The Obligatory Ice Hockey Thread
And the Wings' home win streak is snapped by Vancouver at 23. Both teams looked like serious contenders for the cup this year, though Vancouver's third goal came from a questionable icing call. Still not a bad outcome for being without Datsyuk, though.

Great way for the Wings to get 23 home wins in a row. Though, the San Jose Earthquakes didn't look impressive at all today.

Same here, though 20 minutes from my house isn't really a road trip .

I don't really care what's a logical fallacy and what isn't. I apologize that I haven't studied debate and argument intricately, but it is actually ridiculous to assume the average person on the fan site of a video game would know this. To avoid getting into a pointless off-topic debate of semantics, I will just clarify that I drew that assumption from your previous post as a whole. As for 1 and 2 (I grouped the arguments together under 1 mostly), we apparently agree that offensive is subjective. All I'm saying is that a censor doesn't necessarily stop what may be considered offensive - it only censors swear words and other related terms (racism, etc.). Basically, we agree for different reasons, so I'll leave it at that... As for 3, I would love to know the myriad of logical fallacies I used, but, alas, I don't speak Latin. I'll assume you're trying to say I'm trying to rally people toward my side (?) by making your claim sound ridiculous. Yes, it's wonderufl that this is the internet and all, but spam is still an issue. Just because I used a real world analogy doesn't make your claim any more ridiculous than it originally was or was not. As for 4, that actually happened and, frankly, it's really creepy. Go visit World 31 Rimmington on a Friday night and you'll see that this sort of in-game behavior isn't rare. Whether or not it's as severe as the case in the article doesn't matter. I don't want this game to become some sort of haven for pedophiles. And, no, that's not a slippery slope. That is minimizing a type 1 statistical error where the consequences of a type 1 error far exceed the consequences of a type 2 error. If we fail to reject my H0 when H0 is actually false, the only consequence is more strictly enforcing a rule that's already in place (whereas the alternative would be more cases like the article). That's hardly a consequence at all and not that difficult or expensive to implement. I apologize in advance if I sounded rude in my post, but that wasn't the tone I was aiming for.

Okay. Offensive is subjective. If you believe everyone is as hard to offend at you, you are sadly mistaken. Maybe a person does swear a lot, so they have the censor off. Well, that doesn't filter, say, the N word, which they may find offensive. Also, offensive language isn't limited to swearing. For instance, a player approached my brother after losing a duel and told my brother, "I hope your family burns at Christmas dinner." THAT is offensive and he didn't even have to swear. Again, offensive is subjective. If someone's name is "HAHA9-11," THAT is offensive to the family of victims and many sensitive Americans. That needs to be taken care of, regardless of whether some seasoned veterans of the internet are immune to all things offensive or not. Welcome to the internet? So if a problem exists, we should just ignore it because it's frequent? That's great problem solving. In fact, we should apply it to crime in the real world. People steal, but we shouldn't do anything about it because it happens. Now the if justification for that mentality were that I couldn't come up with a solution for it, I would laugh because I'm not a sociologist and therefore not my job. Similarly, it's not the author's responsibility to think of a solution for Jagex. I don't know, this? You can't assume everyone is as intelligent/responsible as you. THAT is a flawed premise that I know anyone here can attest to. If you honestly expect an adolescent girl whose parents are rarely around to have the same intelligence as a college student, that's ridiculous. I agree with you here that accounts should be linked, but it's a problem if a person can be playing on two accounts at the same time. That could give someone an unfair advantage in the Wilderness, for instance. I don't personally have a problem with being AFK, because it can only be done for, what, 5 minutes? As long as they're not using an auto clicker or a bot, I don't really care.

Possibility of a members free trial in the coming months
I would expect there to be a free trial around May or June. I can't see Jagex allowing a free trial during the bonus xp weekend in March or the Easter event in April.

Black history month
I want an Asian History Month. How about that Chinese_Exclusion_Act of 1880 that prevented my great-grandparents from going east of Hawaii until 1943? No more than 105 new Chinese immigrants were allowed in until 1965 and an apology wasn't issued until 2011. What about the Japanese internment camps? The victims' homes were taken away, their possessions were sold, and they had to live miserable lives in the camps, not to be barely reimbursed until the 90s. And let's not forget the Chinese immigrants who built the western half of the transcontinental railroad (the dangerous part through the Rocky Mountains). Certainly there's enough to warrant our own month, right? Point being, there should be no months dedicated to individual races. It's all part of one unit - American history. You could go on and on about what it would be like today if there had been no blacks, or no Jews, or no Asians, or any other race. Well no kidding it would be different. Intelligence and innovation belong to no one race, but rather to the hard working and the dedicated.

I figured Team Chara would win, but I had no idea the game would be that close. IMO, the scoreboard doesn't reflect how close the game really was. In other news, the 2013 Winter Classic between the Wings and the Leafs at the Big House is allegedly confirmed to be final (final announcement to come in February).

Yeah, I won't be watching this Super Bowl. Two lousy teams I don't care for... The Giants will probably pull it off, though, because NE has no defense.

I'm a senior in high school right now and I'd like to have the chance to go to prom this year. If it's in mid-May, when is a good time to ask someone without being "too soon" while still giving her a chance to pick out a dress and whatnot?

I was kind of hoping we'd be playing the Sharks, but it's nice to see a Canadian team in the Winter Classic. I was also expecting the game to be held at Comerica Park because Mike Ilitch owns the Red Wings and the Tigers. Now that it's at the Big House, they'll probably want to break another attendance record. If that makes the tickets fairly cheap, I'll be going.

Bachmann pulls out of race
Good news. I was shocked by Rick Santorum's position, though. I haven't heard much about him anywhere outside of Comedy Central. I think I'll end up voting for Mitt Romney (as he seems like the only sane Republican candidate) in the Michigan Primary, but I haven't decided for the general election yet. Obama finally developed a leadership roll and actually began fulfilling some campaign promises in 2011, so I was impressed by that. However, I think my views match closer to Romeny's with the exception of a few social issues (which I'm more apathetic about anyway). I'll wait to see how things play out later this year before making my decision, I suppose.

NO, GB, or PIT probably. NO would be my top choice, though.

I grouped all the similar genres together. There's a lot of gray area between the similar ones. For instance, take bands like Breaking Benjamin, System of a Down, and Disturbed. Some would consider them metal and others would consider them hard rock. Obviously, they aren't the same, but appeal to similar audiences for the most part. Granted, a rock band like Radiohead probably wouldn't appeal to someone who listens to death metal, but still.- The American Football thread
I had high hopes of beating the Cowboys or the Giants in the first round, but now the Lions will be one and done <_<. At least we made it to the playoffs after all those years of struggling, though. It's a good sign of things to come if we can somehow manage to get Calvin Johnson to resign with us. All of our best players are pretty young so I look forward to the future seasons. Maybe we'll manage to win the NFC North some time in the future. Oh well, congrats to the Packers for sweeping the NFC North. At least the Lions only managed to sweep the AFC West... EDIT: Wow what an amazing ending to that Georgia/Michigan State game. MSU won it in triple overtime with a blocked field goal. Great finish to that season. - Tip.It Times - 1st January 2012
