  1. Man, there's not a single band I like in that entire poster.
  2. Tangerine Dream - Quichotte, Part One
  3. They were trying too hard to be a "visual kei prog/power/speed metal band". While some of their early stuff is absolutely hilarious, they're really not that good at all and I agree about the 10 minute piano solo.. I like prog, but I've never been that bored in my life. Ever. The only good Japanese metal band that I know of is Concerto Moon. Mlbfan, you're a truly [cabbage] poster. Haha yep, and what do you mean by hilarious? Good fun to listen to or just plain funny? Besides that, I don't know what they were thinking. Not even the myriad of prog bands that 'take it too far' would even do a 10 minute piano solo. Especially in a song that's nearly half and hour. Over 1/3 of the entire [bleep]ing song is a goddamn piano solo. I guess I wouldn't be so disappointed if they weren't so hyped up by people I know. My favourite Japanese metal bands are Sigh and Sabbat. Besides that, I haven't listened to much/heard about besides X Japan.
  4. What's wrong with the old Dark Knight thread?
  5. So it's alright for everyone else, just not black men? A subtle insult to hip-hop! Where have I heard those before?
  6. Ash Ra Tempel - Amboss
  7. Japanophile, I never really saw/use it as an insult. There's anglophiles, scandophiles, italophile and so on. Although I guess others would think otherwise, but hey, that's the fun thing about interpretations.
  8. Tangerine Dream - Rubycon - Part 1
  9. It's amazing. I'd try to find the time myself. Recently bought Heat and a nice TD boxset.
  10. Agreed, even though I do like them. More Japanese overratedness: Dir en grey. Think Linkin Park for the Japanese and weeaboos. They're really horrible and proof that Japan largely fails at making a metal band; sure, there was X Japan in the '80s, but remind me of how good they were? Maximum the Hormone isn't too bad, but they're very, very strange. l'arc~en~ciel aren't too great either.. just boring. Radiohead are pretty overrated. They're basically Coldplay with a few differences. Ugh, tell me about it. X Japan's Art of Life was a painful listen. 10(?) min Piano solo, ffs!
  11. My point is that having hundreds of millions of fans worldwide justifies, to me, that they're putting their talent to use in the correct way. I like metal a lot, Slipknot isn't even one of my favorite bands, but all the metal sub-genres just tend to blur and don't have much substance in my opinion. They're not the catalyst that TOOL or Pink Floyd may be, but they're still selling out massive venues worldwide. Whether or not their music is "easy to digest garbage" is your opinion, but that has nothing to do with their talent. They write songs that are filled with plenty of talent and people can realize that (With, of course, the exception of you and every other person who deems Slipknot as garbage). I guess this post is a monument to how easy it really is to impress people these days, but I knew that the masses had horrible taste. They write melodic and easy to please songs and they have talent! Haha! Yes, why go any further than weakly rehash a proven formula? Let's be as shady as possible and follow each and every trend that comes along! nu-metal isn't popular? well...switch it around and let's become deathcore, the current flavour of the decade! HAHA I GUESS THEY JUST SEEM TO BLUR ALONG WITH EVERY OTHER METAL SUBGENRE. HEHEHEHHEHEHE HAHAHAHAH! No [cabbage] it's my opinion and I stand by it. I can't recognize talent in con men who follow whatever is popular and can't even make a popular and widely used formula unlistenable. They lack uniqueness or the talent to make the common....amazing! QED HAHAHAHEHEHAEHAHEHAHAHAHAHHEAE
  12. Well considering they headline some of the biggest rock festivals and shows across the entire globe, I think they might be capitalizing on their talent, but hey, maybe that's just my misconstrued opinion. It's easier to make easier to digest garbage than anything with substance. Your point?
  13. You can try to make up as many genres as you want to try to half-[wagon] classify Slipknot, but the fact remains that Slipknot has a lot of talented musicians in their band. You might not like their music, stage antics, or how you might claim they wear masks for attention (As if they can't get it from their music. Last time I checked you can't see masks on the radio.), but they are talented. I don't like Dillinger Escape Plan AT ALL (I think their songs really blow actually), but those guys are extremely talented musicians and I can respect that. Deathcore is a widely accepted genre. I didn't make it up. If you prefer something more general, let's call them metalcore! They're simply not metal though (and don't take this as a sign of not wanting a "popular" and "successful" band to intrude my 'metal dome'; there's worse bands in metal today). Too many In Flames-isms and other poppish crap. Also, where did I challenge their musical talent? It's rather lacking, but I simply don't care for musical talent. One of my favourite bands is Burzum, ffs. At the end of the day, who gives a flying [bleep] about antics, or the masks? When I listen to them on the radio...I can interpret the fact that they are [bleep]ing terrible and have no way to use any talent they might have. I have respect for things I don't like. I'm not a fan of Immortal, or Pink Floyd, but I can respect their influence. Slipknot, on the other had, I have no respect for. If you can't capitalise on your talent, then sorry... not worth my respect. PERIOD. QED.
