With your stats, either get in the mining guild and mine a boatload of coal and iron and sell steel bars, buy coal and iron and make steel bars or keep on the ol' gold.

I've always cut my yews at Fally. It's miles faster than the ones below the flax field. I've never given Gnomey a try, though.
