even more than before. I do not want a message popping up saying "Graardor has 2 attacks which deal 35 and 60 damage each, it is suggested you wear full bandos armour etc.", in fact a thing like "This area is not safe for low levels and includes a variety of different monsters that could kill you easily. Recommended you read the Runescape Knowledge Base." Then there are tremendously awesome monsters in the GWD like aviansies and spiritual mages that, once killed properly, are a good source of income. I am also proposing this idea to be optional for all players via DoomSayer. If you don't want it, you shouldn't deal it and affect your style of gameplay. -- New abbreviations developing each day that have to be told to a player otherwise he will remain ignorant or just use them without knowing what they mean. And those players are the ones we call "immature" today. Does ignorance really make them "immature"? There is still the Knowledge Base, but lets face it, a new player is more interested in starting the game than reading about it first. Or rather going into the minutest details. I will say again, I totally enjoy explaining something to the people I know and like, it shows me how much I have progressed. But to encounter ignorant people on random teams spoils my day, or someone telling me "lol" when I ask them to if they have got few Super Strength potions to sell. This game is slowing coming to rely on us, rather than us relying on it.. In my opinion, this is neither good or bad, but I leave the final verdict to you.. Thanks.. Lord Shalaj
  22. The situation is certainly very grave. The operation is still underway by the National Security Guards and above 40 hourse since it begin. I am pretty tensed for my relatives and friends are back there and I can't do much more than being glued to the telivision with horror-struck eyes. Over 130 people dead and around 400 injured..I hope it echoes a far more stronger sentiment then a statistical value. Peace shall prevail. Lord_S
  23. That is nothing when you think about the three Quests that he is a MAJOR part of. The Grand Tree The Eyes of Glouphrie The Path of Glouphrie And since you had to have already done those quests anyway... Ah I see what your saying...He wont be around anymore for ME. But people who haven't done the quest will still see him. Actually, when future quests come out, this could be a problem..or all 3 above quests a specific requirement for WGS? Thanks.. Lord Shalaj
  24. Lets bring forth the 150th quest which has the "deepest storyline ever invented" and is scheduled for next year and will probably end this DragonKin story ;) Thanks.. Lord Shalaj
  25. As I mentioned before, seeing that the Dragonkin history was waiting to be revealed for so many years, Jagex probably won't finish it here. This being the 147th Quest, I think its second/third/final part will release next year which will be our "biggest, toughest quest with the deepest storyline ever attempted" (also quest no. 150 if a few come before it). Just an idea ;) Thanks.. Lord Shalaj