  14. Because they can. And it's just getting old. According to them nu-metal, which isn't even what they are anymore, isn't worthy of any praise. Half-assed deathcore isn't really worthy of praise either.
  15. That's my favourite Blind Guardian era also. The newer stuff reminds me of Symphony X with too much emphasis on intense vocals. A Night at the Opera gives me a headache. It's not that I hate progressive power metal (hell, Symphony X is one of my favourite bands) but there's not enough of the "metal" element in later Blind Guardian works. It's too overdubbed and too symphonic; if I wanted vocals + symphony orchestra I'd go listen to Mahler's 8th or something. Indeed, I could listen to that speed metal stuff all night and perhaps a bit of Imaginations. Besides that, no thanks. I only tend to stay within the 80s of power metal. Nothing too overdone and it's all kick [wagon].
  16. just out of curiosity, do you mean they should be in a lower or a higher position? Higher, seeing as they are probably one of the best know thrash bands outside of the big 4. for the record, slipknot is not metal, and if it is, so is bullet for my valentine. Pantera? I hope you're joking. What does it matter if they're one of the best known outside of the big 4 (which are painfully mediocre, excluding Slayer [and even they started sucking after 2 albums]). [cabbage], they were hardly thrash metal; more so post-thrash, aka groove metal or whatever. Just listen to Machine Head and Pantera, then compare to thrash metal bands to the likes of Artillery, Rigor Mortis, Ulysses Siren, Coroner and Razor. of course the big 4 are going to sound generic today, they pretty much invented the stuff, and everyone else ran with it, logic man! logic! Pantera moved away from Groove/Glam metal in the mid '80's, try listening to Mouth for War, Drag the Waters, or Hollow. Angel Witch was nearly thrash metal. Venom WAS thrash metal. Big 4 didn't invent [cabbage]. They just did well commercially. Good job, you don't know what groove metal is (it's nowhere near related to glam). Also, I'd rather not. I'd prefer listening to Exhorder (the band Pantera copied their style from).
  17. So, movies/video games are other popular forms of entertainment, but who knew they could have great music as well? indeed, many soundtracks come to strike us with their marvel and aweee... Anyways, all Tangerine Dream soundtracks aside: Blade Runner's soundtrack composed by Vangelis is simply stunning. Very dark, cold, but still human at the same time. It really fits well into the film too. Blade Runner Blues Donkey Kong Country 2's soundtrack is also amazing. Great game too, especially with the music. Relaxing, cool and calm. Katamari Damacy's soundtrack is just pure fun. No really, it is. Plus japanese rapping is really street.
  18. You know, your story reminds me of when I was getting into extreme metal. I sorta did the same thing, except with Burzum, etc. xD I'd probably be looking out for more stuff to watch if I wasn't as terribly lazy as I was these days. :/
  19. NO!!! never call anime a cartoon that's just insulting. a cartoon is made for a younger audience while anime is made for a more mature one. What? there's tons of shows all directed at and made for different audiences. some shows are made for adults, kids, etc. plus, you don't even know what a cartoon is.
  20. God created MAN in his own image. Not life. "Man was created in God's image and woman was created in the image of man"
  21. Post Removed ~ Shazarabbit QQ, [bleep]. I'll give you an honest answer from an honest man...like myself. This comes from a view of someone who hasn't seen much but is slowly getting into it a bit. I dunno, cartoons in general are popular. I guess it has some aesthetic appeal to some people? Perhaps it's just all that more intriguing to them! I guess this grants it its popularity over some of the more 'American' cartoons, but...to each their own. People watch it for...entertainment. Painfully obvious...or so I thought. The plots make no sense? Well, that's just a drastic generalisation. Then again, I'm sure a man such as yourself has delightfully read into every plot. Oh, and I'm sure that makes up most of the anime watching populace! Some have their own kinks and stuff, and some don't. In the same way people may find 'Jessica Rabbit' attractive, I'm sure in the same way, some will find an anime character attractive. What does it matter...this weird phenomena isn't solely isolated to anime. Plus, it's best just to ignore the Japanophiles/weeaboos, if you're going to take a stab at that. Why would anyone waste their time with trying to defend it or enlighten you? lol.
  22. Yea Nadril, lots of stuff is like that. This isn't the thread for it...and I hate Opeth. xD Where'd you get the idea (from my sig) that I liked them?
  23. Boring would be an understatement. Then again, I was pretty tired when I saw this.
  24. Discharge. @Nadril: I'm still getting a feel for it. I thought it wouldn't be my thing, but, I'm warming up to it.
