  1. I feel this video is relevant. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9HRLvfbauA
  2. I believe the MTK deducts the amount of money by the amount of approval you have, so if you have no approval, you will get no produce.
  3. I can spot multiple fallacies in this alone. A - There are many other alternative methods in which children could gain confidence, not just through musicals and sporting activities. (Alternative cause) B - Not being confident enough will not necessarily mean that children will regret 'it' in later life (False dilemma) C - It is difficult to justify the consequence from the initial reasoning. (Slippery slope) Please refrain from posting fallacious arguments. The guy above has summed up what I meant. I'm not saying that sport or musical ability is necessary nor is confidence. However I am saying that for a child that lacks the confidence but could enjoy the sport a great deal it is important to make them try - obviously you don't continue to force them to do it if they don't enjoy it. I wasn't talking about not being confident being the thing children regret rather not having tried the activity. I realise there are many other alternatives and you could take the same approach to them with these. I apologize - I must have interpreted it wrong.

  5. I'd completely agree with that - It seems as though most parents may be either too harsh or too lax, and it's quite rare that parents would find the correct balance. How would you deal with children who are undisciplined though? Should smacking be considered acceptable for the deterrence effect, or would it be 'wrong' to do so? One of the first things I'd get my children to learn (should I have any) would be Critical Thinking - The ability to think logically and rationally is essential for many things, such as decision making. Also, should it be the child's decision for things like sports/hobbies/interests, or should parents make it more mandatory?
  6. It seems as though people have different ideas of how to parent. Here's a question for you: Should you have children, would you prohibit their viewing of pornography until the legal age of 18? Why or why not? The question is more about the ethics of it, less on the legality

If you were to have children, how would you raise them? I think raising children well is one of the most important aspects for their livelihoods. It shapes people into who they are, and each of us is unique. What do you think constitutes good parenting? It is no doubt that every parent should have their child's best interests in mind when making life-changing decisions, such as their education and social life management, but when does parenting become 'too much'? I've left the questions pretty broad so it would be possible to discuss common issues in today's culture, such as: online gaming, social networking, swearing, education, discipline, etc. So, Tip.It, what do you think? EDIT - What's a good thread without a good post?
  8. Should one of the company's objectives be that they ought to be more vocal and open with the community, moderating and posting on boards like these would be very effective in doing so. In contrast to Q&A's/Jmod events, it would allow Jmods to actually listen to their players' opinions in a medium that isn't spammed extensively and potentially game-changing discussions could take place. The money problem could be solved by funding through advertising, although it may be insufficient thus an alternative solution would have to be made should the idea be considered. Frankly, it's an insane idea. No way could we just buy a JMod. Even if every page on the site was plastered with 5 banners and 10 popups I doubt a site could make enough to hire a person on that basis. I will agree that the idea is rather peculiar, but it may be worth considering nonetheless. If the money problem could be resolved, what's stopping Jmods from posting and moderating these boards?

  10. This, basically. That question has no place here (directed at our moderation at least). That's true. Perhaps there should be a thread made about it, and the concept ties in with Racheya's recent Times article "I don't care" Has Tip.It ever considered hiring a Jmod to moderate the boards? The idea is likely to be impractical, but it could provide some insight into the workings of JaGex...
  11. Just to clarify; The question I proposed should have been 'Should they disallow AHK functions that follow 12:12 or any other combination that has equal inputs and outputs?'
  12. The question now would be; 'Should they?'

  15. Bigoted, arrogant and domineering people.
  16. It would have been easier if you simply said that instead of making an analogy that simply made little sense, and didn't seem relevant at all. Although common knowledge is good to some extent - I would agree that just because everyone believes something, it doesn't make it true. In the case of RuneScape, many claims are more factual as opposed to being preference, thus it is less disputable and more easily verified, ie; DPS figures. It does seem to be a shame that well justified claims should still be challenged on the basis that it's "not extensive enough," but that's another story altogether. I would be unable to offer a method to maintain the upkeep of the hypothetical sticky should it be made. I believe it isn't necessarily going to be called a 'common knowledge' sticky if it were to exist, but it would be a place where well accepted ideas and concepts are going to be verified should players challenge these ideas or concepts. Should new updates cause a dispute about these things - players would have to prove their claim to be correct should they want to be taken seriously. I don't think a sticky would be very practical though, which may be the major drawback of the suggestion. What do you think?
  17. I can agree with that.
  18. These arguments and analogies are completely irrelevant to the topic at hand - DPS figures of RuneScape weapons is hardly a disputable claim, where it's a matter of simply comparing numbers, whereas the cleanliness of hands would depend on whether the aforementioned doctor had touched infectious surfaces, and the dangers associated would depend on the conditions at the time of the incident. Please don't make this a straw man argument and stay on topic. It is very possible for us to verify information on the DPS figures, but doing so tends to derail topics into little more than banter over a trivial subject. I still don't see why we can't have a sticky which encompasses all 'common knowledge' related links on the H&A and metagaming boards.
  19. Err... Not quite sure what that's supposed to mean. DX "Oh my god, I want you so bad."
  20. I'm not sure what you're asking... The burden of proof when people make absurd claims is what I'm specifically referring to. Does that help? No, I was wondering if you could give me a specific example. Are you talking about the moderation, or just general posters, or what? "Chaotic Crossbow with Rigour is faster dps than a Chaotic Rapier with Turmoil" "No it's not." "Prove that it's not" I don't see a problem with that...surely anyone making a statement should be obligated to prove it if they want to be taken seriously. It's common sense. I don't see why we should need to prove every statement we make, should the claim be plausible. This is why we're suggesting that only active RS players who are knowledgeable should be the people moderating H&A/meta-gaming, as these kinds of disputes are never resolved by someone who's un-knowledgeable about RS. Also, the burden of proof should always be for whoever makes the dubious claim, not for the other party to disprove the said claim.
