Umm, of you are meaning specifically people in this topic/sub I would say that most can. Can't speak for the general public though as teachers tell me that students have labelled Japan as a Canadian province, the one that I live in.

So currently I have a gaming PC that is slightly older and the graphics card is aging. Wondering whether you guys would suggest building a new PC with all new parts or just upgrade what's needed. Current Specs: CPU: FX-4100 @ 3.8CUz GPU: AMD 6950 Saphire 2GB Ram: 8GB Storage: 256GB sad and 1TB HDD Only big(ish) issue is that they mother board is older so I'd need a new one in order to upgrade the GPU. What I'm currently thinking is new motherboard, case, and GPU while recycling everything else presuming I won't require a new PSU since 8GB of ram is still okay,the CPU is fine (afaik), and the hard drives are still good. Looking for thoughts and opinions on the matter. I do realise I will only be saving $200-300 but money saved is money saved.

That's what I mean, presuming you are replying to me Arceus, schools are spending ridiculous amounts of money on the textbooks and other materials required by the standardized testing that they would be able to spend in different ways but they are forced to purchase them from specific sources driving costs way up. As someone in Grade 12 who could be on the line for $180+ if I lose a textbook that is probably over seven years old I can certainly understand the racket that comes with these materials. As someone who looked at the SAT fees earlier this year, its kind of ridiculous what they charge and I'm thankful that the test isn't a requirement in Canada.

Yeah, but how much funding goes into the massive number of standardized tests and paying to keep that curriculum up? Up in Canada, at least in my province, we had (not sure if we still do) an English test every 3 grades to assess literacy starting in Grade 3 and schools undergo accreditation every few years. Otherwise the only tests/exams that go beyond a single school board are if the province implements a new curriculum province wide such as they recently did with math and they want to gauge the effectiveness. Otherwise of the 12 exams I've written to date I think 4 of them have gone beyond the teacher who taught the course. Maybe this all sounds like how the US does it and I'm arguing a mute point but I really don't see how a barrage of standardized testing with massive pressure put on results helps the education system do anything but become a meat grinder for kids. Let alone how you can say lack of funding is why the system exists when standardized tests are expensive from getting them made up, to sending them out across the state/board, to the extra money spent on having them marked in a secure and non biased way. Sorry if this is rant-y and hopefully this stayed relatively on topic.

It's not just in the States - from what I've heard the UK is even worse.Wow. Most already written thing I've had in school, that I know about, is Math last semester when the teacher was basically just reaching what the book said. Even then he took a couple of days and did different stuff when he felt it would help more. Can't imagine every year just being a push to the next standardized test.

Yeah, I think this trend is starting to change but the issue isn't so much the degrees as it is the fields in which they were earned. Regardless skilled trades are a good idea right now as according to something I read we are going to be short of a lot of them in Canada in a few years due to the baby boomer and subsequent dropping out of workforce and losing that experience.

I'd just finish the tests now since you seem to be pretty far along. Then even if you don't want to fly you've done it and it's there. That is assuming you are far along, thinking over halfway.

Nah, that was just snow that looked bad not actually snow, snow. Went to a motorcycle show today and that was a bust. Terrible compared to other years with a lot less vendors and missing at least 1 notable brand in that Suzuki wasn't there. Found at least a couple of nice bikes but think I'll be sticking to mine for now. Definitely thinking about an FZ-07 when I need to get my next bike though.

Bring food if you want to or are able to. Of in doubt ask whoever invited you. Generally worst comes to worse if you bring something yourself at least you can garuntee you'll like something there. Dress would depend on the context of the invitation as potlucks can happen across many different social settings.
