Kaida23's Adventures of a Big Damn (F2P) Hero!
Thanks Jaffy! It's always good to hear from someone who's made the journey before me. :) Things have been pretty busy here the past week. We've had some friends and their 3 year old daughter move to the area and they're going to be living with us for a few months until they can get settled and save up enough for a place of their own. We've spent a lot of time lately sitting on the back porch chatting and just generally being sociable, which I'll admit is a nice change of pace from sitting on the couch all night watching TV and playing games on my laptop. However, I was able to get on for a bit tonight and get this: [spoiler=Duellist Cap Tier 4] I r pro nao, rite? :^_^: I also got a bit of mining in, and now have 480k xp left to go until level 98. Slowly but surely, brothers and sisters. Slowly but surely.

I miss the old chat window with the ragged edges. I always liked how it looked like some old parchment or something.

F2P's Fastest Large Floor (Dungeoneering)
 20k xp in less than seven and a half minutes? You, sir, are a F2P god. So when do you ascend to the heavens and leave all us little people behind? ;-)

Canada Post on Strike
I'm not asking them to give up their rights to protest, strike or try and coerce more money out of their employers, but the public service unions in this country have been doing this with alarming regularity of late. That's what I'm getting fed up with. I suppose at the end of the day, as the song says, I'm just a lonely little petunia in an onion patch and all I do is cry all day.

I agree. This was most likely a concession on JaGex's part to get GameStop US to carry their cards. It's just too bad that a game that has long kept everyone on an even footing with regards to the availability of items has decided to start offering promotion-only items. They will. Kamykazee has a very descriptive style of storytelling.

Canada Post on Strike
I realize that it's not ironic, that's why I said "kind of", but think about it: tax revenues pay their salaries for these people who then give part of that money back as income tax; the circle just goes around and around (perhaps humorous might have been a better word). I'm not suggesting that public employees shouldn't pay taxes, but I am getting fed up with the mismanagement of the tax money that pays their salaries. I doubt that even most government officials understand basic tax principals. If they did, they would certainly be better at managing how tax revenues are spent. When did I say that the corruption only exists at the local level? I was merely commenting on the Ottawa City Council in particular. Since you brought up private corporations though, it's true that we can't vote out the CEO's but if a company completely mismanages it's finances it eventually runs out of money; the same cannot be said about governments that seem to constantly be running budget deficits while giving no consideration for cutting back on superfluous programs to try and curb spending but simply resort to raising taxes to try and make up for the shortfall. As for dealing with the problem democratically, Canada doesn't have recall legislation so we are stuck with which ever politicians do the best job of blowing smoke up our backsides until the next election at which point the sitting government simply rolls out a round of minor "refunds" or other such nonsense (the current provincial government of Ontario is debating relaxing laws on public alcohol consumption to hide the great unwashed of this province to the fact that they've completely mismanaged us for the last 4 years) to cloud the voters minds long enough to get voted back in. Really, it's a result of our own ignorance in the very political system that we're (over)paying for. It's not taught properly in the schools and most people don't care about politics (as evidenced by continually declining voter turn out). They say people get the government they deserve, and I guess that's true but it doesn't stop the small majority of us who do care from tilting at our proverbial windmills to try and change things.

Mining and banking
If its just a deposit box you wouldnt be able to access your entire bank, just move stuff from your inv to your bank That's what I mean. If you're in the mining guild you'll most likely be banking at Fally East bank so you can withdraw urns every trip, but if you're at the resource dungeon or the coal trucks the space taken up by the urns is not worth the extra time it takes to deposit every few owes mined. I've been using Mining urns (the highest level F2P has) and banking iron at the Dwarven Mine resource dungeon deposit box. With 10 urns (the max you can have full at any one time) in my inv it really doesn't slow things down. It takes about 30 minutes to fill them, and then I just send them away and run to the bank for more. The 3250xp 10 urns give more than makes up for the time to go to the bank.

Exactly. Where do these people think the government gets the money for these ridiculous salaries? Magic faeries? The more money the government pays out, the more it has to take in, so the higher our taxes go -- which, kind of ironically, even the government workers have to pay so then they demand more money to make up for the extra taxes they now have to pay and it just goes round and round. :wall: Given how inept and corrupt the City Council in Ottawa is, I do hate my local government.

