Deftones is pretty sweet and I'm sometimes partial to a bit of System of a Down. Other than that, I'm not really into the genre.

Most overrated band/artist
Like Tool? Who cares if this is all subjective and whatnot? It could be interesting to see who has what opinion. Tool doesn't really attract the types that I'm talking about - but I would daresay that a few of them do start out as Tool fans. Then they discover Last.fm, RateYourMusic and a certain few music blogs and everything kind of kicks off. They're quite pretentious and annoying to be around.

I find I'm the same with Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou. That stuff is so peaceful and relaxing. Also, the Aqua/Aria manga too.

Natural Snow Buildings. Yeah, stop circlejerking. This stuff is hopelessly mediocre. Also, Have a Nice Life and countless other "deep" bands that "intellectuals" seem to enjoy trying to find some hidden meaning out of.

Obama Administration Announces Massive Piracy Crackdown
You aren't alone. First off, I am going to say that piracy is not theft. It's copyright infringement. It doesn't make it any less of an offence; I even think that it should remain as such, even if they reform the law. Ideally, I would be happy with a good compromise between the entertainment industries and the pirates, but both sides have such silly arguments that I just can't see it happening. It's a shame that it has to come down to things like this and the Digital Economy Bill, to say the least. I think this thread is somewhat of a sad reflection on today's society as well. I wonder, just how many of you have actually bought physical copies of albums? I'm not talking about those digital downloads either; there is zero sense of ownership in some music you have bought from iTunes. If you're going to pull the "they're not worth my money" argument, use this terrible hypothetical as something to think about - if you were an independent artist on a small label, how would you feel about people saying that music you put a lot of care, time and attention-to-detail into and performed, mixed and mastered it to the best of your ability, how exactly would you feel if someone told you that your music "isn't worth the money"? Probably pretty damn horrible. Don't get me wrong - I download a lot more than the average person, but I daresay I also buy a lot more than the average person too. That "imminent infringement" stuff is pretty terrible showing though and that is exactly why this won't pass. I just wish we would actually get some co-operation between the two sides of the piracy argument for once.

Real Screamo vs Bad Screamo
RPG: You might like The Ghost Inside - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5BgFbm46-E&feature=related And maybe Genghis Tron, because everyone likes Genghis Tron. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKBdbQVnP38

Real Screamo vs Bad Screamo
Honestly I like both forms of it; in fact I enjoy most of the bands you mentioned quite a lot. There is a lot of more artistic, even pretentious screamo around but good bands from that side are pretty hard to come by as it stands. I agree; I love the really raw form of screamo for exactly the same reasons as you stated. It's also why I enjoy grindcore and crust punk too.

Real Screamo vs Bad Screamo
You do know that screamo can be mellow and proggy as opposed to violent? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1Yffdbg7Wg Swedish screamo is pretty much all like the two bands I posted.

Real Screamo vs Bad Screamo
Did you even listen to it all? It's definitely screamo, especially the last few minutes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7G2hAhqlg-0 Same band, better example.

LaBrie in DT's early albums = incredible. Especially that one album they recorded live in London back in '92 or '93. Then he ate shrimp and ruined himself. I like a good, healthy dose of cheese metal to offset all the more brutal stuff I listen to. I used to be able to listen to power metal constantly (it's really addictive music if you're in the mood) but I haven't been able to do that for almost two years now. I think if you look far enough back in my post history, you'll see Nightwish, Blind Guardian and Sonata Arctica being bands I mentioned almost constantly. How times change.

Well grindcore is pretty niche and I don't expect people to like it. I hated it at first but it's now one of my favourite genres. I mostly posted it here for the people that do enjoy the genre but it's fine that you don't like it. That band in particular is pretty extreme (their debut "album" is just 11 minutes long) though. It's not all like that. Maiden is a NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal) band - largely a precursor to power metal and melodic death metal. If you like them, you should give Pretty Maids and maybe Manilla Road's Crystal Logic album a listen.

Iced Earth is alright. I liked them more a while ago and their first two albums are still good fun to listen to. I don't like Halford's voice either, or Priest at all for that matter. Way too much leather and too many studs. Anyone into djent here? For the unenlightened, djent is a "genre" where the bands focus on double-octave, palm-muted power chords that make - wait for it - a "djent" sound. The riffing is usually done on seven-string or eight-string guitars and features frequent rhythmic displacement and tempo shifts.
