  1. just out of curiosity, do you mean they should be in a lower or a higher position? Higher, seeing as they are probably one of the best know thrash bands outside of the big 4. for the record, slipknot is not metal, and if it is, so is bullet for my valentine. Pantera? I hope you're joking. What does it matter if they're one of the best known outside of the big 4 (which are painfully mediocre, excluding Slayer [and even they started sucking after 2 albums]). [cabbage], they were hardly thrash metal; more so post-thrash, aka groove metal or whatever. Just listen to Machine Head and Pantera, then compare to thrash metal bands to the likes of Artillery, Rigor Mortis, Ulysses Siren, Coroner and Razor.
  2. Pink Floyd is an acquired taste. You either like long drawn out intros or you don't. It's what most people find particularly bad about Pink Floyd. But I'll agree with you on AC DC. They really get left behind by their contemporary "imitators" (Ash Ra Tempel and whatnot). I always thought of Floyd as a nice gateway band, though; and the Syd stuff as great. TD's Phaedra > DSOTM Oh, there's just so much more. Those two specific boundaries are demonic!
  3. Ha! Fool! Slipknot is the band holding the banner of metal and bringing it to its rightful resting place. Your sarcasm is unwavering! Sshh...he's going with it.
  4. awesome pick ups, especially that tangerine dream album. recently, i've bought: [hide=stuff] [/hide]
  5. Not big into metalcore at all, but, I've heard good things about Converge. although, I apologise if you've heard/listened to them. Looking for some new metal [of any type] atm.
  6. And something that translates to "not metal"? Ha! Fool! Slipknot is the band holding the banner of metal and bringing it to its rightful resting place.
  7. It means you post your own last.fm. D: As for you, I recommend Sir Lord Baltimore or Captain Beyond. Good and heavy prog/rock. edit: Dark Funeral was alright, a bit too much on the norsecore side, I think? Not too sure, needs more listening.
  8. You know the world is going stupid when Slipknot isn't given any recognition. Think of their influence on black, death, doom and power metal.
  9. Atrocious. If he was going for the whole pre-metal thing, he could've done lots better with heavy prog like Sir Lord Baltimore and Captain Beyond.
  10. Klaus Schulze, former member of TD. Last.FM in sig.
  11. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree, although, I cannot find much hints of anger in [early] At The Gates or Burzum. As for Yes being [bleep]ery, I think topographic tales from the ocean is just really [bleep]. I don't mind the song lengths...hell, one of my favourite bands is Tangerine Dream (Zeit is loooong), but, I've never really found substance in Yes.
  12. i'll keep with the fact that few of those bands are worth listening to. most of the -core is pseudo-anger for all i care hell, a few bands in that big list of yours are hardly 'angry' music. it's a damn shame really, it's like listening to Yes, Dream Theater and Steve Vai and saying that all progressive 'whatever' is pure [bleep] with no substance. as for escapism...what does it matter? Escapism can come in many forms, and is present in almost all sorts of entertainment/arts. we don't fear, but just find euphoria in these things.
  13. no wonder, you listened to 1 good band, atheist... what about summoning, or something? metal is much more rooted in escapism than anger.
  14. I guess it's only proper to recommend the other Greek BM behemoth, . http://www.last.fm/user/melganiks
  15. Therion - The Way
  16. What if the lyrics are in some cryptic language or the songs are instrumental? What's the need of having meaning behind the lyrics anyways?
  17. Metal solely focused on anger? Terribly wrong sir. Yes, it seems to encompass most of the extreme metal genres, but by no means is it the only emotion present. Hell, it isn't even the main emotion. Also, I hardly doubt the countless non-extreme metal bands (and doom metal) primarily focus on anger. Before you call something childish, at least understand it. The way you're generalising metal is ignorant, and has nothing to do with opinion. JFAC is deathcore, btw.
  18. Seeing as your into Krautrock, I recommend Cluster. Also, please guys, don't post unless you're going to recommend something to the person above. If you got nothing to rec, just pm the person on how thankful you are, please. Thanks. <3 http://www.last.fm/user/melganiks/
  19. Thanks Nadril, I'll be checking them out this week. Considering your recent post about Rotting Christ, perhaps a good slab of Greek black metal is due? Try ! LAST.FM in sig.
  20. I guess it'd be a nice idea to spread the love and such. Perhaps even open eyes to some new music. Considering some artists/genres really don't get much attention, or some people are just seeking new music. Anyways, post your last.fm's or just a couple of artists that define your taste or artists that are similar to what you want more of. If you're open to anything, just mention so. If you wish to frequent this topic, you could even post reviews of what you were last recommended. http://www.last.fm/user/melganiks That's my last.fm, as for what I'm specifically up for... anything really, although, I'd like something probably enjoy. :P Also, please guys and gals, don't post unless you're going to recommend something to the person above. If you got nothing to rec, just pm the person on how thankful you are, please. Thanks. <3
  21. damn, listening to daudi baldrs is like watching paint dry. xD you're one brave man. Manilla Road - The Riddle Master
  22. try this: You can dance You can jive Havin' the time of your life See that girl Watch that scene Dig In The Dancing Queen speaking of which, i hate mamma mia, someone kill me for ever sneaking into that.
  23. Of course, of course. We must never forget, one needs to learn how to play! But, I feel if you have nothing to play, then why play? All of them are VERY important, but the feel needs to be there. A composition worth listening to. Knowing how to play the music itself! Much like the aforementioned Manilla Road, the very dirty and disorderly feel of the entire Crystal Logic album really benefits it. I couldn't imagine it being played differently. I guess great albums by subpar musicians have really spoiled me. Also, no band is truly overrated. We just like what we like. If the music feels unauthentic and/or unsure of itself then perhaps listening to something else for a while might freshen it up or something else entirely. I really do like Battalions of Fear-era Blind Guardian. Really cheery speed metal. as for something like manilla road, try Legend (US) and the first 3 Fates Warning albums. Really sweet power metal. of course he isn't, he's just popular and was a true innovator. in this case, he had a perfect balance. those lists are bollocks anyways, and lol dream theater is poor imo, fates warning is where its at!
  24. Jimi hendrix isnt over-rated at all, he was incredibly talented. He was very influential, but whenever I hear about him, I hear him being regarded as the "best guitar player of all time" - and they usually mean as far as skill/technicality goes, which definitely isn't true What does it matter? The best guitar player should be able to craft. That's the number one skill in music in general, the way you craft things. Even the most technical of players/bands (Dream Theater, Steve Vai, etc.) fail in this regard.