Disturbing new trend in spambotting
The F2P GE's have looked like that for years. It's just that the bots are advertising RWT sites instead of merch clans, and there are more of them now.

A new Email Scam?
Scammers are getting better and better at making phishing emails look real. As Monky said, JaGex will not email you out of the blue like that. If they need to contact a player, they use the internal message system. Besides, if they thought you were selling your account they would simply ban it.

Canada Post on Strike
I don't know about other Canadians, but personally I'm getting pretty fed up with the various divisions of PSAC going on strike/threatening to strike/etc... Government employees get better benefits, pensions, and salaries than most people working in the private sector (especially here in Ottawa), so I don't know why they're constantly fighting for more. Especially when you consider that many functions of the various branches of government can be performed by companies in the private sector more efficiently, and for less cost. I think Canada Post needs to reset it's time machine from 1960 to 2011 and realize that they are no longer the only way for people to get information. They also need to take a long, hard look at the economy in this country and realize how fortunate they are to have jobs at all, let alone government jobs that aren't bilingual (a rarity in itself in Canada) with full benefits.

Return of the wildy/free trade-do you regret your vote?
I'm glad they're not as much of a problem on P2P worlds, but on F2P worlds decent training spots are overrun with bots.

Yeah, Sonic is a pro F2P DG'er. <3: For a nub, that is. Welcome, Jomiliakas. I've found that the new Aritsan's Workshop really works well with Mining as you can deposit iron ores in the resource dungeon in the Dwarven Mine. Fast Mining xp (especially with urns) and free Smithing xp. Prayer can be wicked expensive, but the boneyard can give you free (but not very fast) xp.

Return of the wildy/free trade-do you regret your vote?
Personally, I voted "no" simply because I, like a lot of people here, was playing when they removed free trade and the wilderness and still remember their reasons for doing so. It wasn't to get rid of bots (I'm not exactly sure how the OP's original question degraded into a bot rant) it was because of the massive amount of RWTing that was going on and credit card fraud that Jagex was dealing with. I'm not sure if so much of the staff has changed that they no longer remember why these things were removed, or if they've just gotten better lawyers to deal with the inevitable fallout, but obviously they feel they can handle it better this time around. It would be naive of them to think that free trade would not bring back RWTers and gold farmers in force. I think that they could have brought back the wilderness without the removal of trade restrictions. People could still PK all they liked, but the gold farming and RWTing wouldn't be as rampant (don't kid yourself, it was always there; even during the period of restricted trade). As Ring_Word keeps pointing out, and anyone who tried using the GE on F2P worlds knows, bots were always here and will always be here. The return of free trade simply began increasing their numbers in more popular training spots and making it profitable for gold farmers to advertise in the GE on member's worlds.

Muting During Fights
Agreed. As long as a P-Mod is willing to mute his own clan members who auto then there should not be any problems with him muting the opposing clan members.

Three girls face no charges after pinning down and stripping an 11 year old boy
This, just because a harsher precedence has been set before does not mean you have to make sure that every person should be held to that standard. Except precedents in law mean exactly that. Once you've convicted one person for a crime, everyone after that with similar circumstances needs to be held to the same standard of judgement and punishment.

Vanity Items - RS Prepaid cards and Ornate Katana
I had a disturbingly pessimistic thought when I read that: perhaps JaGex is trying to temp some of the long term subscribers into opting out of an automatic renewal to buy a 90-day game card so that when they go to resubscribe through their credit cards they are no longer locked into the lower rate. Now they can buy that new ivory backscratcher.

Little milestone
Congratulations! It's hardly a 'little' milestone, your total is more than double what mine is.

Vanity Items - RS Prepaid cards and Ornate Katana
If they're just trying to get new people interested in the game, then why not simply offer the katana as a promotional item for anyone who buys members this month? Why limit it just to game cards bought from one store, in one country, and for one time frame? It seems to be an extremely limited, if not outright foolish, was of trying to promote the game.
