  1. We're defining words differently. I'm specifically referring to political correctness that denotes 'not offending... anyone' - whilst you can be civil, reasonable, and respectful of others - irrational people would still be offended by a dissenting opinion on the more taboo subjects which I love discussing. I don't see what's wrong with calling someone homosexual, gay, white, black, poor, fat, etc. in a purely descriptive context. Why people expect the sugar-coated euphemistic language I don't know.
  2. Is it allowed for users to post fetish material here?
  3. You haven't told us the necessary preconditions to make that judgement - do we know prior to attending the workplace? EDIT - Oh, and I'll agree with the points made by the posts below. The immune systems of those with AIDs aren't as greatly compromised as you'd suggest, if they're fit to work.
  4. I've recently bought a few books from ebay (I don't quite like amazon - new books are often listed at rather high prices) Freakonomics: A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything SuperFreakonomics: Global Cooling, Patriotic Prostitutes, and Why Suicide Bombers Should Buy Life Insurance Predictably Irrational: The Hidden Forces that Shape Our Decisions The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking Does anyone have any book recommendations based on my preferences? I seem to be fascinated by deeply philosophical/psychological/economical books, mainly.
  5. If it hasn't been mentioned before - political correctness. Why shouldn't we be allowed to offend if we're civil, respectful, and reasonable?
  6. I didn't - I just pulled a flat 'what.'

I must be referring to old times then. Don't mind me. Why the police-force?
  8. Banned for allowing him to be a pain in your side.
  9. The sparkle/glow in the eyes of someone when you perform random acts of kindness, like so: [hide=It may be inappropriate for minors][/hide] Other people's failures when you've forewarned them about their inane decisions/actions.

Given your position as a law-student, is his case relevant to your work?
  11. I don't see the relevance - please explain.
  12. Note the word 'probably'. It's indicative of likelihood.
  13. It's a judgement based on the fact that discrimination/hate against atheists are so prevalent. There are so many cases of it that it's not too far-fetched to postulate that those who live in the United States are more likely to be a 'victim' of some form of persecution. [hide][/hide]
  14. The contrast between the US and the UK is rather amazing. It's deemed relatively normal to be an atheist here, whereas over in the US, you'd probably get persecuted for being who you are. This post along with your username is so ridiculously laughable. The username was in reference to supernatural assumptions and such. It may be perceived as ironic, but I was speaking in a somewhat general context describing how public hate of atheists are much more pronounced than of the UK - not legal persecution. It's poorly worded, I'll admit. Why do you feel the constant need to attempt to berate me? Is there any good reason for it? You've already done this on another thread. On topic: Lurkers who contribute nothing.
  15. The contrast between the US and the UK is rather amazing. It's deemed relatively normal to be an atheist here, whereas over in the US, you'd probably get persecuted for being who you are. It annoys me when I don't receive responses to queries in customer-support related services. I'm your client, stop ignoring me dammit.
  16. I'm unsure why it appears to be so difficult to simply sit back and make observations of potential partners - it should be easy to decipher whether someone has a brash personality or whether they're prone to melodrama. I honestly do wonder - how did you not know? I don't personally interact with or approach drama-queens often, unless it's in a very satirical way. I think you'll probably regret hooking up with her if you do - my personal advice would be to stay clear.

College is cheaper than jails, and books are cheaper than bombs. It's a nice sentiment, the war on drugs, but they're implementing it wrong. I think this discussion should be redirected here though: http://forum.tip.it/topic/291319-drinkingdrugs/page__st__680
  18. The lack of forum activity. Some of the more popular threads have barely moved in 5 hours on this subforum - why?!

I think the Universities have been taking it easy this year - afterall, there has been an 8.7% in applications as a result of the rise in fees. I was honestly surprised when I received my first choice - the personal statement was written extremely hastily, and its coherence were questionable. I've spent a lot of time out of the city today. :/
  20. Is it worth attending school to realise that you're actually too ill to be there, therefore you sign out?
  21. What if you derive happiness/pleasure from other people's misfortunes of catching the illness from yourself?
  22. I'd consult with the employer. If the illness is paralyzing, e.g. influenza, then there's no good reason to work at that state. If the illness is a common cold, I'd seek advice. I usually turn up to school whilst sick. I'll just work at a reduced rate, as you've highlighted in your OP. Oh, and the schadenfreude in me doesn't mind other people catching an illness because of me - especially if the school has stringent policies on attendance. It may be deemed as bothering by the book, though.

I'm debating with myself on how I feel about this: http://uk.lifestyle.yahoo.com/us-man-has-heart-attack-while-eating--triple-bypass-burger--at-the-heart-attack-grill.html Oh, and I've changed my display name. I might change it again later, but this seems decent.
  24. I've edited the original post.

It wasn't tipit that changed you. It was yourself. It just took a break to realise it.
