Ranging steels
Yep. I just had them as a Slayer task. I did half by melee and half ranging. For ranging I used black d'hide, rune crossbow and broad bolts with Slayer helm and ranging potion. Slower than melee but not prohibitively so, and not difficult at all. One advantage of melee/mage is you hit the dragon you want, while with melee occasionally an iron will attack you before you get to the steel you're after, which is a bit of a hassle.

What does 'Bank Sale!' mean?
So basically it's "I want to sell some stuff" and it could be anything - high or low quality, one item or dozens?

What does 'Bank Sale!' mean?
I often see someone in the Grand Exchange yelling out 'Bank Sale!' and I don't know what it means. Can someone please enlighten me?

Some combat related/money issues
Black Demons are pretty good for charms, so are Skeletal Wyverns. Best way of making money is probably either collecting herbs from Chaos Druids or bones from Green Dragons. If you luck on a great drop from higher dragons of course you'll male a lot more, but you might kill 1,000 with no good drops. Although if you've got 42m already I don't know what you're asking for. I don't go to McDonald's.

What to do with...
By barrage summoning he means barraging rock lobsters for crimson charms. http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Rock_lobster Thanks very much.

What to do with...
Train crafting? Buy barrows gear? Buy each godsword in turn to compare? Get dragon claws just to use the special on goblins? There's so much in the game that without knowing your stats and any preferences (fighter, skiller, pure) it's hard to know if a suggestion is any use, or if you've already done it or got it. Can someone tell me what it means to 'barrage summoning'?

Magic against Kalphites?
My Slayer task is Kalphites, which I usually melee quite quickly. I've used a dwarf cannon in the past too. But I've never maged them and I just realised I haven't maged anything for quite a while, so I'd like to have a go. Any suggestions for maging Kalphites? What spell/s, what armour?

A question of etiquette
The problem is you're focusing on the things in life that don't really matter. When I was a kid I had hopes and dreams. We all did. But over time, the daily grind gets in the way and you miss the things that really matter, even though they are right in front of you, staring you in the face. I think the next time you should ask yourself "Am I on the right track here?". I don't mean to be rude but people like you I really pity. So maybe you could use the few brain cells you have and take advantage of the knowledge I have given you now. Good luck. ROTFL

True, they're only lvl 13 and something like 20 hp, so we were each taking three hits at most to make a kill. We were both getting 'Someone else is already attacking that' often, but equally we could immediately click on another as soon as we got that message. For me the test is, did it stop me or him making money? I made over 300k - I think it was over 320k - in the hour. He was attacking faster than me, so he should have made about the same, allowing a little variation for luck in picking up dwarf weeds and ranarrs. As far as I know we both made the amount of coins I'd expect to make if there was no-one else there. When I'm on my own there I can't kill them and pick up the drops any faster than I was then - I tested and my average doing it alone is just over 300k. You might kill four in a row, but picking up the drops and rejecting worthless stuff still takes time so all four have respawned by the time you've done that. I don't know on what basis you doubt my honesty about how this guy went to ignore. TBH, that's pretty rude of you. I went off to the bank to deposit my first load, when I came back and was picking the lock he said 'Leave me alone'. When I went in and started killing druids he said 'Please leave me alone'. When I didn't react he said 'I'm putting you on my ignore list'. The three statements were all within one minute. Doubt as much as you like, that's what happened and I can't imagine why I'd make it up.

Do you mean you're actually aware of someone with a name like Dragon Sam being banned, or just guessing?

A question of etiquette
Okay, so I wanted to get money, so i went off to that chaos druid tower just north of Ardougne. I think there are four or five druids spawning there continually, and giving all herbs except perhaps snapdragons, so it's an easy place to pick up two or three hundred thousand coins an hour. When I got there another player was already inside doing the same. I didn't think that was a problem; plenty to go around. But when I came back after my first bank run to deposit the herbs I'd collected this other player repeatedly said 'Please leave me alone' and then 'I have you on my ignore list'. (NB My account is QuickChat only). When he said 'I have you on my ignore list' I said 'Okay' - like, I really don't mind. But evidently this guy thought it was really mean of me to come along and try to make money in an area where he was already doing the same. I found this pretty surprising. I mean, throughout my year and a bit of playing I've had people jump my mining spot, for instance. It just seems it's the way of the game that people are sometimes competing for the same resources. But what seemed odder was that he said it about a location where two people can easily collect money together and still both get 300K an hour; it isn't like my being there was really stopping him do what he wanted. Even though this other guy was lvl93, and so quite a bit lower than me, he had Void Knight on and was using throwing knives, where I had Karil's and was using the bow with bolt-racks. That is, he was attacking faster than me, so if he did think of it in terms of competition, he'd get the kill first every time. Was he just oversensitive, or was it really bad form for me to jump in?

How much can I give someone, and how?

How much can I give someone, and how?
Hi all, I've been playing as a member for over a year and my nephew has been playing as a member for a few months. I've got a lot more money than him, better equipment etc. I want to give him some money and equipment, but don't know how we should do this. Using trade seems very limited - he can only receive small amounts and I'd like to give him 50K or 100K. Can I just drop coins so he can pick them up, and if so is there a limit? What about equipment? TIA

Worst Slayer Tasks
Yep, I didn't mind Steel Dragons so much until I had a task of 70+ of them and it took me three trips ...

Worst Slayer Tasks
It looks like I can do Skeletal Wyverns by praying Chivalry and eating monkfish, although it's slow going. Thanks for the advice on Warped Terrorbirds, they seem to be one of the monsters that are good once you know how.

