  1. We won't let them develope nukes. If they start, then bad things will happen to North Korea. Which is why Iraq and Vietnam worry me; we have messed up so many foreign policy situations that Im worried no one will be willing to stop a country that is a genuine threat to everyone around them.
  2. North Korea makes me wish we hadnt screwed up Vietnam and Iraq Although it sucks to need military force, Im worried this is going to end up as some type of second Korean war. The country's army is too stable to organize a coup, and if they start developing nukes it becomes a very bad situation.
  3. A large amount of them are islamic extremists(damn cliched term) who want to further their anti Israel goals by denying one of the reasons Israel was created. Then of course there will be some neo nazis and after that just plain idiots. The only group I can see being "legit" are people who think the death numbers are overrated; however, I fail to see the need to fight numerical semantics on something like genocide.
  4. isolated=away from stores/ other places to get supplies The community around the college is tiny; and its connected by highway to a lot of areas. Secondly, there are going to be a lot of supplies at a college campus. Free time+chemical storeroom+chemistry textbooks=lots of useful items.
  5. Oh boy, that's the most ridiculous thing I've ever read, comparing Al-Qaeda to "the CIA". I'm sure the CIA would gladly rip off the head of a reporter, send kids out to die in mine fields and kill gays simply because they're gay. GREAT COMPARISON. Btw, huff post & a blog? It doesn't matter if it's from Huff, the most important part is the document released by the Red Cross. It could be posted for download on a porn site and it would still be relevant. Oh, and for clarification, the thing I said about CIA and Al-Qaeda was meant to be taken in the context of this topic (torture), but apparently the CIA is quite bad from what other people have posted Edit: Page 4 and still no empirical or direct evidence that can confirm torture's effectiveness yeah the CIA has done some fairly awful stuff over the years There is a very simple reason you dont see any evidence of torture working; the CIA doesnt release information on everything, and I dont think they take pride on having to torture people for info. Thats not to say there is a giant pile of information, but its foolish to think we have never gotten anything from waterboarding.
  6. I vote my house in west virginia; probably too far north though. As for west virginia; if anyone cares to look up glenville college its probably an ideal location. College buildings would supply a lot and its pretty isolated if we consider that zombies dont drive.
  7. Although I agree with you that we need to move beyond waterboarding, that statement is entirely subjective. While Rapport building will work with lower level operatives; a key problem lies in what you said, that lower level operatives arent just given information. Any higher ups we capture(Im talking head commanders/people that we know 100% are terrorists/were well known before 9/11) arent going to "betray" the organization they have devoted their life to just because we try to be friendly. Now, we should be using rapport building and other non torture like means on anyone who is low level if we think we can get some useful stuff out of them. When we start talking about higher levels we need to consider less pleasant means. Waterboarding is in my opinion overboard, but methods such as mild sleep deprivation, nutritious but "cardboard" food, and uncomfortable living quarters(within reason) need to be looked into. While we have to avoid becoming worse then what we are fighting; giving up on intelligence operations is never going to be a solution.
  8. Same thing but with pretty much every liquid food product: ketchup, honey, and chocolate syrup come to mind.
  9. Assuming you are speaking from the bible, I disagree. The name escapes me right now but I recall the story of (lazarus?) that was tested by god and the devil together to see if he was a true believer. Took his property, killed family, gave him leprosy and so on to see if he would turn against god. That was Job. Thanks, post fixed On topic, its rather interesting to see this but I wonder how signifigant the find is. We have seen plenty of inbetweens between monkeys and people, the main thing is that is this close enough to the middle to be shocking. Although the slow construction of a timeline is very useful, people are drawn to sensationalism so a good missing link is needed in a way to help win the debate.

  11. Which is exactly why we only use harsh interrogations on people we believe are higher ups and believe to have important information. I think we still need to improve our methods to be more humane, ethical, and such; but its not like we are waterboarding everyone we pick up for the fun of it.
  12. Actually, there is an interesting scientific theory about a flood that covered all or nearly all of the human living area some time in ancient history. I forget specifics but something about a land slide releasing a giant lake into the valley were most humans lived.
  13. another noted advantage to a parking garage is the very sturdy roof structure; although you would have to build some walls to deal with extreme cold, they dont get very hot during the summer and you have a roof to deal with snow/rain.
  14. the timing on that was quite hilarious on topic people that think they shouldnt have to go to school because everything they have to learn has already been figured out.
  15. yes, although any single vote doesnt matter in the grand scheme of things, when you put everyones insignifigance together it adds up.
  16. QFT. Hitler was an amazing orator and an effective politician who did great things and vastly improved the life of the average German. Most people are too obsessed with the Holocaust to pay attention to the "good" things he did for Germany. Meh, they don't teach it in schools. I don't see why the [bleep] not. They decided to do this thing on the Nazi party and such, what was the only focus? The Holocaust. They never even mention anything about anything else really, I doubt the majority of people even know. I sense that a lot of that comes from the fact there main purpose so quickly became the world domination. Something like the know nothing party in america lasted a while as a very nationalistic but relevant party while not commiting genocide so it gets a little better rep.
  17. I swear if half of the scientists involved in this type of thing went after world hunger... On a serious note, these are a rather interesting idea. Even if they dont help someone with quitting at least they are healthier/less unhealthy.
  18. no, to be technical its not a problem because its something that effects every contestant equally; now if there were a judge who only thought blonde woman were attractive it would be a different matter. Secondly, hes not a pervert, just an idiot.
  19. Hitler was nice to his own people, he gave them welfare, houses, food etc... They loved him, they were living "good". That's how he gained his popularity and power. Eventually once he started taking land/countries, he turned on "allies" that helped him, slowly, one by one. It's interesting, you should study it more. We didn't do anything about it, because FDR wanted to keep us out war. Id argue that fdr wanted us in the war due to his policies involving the lend lease program and its succesors, but that is another thread.
  20. I agree with this. I honestly wouldnt mind giving 50% of my earnings to the government in exchange for the security of knowing that all medical bills were free, education (right through to tertiary) was free and I could rely on the government if a family member (or myself) fell ill or pregnant or jobless agreed, the main concern with any government project is getting the proper benefit for the tax cost.
  21. Actually, that is a very good policy to give students that are getting in trouble a second chance. As to the no homework policy, it is a very poor idea. While we should try to enable all students to do well in school, doing it by making school impossible to fail is extremely detrimental.
  22. a lie detector cant work in the sense of gaining information, if you ask someone will there be an attack even if they lie about there not being and we catch it or they say there will be it doesnt help in its prevention. For the record, Im largely defending waterboarding out of the need. While I firmly believe we can find better methods that arent as controversial, I severly dislike the witchhunting of cia operatives. So bloodstain, since I do agree rapport building is rather effective long term, what would you suggest for prisoners it doesnt work on?
  23. if your not joking I choose runescapian and cast fire bolt
  24. In the interest of conseving ammo if I see someone become bitten by a zombie I will snap their necks, sorry, but this way we can stop you from become a zombie, as this way you will be dead before you are zombified Actually, snapping the neck will not stop them from reanimating, as the virus is already in their bloodstream, and neck-snapping is not immediate death. What about throat slitting? Spinal Cord is still intact, allowing signals with the brain, so it will still survive as long as you kill the person early enough into the infection they wont reanimate.
  25. incorrect, use of the integer I or J in physics allows the root of a negative number. the actual mistake is the belief that the root of an entire fraction is the same as the root of the nominator and denominator, this is infact FALSE fo all all numbers belonging to the set of real numbers. to be technical, no number can be written that is the square root of a negative number, we use things such as i to allow work that involves such "complex" numbers.