The Case for Slayer
Well, I'm in the camp that likes Slayer. I enjoy a certain amount of brainless play, so I find it enjoyably simple to be told what to do and run off and get whatever number of whatever beastie. I like the Slayer helm just because I think it looks kewl. I like broad bolts because they are good ammo for Ranging. I like the Slayer ring because it's handy transport. I don't like how slowly my xp for Slayer is now accumulating, and I'm only at 77, but I still like how my combat stats keep topping up while I do Slayer tasks. I like how occasional Slayer tasks get me to remember Range and Mage so I still advance them, which I would probably do more slowly without the prompting. I like how occasional Slayer tasks mean boosts to various other tasks, eg Waterfiends boost crimson charms for Summoning or Aberrant Spectres boost herbs for Herbology or dragons give me bones for Prayer. I don't agree with those who argue that Slayer is 'the best way' of advancing xp in combat skills, or 'the fastest way' of getting money from drops or resources for other skills. I think there are faster better ways to make money, collect herbs or increase melee xp than just being a servant to your local Slayer master. Whether or not you could figure out for yourself better ways to get the same combined result as Slayer tasks I'm not sure - it would probably take a bit of careful research, but I expect it would work. BUT ... Doing Slayer tasks will inevitably lead to substantial combat xp, money, herbs, charms, bones etc, without having to plan or think much. That's what I like, the simplicity. Almost every Slayer task I do has a secondary gain; I do the task and advance Slayer a little but also have a bunch of herbs or bones or gold or xp or whatever at the end. And the last thing I like about Slayer is that by doing tasks I learn more about the game - locations, monsters, methods. I don't have time to explore a lot and I don't have the intellectual space to remember all the monsters, so Slayer tasks send me to places I might not get around to for months otherwise, to fight monsters I might not have found even then. I'd completely forgotten about Skeletal Wyverns until I got them as a task this evening - I bet I wouldn't have thought of going back to the ice caves and through that weird other door for months if I hadn't got the task.

Which quest items to keep?
Hi, Sorry if this has already been covered, I did a search for "quest items". Basically, my bank is full and the largest section is my quest items - keys, books, bits of stone, tickets, scraps of paper, maps or instructions, all those individual items that you need as you go along in a quest. My question is, how do you judge which to throw away? All of them? All except weapons, or magically useful ... or what?

Worst Slayer Tasks
I have permanently blocked only one beastie so far: Hellhounds. Umm, what is the point of them? They drop gold charms and little else, they're usually crowded, they don't have a good xp ratio. I have skipped Black Demons when I've just had too many of them in a run. I would skip Kalphites for the same reason, although with cannon and 500 cannonballs supporting melee I can knock off 150+ in about 45 mins while still collecting all coins and alching every drop above steel scimitar. The collecting and alching make the task a bit less of a grind, and mean I'll get 50,000 gp to offset the cost of the cannonballs. I've only had one Steel Dragons task and had no trouble - not too crowded, good drops, came out around 200,000 gp ahead. I was relaxed and just waited for one to respawn over and over, though; I know if you try to run around that cave to hunt them you'll get diverted by the Iron Dragons, so that factors in. I haven't tried Warped Terrorbirds or Tortoises yet. I'm about to try Skeletal Wyverns :)

Underrated Items
I just had a go at Aberrant Spectres. Used abyssal whip most of the time, but tried Torag's Hammers for a lark and to compare. I only did five for each, but Torag's averaged 12 hits to kill, and the whip averaged 13.8. So the damage might balance up the difference in speed.

Do YOU know what to do when...
Have you tried using the net in China recently? If what you say doesn't apply for a quarter of the world's population, and it doesn't, then your position is far from intellectually watertight. There is law here. What's more, along with the pedophiles undoubtedly reading these forums, there will be one or two LEOs dropping by every once in a while. People have deluded themselves about the libertine possibilities of every form of communication, from scratching marks on clay tablets through printing pamphlets to phoning, photocopying, faxing, and right up to the net and cell phones. Don't be gullible. The net is not, never was and never will be free from rules and surveillance. What do you expect? It was invented by the defence department, not a bunch of hippies.

Do YOU know what to do when...
It looks like most people do know 'what to do' - report it. What most don't know is 'how to do it'. I think starting with Google isn't a bad idea, and nor is phoning your local police. Yes, it's going to take more than a couple of minutes. After all, whoever you report it to has to make sure you're not hoaxing or trying to get someone into trouble out of malice. Also, most police forces around the world don't have time to be up to date with the internet, so sometimes it'll take them time to find someone who understands what you're saying if it's internet stuff. No, pedophiles are not quite everywhere, as in one behind every tree. There just aren't very many people with that sort of weirdness, so it isn't like there are hordes of them. But they're persistent and smart enough to lure kids away from safety and will try to hang out where kids hang out, including in cyberspace, so you're right to think they could be here. I think there would definitely be a few reading these forums, and a few who are playing RS and are members. You have to make caution a high priority and not trust too easily, but at the same time remember that 99.9% of people you encounter will be safe enough if you stick to the obvious guidelines: don't give out your real name or address, for example. And be very careful what you say about emotional and sexual personal stuff. Just remember that you need to have a line over which others should not cross. I'm one of the relatively few players who's over 40. I set up an RS account to play with my nephew, who liked the look of it when we went searching for games to play. He's 7 - probably too young to work everything out on his own, but old enough to do most stuff. He learns a lot of maths and spelling and reading and problem solving while playing RS. We play together on weekends and I do grind work on my own to level up during the week. You can imagine how I feel about this issue and similar. There's no way I can completely convey my worries to him, and I wouldn't really want to in that he should be able to think of the world as fairly safe. But I can still teach him basic rules about trust and personal safety, so I do.
